I don’t want to be ‘that guy’ who picks there favorite Strongman based on who won WSM and I never heard of Martins before WSM 2019 but...he is pretty great.
Seeing Brian shaw is terrifying when you first see him lol, it's like...."well, that thing cannot be killed by conventional weapons....nor fire!" But in reality he is a sweetheart and what most don't know is he is America's nuke launcher on the side, true story lol
It's always interesting to look back on your youth and things your parents did that you thought were stupid. Seen through the eyes of experience there was almost always a reason, and Martins, you have seen the fruits of your dad's vision and lessons and you took them and ran with them to become what you are today.
Reminds ma a little bit of Magnus. He had also not the most impressive physique, was not the heaviest, not the tallest, not the strongest. But he was the smartest. He figured out ways to win events nobody even took into consideration. Similar to Martins story with the way he handled the rain issues during the stones event. That led him to win 4 WSM titles. Martins has 1 so far and he seems to be as smart as Magnus was, so we`ll see...
Also, I've found in powerlifting and older strength athletes, there is a true generous spirit and they are so happy to share their experience, knowledge and training. If you are on the East Coast, every fall there is a dinner run to honor strength athletes across many disciplines run by the AOBS (Association of Olde-time Barbell and Strongman) where you can meet up with people like Odd (met him there) and talk and share stories.
Martin Licis is a kind and compassionate man with a strong and disciplined and enduring character, and very relatable and humble, if I wanna follow any strongman it's definitely him and Eddie Hall. Let's hope he never stops making this great videos.

Crazy he's been accomplishing his goals. WSM 2019 & Arnold Santa Monica. He barely beat Shaw because he was sick. Now just the Arnold Classic in Ohio which I believe he will win with Hafthor stepping out. Unless Shaw comes back strong......
Hey Martin thanks for sharing this amazing story with us, really appreciate it as a fan.... You know what MY problem is? Can't stop training. Not for even 2 hours. Very hungry all the time. Doing one arm pull ups, one arm push ups, sandbag strict presses, all day long, every single day... Just don't feel like taking days off 😣😣😣😣😣😣 It has become a serious addiction, the desire to grind. Been a year and a half, I only strict press 110kilo sandbag for one rep..... Wish I could talk my dumbass into taking off days so that my recovery was better and I could make better gains but.... I guess I have to start some form of competition first. That will instill the need for fastest gains in me, perhaps allowing me to take recovery more seriously.
After watching like 3 of these vids, Martins is definitely my favorite strongman competitor now. Awesome stories.

He's an anti-anxiogenic. Awesome personality, superb and methodical dedication, different from the thirst to go all out all the time, worked wonders.

I got to watch him win WSM 2019 in my hometown , Florida. The camera does no justice to how gigantic some of these guys are.
