      @@ThatAfricanGuy the tensioner is working well, my issue is all 4 oil seals need replaced, so I’m on a quart a week refill schedule.
      The extra oil everywhere is causing the belt to slip now, so I clean it as best as I can before re-installing the belt.
      This car’s on its last legs, I’m looking to replace it in 6 months so my repairs are all just to keep it alive as cheaply as possible at this point.

    Hello sir, great video..
    I have had an incident recently where my serpentine belt came off whilst driving
    I walked back to the place where it came off and found it torn right through the middle
    Prior to this happening, I noticed a high pitch sound when starting the car but it went away soon after
    I am suspecting the tensioner is causing these problems?
    What do you think?

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thank you! The main reason why the belt would be torn is it is simply due. When installing a new one, it is a good idea to test the tensioner and turn the pulleys in front of the engine (except the crankshaft one) to make sure none of them has excess resistance.

    • @stergosmak
      @stergosmak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatAfricanGuy would you suggest replacing the tensioner to resolve this issue? Should I purchase an idler pulley as well just for good measure?

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@stergosmak A new belt + tensioner + idler roller would be the best thing to do for the long run but this is not absolutely necessary. I have never replaced my tensioner or idler roller. I only replaced the belt as precautionary measure as shown in the video. I have a problem in my c6 , i have a vibration noise coming from the top of the windshield or the front part of the headliner (not sure 😵😕), it is quite when the weather is hot at midday🌞, but loud when the weather is cold at evening🥶, if I bang the top of the windshield with my hand I can hear the same noise.

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I am not sure what could be going on. The only loose part in that area I could point to would be the sunglasses compartment. Can you try to open it to see whether it could be the source? It's on top, in the dome light assembly, front side. You push it in to open it up.

    • @osamamaddani

    Mr African Audi DIYer. Gr8 video. Loved your camera work showing the reality of dealing w an Audi in general, but especially what should be a simple job made unnecessarily difficult by cramped quarters in there. I think I have to replace my oldest granddaughter's tensioner as i noticed some wobbling & she just told me that it (the Audi that is) has eaten 3 belts already in less than a yr. Once i get it off it's time to check all pulley surfaces for chips or something. My daughter-in-law's minivan ate them for breakfast... then i got under there & discovered the PS pump pulley had all sorts of chips out of it. Of course those minivans were created by satan's minions in an attempt to get God-fearing mechanics & DIY'ers to curse God (praise the Father that Jesus died & rose again for all our sins... including slips of the tongue during times of slip of the wrenches & loss of skin & the occasional chipped bone, metal sliver in the leg, steel bristles in the eyes scratching the old corneas, & where would we be w/o battery acid & other chemical spills in our eyes, etc, eh?😁) w such an incredibly... no... more like incredulously insane design. When i wrenched professionally I used to pray that an auto designer from 1 of the big 3 would break down by our shop...or even need just an.oil change. I 4get the particular vehicle (80's is when I wrenched) but it was one that no matter how you did it, short of dropping the engine that is, you were going to lose skin on your hand getting that filter off.
    Anyways I just wanted to say I like your real-view & real-time (tho I appreciated the ffwd too...🙃) video for this particular task. When i went to tech college for mechanics I gotta kick out of the videos. They'd have these guts in white lab coats... just the perfect uniform for wrenching, right? L9ng coat, long sleeves.. yet somehow they never got dirty. It wasn't bc they weren't working on real cars w real engines that had never really been driven now, would it?
    😂
    Oh well.
    Take care Mr African Audi DIYer. Keep up the good work.

      @dwright5593 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know some tensioners have a locking mechanism for easier belt replacement. Tried doing mine and couldn't get the belt around it while holding the ratchet clock wise

    • @ThatAfricanGuy
      @ThatAfricanGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dwright5593 Do the power steering pump pulley last like I did in the video. It's the one on your top right when facing the engine. It will work that way. Doing the tensioner last did not work for me either. Remember to use a long ratchet or a long extension to make it easier for you to hold the tensioner while placing the belt around the last pulley, the power steering pump one.
