Like Kai green said about Ronnie Coleman. "You have to be a nasty mother fucker to take 800 lbs to the floor twice." I'll bet he taps into a really dark place for big lifts.
This man has character forged from pain. Yet he still is humble enough to share and try and help those wanting to be great. Thanks for the content and I hope Ms Cute Butt or Ms Great Glutie comes over to help you rack the bar..
this is the first time I hear something very reasonable defending strict pressing\push pressing against the more efficient but less reliable jerk... oberst is great!
Jerking is a skill based movement, while push press and definitely strict press are more strength based movements. To be a good athlete consider getting good at them all!
What is is saying about the stance I understand, Fought for a while and I am a southpaw. Now when I do OHP or clean I have this tendency to bring my right foot forward, and I have a way stronger lunge on that side.
That's what I've been trying to tell people for years is that even though you don't have to stretch as long as you exercise but its half of the workout when it comes to better results and way less injuries. A strong core is also very important to have to reduce injury especially low back pain! I became a personal trainer to help show people it's easier to make pain go away and prevent injuries than it seems to be with stretching and prehab exercises, as I gained valuable knowledge through my own experience of having to rehabilitate a few injuries.
There is a Russian saying: "To press a lot, you must press a lot." In other words, if you want to press some heavy poundage, you have to do a lot of pressing. That's what I'm planning my training around. Various overhead presses, including jerks and snatches. Anything to build my shoulders and upper body strength.
He’s right about strict pressing. The Soviets found the same thing regarding clean and press vs clean and jerk (old days). Training clean and press interfered with clean and jerk
Your honestly pretty. Love the open mind and help you guys combine to help get amature lift ithusiest the motivation they need to keep adding weight. Strong thoughts for you guys!
Hi Oberst, For novice lifters not training in strongman would you still recommend 5x3 75-80% for strict pressing? and also what would you add to that , e.g front raise, lat raise and how many times a week would you suggest doing shoulders? Would you do them twice a week one session focusing on going heavy and another focusing on reps? Good luck for Jan ! Hopefully you smash the WR
jerk is better as a lightweight strongman. Rob kearney is smaller so he can move and stabilize better than the big guys. Guys like big Z shaw or oberst would not, they’d lose their footing or control. Basic physics, using your whole body as a unit is more efficient than select muscle groups.
@@yasinpatel12345 rob trained in Olympic stlye powerlifting, this is where he got the split style and power. He was also a cheerleader. Find him on the Joe Rogan podcast.
When was this recorded? He doesn't hold the American log record anymore, Kearney has it and he used a jerk when he pressed it so his statement that the jerk doesn't work in strongman is clearly wrong.
Oberst is actually a pretty smart guy. I'm not sure if he read a bunch of books through the years or just naturally intelligent, but he has an incredible command over the english language. Aditionally he is fuking big and strong :)
A lot of great information yet does this work only for enhanced lifters who recover much better and faster oppose-to naturals? What works well for an enhanced person will not work so well for a natural is s fact so take it with caution.
Tejano37 Dave Tate basically calls bullshit on working out differently if you are natty or not. There is no special way to work out if you are on gear or are natty, the same concepts apply
Never take advice from and steroid lifter. Steroids change literally everything. I've been around long enough to see the whole game. Dude's on Juice can lift ANY WAY they want, and it makes them big and strong. It's just the juice doing the work. If you lift naturally you'll become over trained, the weights will be too high or you won't get enough work because you'll be too busy recovering from their insane workouts. If you're natural and you want to be strong you need to basically do a really heavy day once every 3 weeks or so. If you do it sooner than that you'll ultimately have a physical break down in some area like getting injured or lose strength from your inability to recover. All the other days you workout need to be 70% type work where you do a bunch of reps and sets and put in the work. If you do too high of a % like a juicer, you'll never recover in time.
Gigantic amount of volume will be your downfall if you're a natural. Work hard, intense, yes, but by the time youve done so much volume that you have to take full plates off, you've already overtrained. Enhanced you can do whatever floats your boat, you'll recover more easy from anything
Steroids basically just speed up your muscle repair which in turn speeds up growth. In my opinion (like others have stated) as a natty you need more rest so your muscles can repair otherwise you'll constantly be getting injuries. Thats why i dont believe a natty and enhanced should have the same routine.
Mr Oburst what happened to your arm? I am seriously concerned. This better not fuck with your performance and if it does then please make sure to take your time to before competing. Huge vegan fan here, wish you all the best sir.
Not really. At the end of the day. You do what you're most comfortable. Even Ed coan said it. If something works, weights moving and you aren't hurting yourself. Then that's your stance/movement. Don't change a thing
You don't have control of the competition and the way things go---- unless you're HalfThor and just get to do it when you want, how you want and where you prefer and somehow That's a world record. Next year's WSM will be a Zoom Meeting where all thr guys compete from home now right? I mean..... If that's the way records are going to work

ok let me write it down
1st step: get titanium biceps
Log press is shoulders and triceps not biceps
YOIZY biceps are still important stabilizers in any pressing movement
I feel like there is legit anger in this man, beneath his happy go lucky outer shell.

Robert as a fellow 6ft 7 beast! You are my favourite current strong man

The saying means you must press frequently. As in many times per week you should be doing some sort of overhead work
Oberst with the world record for looking homeless 🤣🤣
Don't move your feet, it's a waste of time and energy. But don't forget to move your feet, it's efficient and it gives you more drive. Lol.

Does the jerk sometimes not work for Rob Kearney? Seems to have a pretty high success rate.
