I really enjoyed playing Ryu because i can practice my patience and fundamental since Ryu doesn't have much tools to open up the opponent or to skip neutral. He also hit a like a truck which always pretty satisfied every time i hit with standing fierce combo into level 3. Not long ago i hit Master rank with him but now i play Kim while waiting for my boy Ed. Anyway, another good overview by Sajam 👍
I really appreciate you throwing in that Luke match for one of the examples. It's nice knowing even good players get annoyed by people with belligerent playstyles.
that luke is an example of someone who is really good at somethings and really bad at other things. He got a lot of perfect parry punishes and mixed between skip neutral offensive options pretty well. In the end he almost won
Ryu was the third character I ranked up to masters I really loved the gameplay, he has struggles and as a normal player I couldn't really learn his better combos, punishes or strategies, but I still managed to do a good job with him, I really liked him in this game

One thing to keep in mind. The quality of players in Diamond is a lot less strong right now than what they were closer to launch. Unless they play multiple character, the better players have all funneled into Master and stay there. The system is essentially designed to funnel people to Master if they are willing to put in the time to grind LP. But still a very small percentage of the playerbase is actually Master.
i'm also plat with 4 chars and I've noticed a distinct difference since launch in plat. Plat is like 50/50 between "I don't understand the game but I have these one or two strategies that beat most people at my rank" and thoughtful players learning/ranking up a new char @@eebbaa5560
I encounter so many master Smurfs in Diamond, I have to disagree. I’m stuck at 23000-24000 with about 500 wins and it seems impossible to get to master at this point.
Yeah I'm not sure that's true. It might be true, but considering every time you change characters it puts you back into Diamond, I'd bet a large percentage of the playerbase are actually players who have been playing for a while and are trying other characters out. If anything the Diamond grind might be less consistent than it was before but there's still plenty of challenge in there.
Super beginner question because I don't really understand how good players do inputs and I'm brand new to SF: When you do the denjin powerup in the video, Ryu doesn't move, he just powers up. When I do it, you can distinctly see Ryu crouch twice when I'm doing the inputs. I'm in training room pressing down down punch as fast as I can and he still crouches. Can you explain how to get inputs to be smoother/faster? Or is there some sort of mechanic to it? I hope this makes sense.
Just practice, man, keep doing the input, and you'll eventually find the timing. Keep going after that, and you'll become consistent at it. It's a normal part of the learning curve, and you aren't doing anything wrong.
He's doing the denjin I put during the fireball attack animation so that it comes out right away. Sajam has a couple videos on buffering you could watch and it works similar to this.
Justin could probably get to Masters with one button. I don't think using that as an example of not having to learn a bunch of stuff makes it applicable to the vast majority of people. He still has to learn what's what so he can do that successfully
Almost willing to bet money when they eventually release an arcade edition/super sf6 and give everyone something new ryu will get a counter of some sort. I'm sure many fans would be happy if he got like Gouken's rdp + p counter from sf4, and it's pretty much writing on the wall with his new updated 'growing into the master' look in sf6.
Ryu main here. Can't ever land a Cr LP Standin LP LK Donkey Kick, tried about 100 times in training. I see Sajam doing it pretty easily I don't really get what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for advice dear FGC
