I wanted to say a huge thank you for creating this amazing video about my journey with C. Viper at EVO 2011. I'm truly honored you took the time to highlight my story in this video . Thanks once again and wish you all the best!
I wanted to be good at Viper because shes so cool but her execution is extremely hard. That dp motion just for a fake out is no joke but is literally required to make her viable.
Yeah, execution-wise Viper is absolutely brutal despite only having 3 specials. Her entire game plan depends on you being able to do frame perfect feints every time. No matter how good you are in practice, you're most likely to drop it in an actual match when it matters most.
I count that as a positive 100%. Especially today when most characters you'll ever see are in the opposite direction of literally not requiring advanced execution at all or not even having an additional skill ceiling regarding mechnical skill.
I knew the MOMENT I clicked this it was gonna be Latif. He visited my city arcade once in the later 2000s and mopped the god damn floor with me in SF4 and also with his Eddie in Accent Core.
I was just about to say the same thing. Those years of EVO were straight up legendary. I used to watch that with my homies like the Superbowl. I have no idea what its like nowadays at EVO but I don't think it'll ever compare to that.
Aww man, I remember the SF4 days well..The game had such nice mechanics to individualize your playstyle. Two Ryu players could play as differently as night and day. And Latif was always a blast to watch..
Oh yeah, Street Fighter 4 revival days and that era's protagonists, I feel nostalgic but grateful at the same time: Mike Ross, F.Champ, PR Balrog, Poongko, Mago, Sako, Marn, Ricky Ortiz, Gamerbee, and the so many familiar faces. Latif is a beast.
@bartdude82 even though I don't expect her back in SF6, I would love to see it. Even if her kit doesn't mesh well with SF6 mechanics, idc. I'd rather have her slightly changed/watered down than not have her at all. Seems like they hate all the SF4 newcomers. I miss El Fuerte, Rufus and Hakan too
I knew its gonna be Latif before i even clicked on the video. Back then i played ibuki (also very technical), but i tried some viper - and people just don't even understand the level of player you need to be just to crawl with that character. I played against him in GG and, obviously i got destroyed, but felt like i achieved my dreams of playing against a pro. It was just a Tuesday for him, but it was the most important day of my life.
This is the first character I tried to learn when I was 13. And seeing pros like Latif cancelling shit made me realize how special fgc is. The skill gap is amazing. Thank you sf4
This guy played ggxx. That game was filled with FRC point's which were 2 or 3 or sometimes 1 frame windows to cancel a special for less meter. Of course he is going to do good with the character that does the same stuff
I am so proud to say that I was around in that era to witness Latif’s C.Viper greatness. I gotta say, EVO and the FGC was such a vibe back in those days. Nothing like how it is today and I miss every second of it ✊🏽
I was watching LIVE when Latif Daigo'd Daigo..That Evo had me screaming and jumping at my computer. Upset city it was, All of Poonko, Latif beasting out of nowhere, last hope for America..Daigo getting beat after going to the dark side.. Seriously the Golden Age. LATIF!! You are a literal inspiration brotha! An Internet Legend was truly born that day
The Moment i saw C.Viper on the thumbnail i knew this video would be a about Latif, it's been a while since we've heard from him, what a joyride this video is.
Solid topic for this video. I'm so glad it was about Latif. His viper was so amazing, I bought the Broken Tier Latif shirt they made with the red foil that year. There were a couple points in the video where you say he made a good read or reaction jump back punish. But I'm wondering if it was actually a safe jump setup with OS superjump back. Every time it was forward throw, dash, dash, jump forward, and I think the OS was if they block the jump he lands, but if nothing connects he super jumps. He'd still need to read the direction but those seemed like educated guesses and matchup knowledge at that point. After seeing the setup a few times throughout the video I'm 90% sure it was OS. Either way, still godlike plays, and a great video as is.
@@willo90liI'm from KSA, tekken is super popular here, sf is a lil bit popular and guilty gear is niche even then there's still good players in our scenes
I guess when you already have the frame-specific False Roman Cancel timings from GGXX into your muscle memory, it's a lot easier to master Viper's feints than coming purely from an SF background. Plus the input would feel similar as well.
I only knew of Latif from Strive so this was a cool video. Had no idea some of these players have been playing for so long. Some of them still look so young.
For me Latif will always synonymous with C. Viper. That was a great tournament, and a great era for Street Fighter. That tournament was absolutely stacked.
I'm not too familiar with this game, so please let me know. as explained on 3:08 , C viper can cancel her super jump-jumpsquat into an ultra move, for which she has only 3 frames, however, I read online that her grounded ultra move requires a double quarter circle forwards. That means the console needs to register a down, downforward, forward, down, downforward, then forward input, which in theory should mean you need at least 6 frames right (or 4 if the downforwards don't count)? Yes, obviously it is super hard to do, but the way it was explained it seems physically impossible to do in that little time, even by a TAS.
You end up buffering the input. So while the Crouching Heavy punch is coming out and recovering, you do the double quarter circle forward, you then end the last qcf into up forward to super jump. During those 3 frames you can press all 3 punches to get ultra. So the timing comes from when you end in upforward and press the 3 punches within the 3 frames
@@Un1234l The whole character really, but this specific interaction of pulling her full screen into that ridiculously long Crouching Heavy (I assume it's a Heavy Kick) that was at least 1.75, maybe 1.8 character models away for a full ass combo.

Loved watching anyone play her well, and had fun playing her though never put in the lab work to really unlock her fully. Still kinda hoping she pops up in SF6 but slim chance cause I have no idea if anyone on that team can do her justice without completely breaking SF6 apart. Nice trip down memory lane though.

Standing medium kick can counter heavy pokes and lots of jump ins if timed correctly. Back and heavy kick is an amazing anti air. Ex seismo cancel gives you enough invincibility to make crossups wiff if you have the timing. Even standing heavy punch is a great anti air depending on the character and you can also jump cancel it to bait people into doing ultra's. I think I only learnt all of her uses because I played her so much and just tried to be risky and discovered how amazing her normals are.
3:13 in smash they call that jump squat, and in melee bowser had the worst jump squat cause he took forever to get off the ground. in ultimate everyone has the same jump squat time
I owe Latif for giving me the blueprint to playing viper successfully. She was so confusing for me to pick her up because she was very unorthodox compared to the other cast.
I really love this play style. I'm more of a defense, movement, poking type of player. For me combos are the least important. I like to bait my opponents and whiff punish. Baiken and A.B.A are favorites of mine because they're more defensive oriented.
He’s doing great. He flew back to his country and became a bodybuilder. Looks completely different lol. I think he also flew to evo recently (can’t remember if it was ‘23 or ‘24) and competed.
