    The “you don’t have to be right” clause is actually really important, you learn a lot more from making a bad plan and losing than you do from not planning at all.

      Another important thing is determining if what you did was a bad decision or if it just didn't work out for some reason or another: doing the wrong timing for a meaty, throwing too early in a blockstring so it doesn't connect, etc. There's good ideas there, just need to iron out the specifics.

    Even though I don't tend to get much out of these sorts of videos myself, they do actually help a lot because I can send them to friends. This is what I really needed. There are plenty of creators who make content on how to play neutral but never actually break down the decision making or thought process that goes into implementing it into your game plan. And in such a time efficient manner.A video dedicated to controlling the airspace (mainly on how to set up jump ins) would be amazing

    • @axis8396
      @axis8396 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A concept I like is the shoto gameplan since in that mid-ish range you can represent all options: walk forward poke which loses to counter pokes, jumps which lose to anti-airs, and fireballs that lose to jumps. If you're full screen then jumping a fireball isn't a threat, if you're too close you're unlikely to just do a fireball since it won't be safe. So essentially you're doing the same thing for your character: my long range option covers a dash or forward movement, I'm at a good range to anti-air, and I can also poke/counterpoke or walk forward if you walk back. Of course there's matchup nuances like you might be inclined to jump at a charge character if they're walking since they won't have enough time to charge, or you might be more focused on poking/counterpoking rushdown characters since they want to initiate most of the time but it really depends on your specific tools vs theirs

Coming from Tekken, there are a lot of things like I need to NOT do in SF like jumping in too much because I just feel trapped in corner pressure situations unlike in Tekken where I can just as easily SS.

  • @like_ross9502
    @like_ross9502 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The point about asking whether you're the one who's supposed to engage or not is very important. Sometimes it's a character thing, like most characters having to approach Guile and JP, but other times it's a player thing. Like X player might have poor decision making when put under pressure, so even if you're playing Guile it might be best to go after them.
    Most importantly, I think it's an important point because for beginners they really struggle to adapt/know what to change about their play when they are getting beaten. If you're cognizant of the decison you originally made to either engage or not, it would likely be the first thing you change when losing. Which is a good step in the right direction.
    Obviously, the higher level you get, the more in depth and fast paced the adaptations become. It's what makes fighting games fun and I feel like it's probably the most overlooked aspect of teaching beginners.

    I’m still an fgc infant making my way through low plat but I’m a decade long StarCraft player and this video really speaks to me.
    The striking similarity between StarCraft and Street fighter is that when you boil it down the gameplan really is incredibly simple. You make workers, you expand, you make units and you keep your resources low. That’s it. That’s all you need to react diamond/low masters. And yeah you learn how to scout and react to cheese along the way, but you can get so far with just the fundamentals and people always try to over complicate.
    I’m gonna head back onto Ryu ranked and try the right spot to hit HP over and over.

      A decent first layer of defense against throw loops is delay teching. That protects you against both meaty strikes and meaty throw.
      Demonstrate to your opponent that you're capable of this, and they'll have to change up their pressure on your wakeup, and you'll have a lot more room to breathe. They might adjust by attempting to shimmy you, but you can adjust in turn by blocking, parrying, or just jumping out, etc.

    While I agree that forming a basic gameplan is one of the most helpful things a beginner can do, I think framing matchups as an "attacker" and "defender" might be harmful to beginners. Or at least, it was harmful to me. Not so much if they are the defender, but a beginner player thinking they are supposed to be the attacker. I know that when I was a beginner, being the attacker meant getting to the zoner by any means necessary. Can't get close on the ground? Jump. Have them near the corner? Get close and hit them...and then get jumped over and chase them to the other side.
    It's not that the advice is wrong, I just think beginner players will have some have false connotations with the term "attacker."

      I think check your basic tools is true to every game to make some plan. Walking near danger zone to be ready to wiff punish is basic concept to almost all fighting games. But corner pressure in Strive(and every GG game in series) is different from SF. GG is more dynamic, it's hard to not let opponent fly away if you don't really stand close of course and pressure him with your attacks. Burst also exist. SF6 have very strict and unsafe jumps, so it's more predictable and punishable
