The Derp Knight as a kid, that scene honestly didn't scared me at all. I just thought it was just wierd and i understood why this was happening because dumbo and timothy mouse were drunk. So yea, i don't really find that part scary at all. But i wonder how that scene will go in the live action remake...... With Tim Burton as the director for the movie, obviously that scene will really get creepy and dark.
At that scene I didn't have a particular reaction...I was like "Okay,Dumbo drank something and is now dreaming of pink elephants..Okay then." I just went with the flow xD
Pinnochio seems to be more of a straight up horror movie than a disney movie if you really think about it. So many horrible people and they all get away with what they are doing and keep doing it long after the movie ends. As a kid that donkey transformation really scared me, the whale never did since that was tame in comparison. As a kid I didnt care about Pinnochio becomeing a real boy, I only kept thinking about the kids left behind. I'm sure there is supposed to be some moral lesson in there, but making mistakes is part of growing up. The punishment seems far too extreme. I'd not let kids watch it untill they are at least 10 or such.
The reason Disney couldn't let Ichabod escape in the cartoon was because they wanted to stick to the original story (I know because I have read it) and I personally think that Disney would get a lot of shit if they changed the ending of such an iconic story just to please the masses who can't handle the tiniest bit of violence (or in this case, hidden violence). And this isn't an ending that is just made to end the story, it has a lot of symbolic foreshadowing and is supposed to awaken the reader's imagination about what truly happened to Ichabod.
dunno, Disney made Hunchback get a happy ending.. of all stories Hunchback is one that should never, ever have a happy ending - granted Disney's version may as well be an entirely different story, considering how much they altered it.

10 The Headless Horseman always gives me a jump scare 9 I HATE this sequence! 8 What were they thinking!?🤨 I hated those wheelers! Demented freaks! 7 Donald goes crazy! Nothing new. 6 The Horned King. Scariest of all the Disney villains. Maleficent’s the scariest of all Disney villainesses. 5 Again, What were they thinking!? Lampwick’s transformation is horrifying. Not to mention who or WHAT is the Coachman?😨
Me too. I just took it all for a crazy dream and enjoyed the insanity and bright colors. I didn't even realize it was "scary" until I went on the internet and everyone started telling me so.
Same here. I always enjoyed that bit - it never scared me. And then when it went all crazy at the end, the elephants exploded into clouds, reality kicks in, and I was always like, "Aww, back to the plot!"
I honestly LOVE this video (and the Disney villains list). I think it helps me see what Animat thinks is the scariest moments in Disney history, film or even a cartoon or ride in general! I am happy to say that I am a fan of this channel and I love to say that you, Animat are the best TH-camr in my opinion :)
Animation has always creeped me out more than live action horror. Something about the coloring and style of frame rate and animation, escecially when it came to faces; my greatest fear, it gives an uncanny and nightmarish feel to it. And I love every minute of it lol. no lie..
Lampwick screaming, "Mommmaaaaa!" before he lost his power to talk was always the worst part for me. At his last moment he was repentant but it was too late.
I did too. I couldn't help but think, man that is some fucked up shit right there, but in reality, I think it was just a moment that was too funny to look over. It also made me hate the giant more.
The worst part about pleasure island was they put it in The Main Street Electrical Parade in Disneyland/world. Complete with the donkey kids giving you flashbacks to the horror while you're supposed to be having a good time. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!!!!
"And heaven forbid, I don't want to know what happened to the talking ones!" I don't either, believe me, but I think I know what happens to one of them.... *Cough cough Donkey from Shrek cough cough*
I'm rather surprised no one's ever done the Scariest Non-Disney Moments! Here's my list: An American Tail - The Giant Mouse of Minsk All Dogs Go To Heaven - The Hell Scene Anastasia - Rasputin Fern Gully - Hexxus Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland - the whole movie pretty much The Pagemaster - Mr Hyde In my opinion, I find those much scarier than some of the scary Disney scenes. Did any of you found those moments scary too?
After rereading the comment by Paul Jones, I'd like to nominate some more scary Disney moments. Not that the non-Disney ones aren't terrifying, because they are. But Disney also has some far more terrifying moments than the ones listed in the video. Here's the short list: -The scene in The Princess and the Frog where Dr. Facilier is dragged into his grave and presumably to hell -Frollo's "Hellfire" sequence (actually, Frollo himself is pretty darn creepy) -The Toy Story 3 incinerator scene (yes, I know it's Pixar, but I'm not picky) -Zira's "My Lullaby" -The asylum director in Beauty and the Beast -Snow White: the queen's transformation -The Little Mermaid: Ursula's polyp garden Seriously, why in heck did our parents let us watch this stuff?
Very nice list! I would put all of those on a countdown. A couple of others I might put down: Aladdin: scenes of Jafar hypnotizing Sultan. That creeped me out big time as a kid. Fantasia 2000: The Firebird sequence. Similar to Night on Bald Mountain it was frightening as well as beautiful. Also under scary vilains from lesser known movies, I'd put Mc Leach from Rescuers Down Under. Seriously the guy traps animals kills Golden Eagles and their eggs and tried to throw a boy in a crocodile river. I hated him.
My favorite villain song is there :D my lulluby! But the lyrics are very brutal for a Disney movie. "The sound of Simbas dying gasp! His daughter squealing in my grasp!" Not to mention the graphics
***** Right? I didn't see the movie until my late teens, and that song gave me the absolute creeps. I was like, "Wait. One. Minute. People expose five-year-olds to this????"
With the elephants, I remember as a kid not even getting it. The faces creeped me out, and then all this random stuff happened. *Even as a kid* I did not get it.
I was unfazed by Jurassic Park, Aliens, and Ghostbusters growing up, but these parts of Disney movies scared me as a kid. God that head sequence in return to oz...had nightmares about it for a month.
In the book, the donkeys pulling the coachman's carriage are talking ones, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the fate of the ones who still could talk in the movie... (Or maybe the guy just kept them in the island until they couldn't talk anymore). BTW, in the book, one of the said donkeys tries to warn Pinocchio to not come with the boys... The Coachman bites his ear, tearing off a piece, to keep him quiet.
10:50 "HURRY HURRY HURRY! GET YOUR FREE HOOKER HERE! ABSOLUTELY FREE! HAVE THE NIGHT OF YOUR LIFE! THIS AIN"T CALLED PLEASURE ISLAND FOR NOTHING YA KNOW! HURRY HURRY HURRY!" BEST PART XD
Y'know, Dumbo didn't really "drink" the alcohol... he kind of "snorted" it. Trunks are supposed to be noses so.. an elephant can't really drink out of his nose lol.
9:41 - 9:52 Hearing John Hurt’s voice is very bittersweet as one of his best roles and it really sucks that he died in 2017. R.I.P Oxley (Indiana Jones 4)
I got to say, the song you chose, "Secret of Survival," is the best transition song for a Top 10 Scariest Disney Moments Video. The reason I believe is that it sounds like the exact opposite of the Disney song, "It's A Small World After All." While "It's a Small World" is a very upbeat song that tells you that are loved in this world, no matter what, "Secret of Survival is a very dark song that tells you that once you make a step in this world, you're screwed. Both songs also come from a piece of Disney media, "It's A Small World" coming from the ride of the same name and "Secret of Survival" coming from the 1996 film, The Wind in the Willows, which distributed was distributed by Walt Disney Pictures in the United States.
Animat, you have great informative videos with some good comedy and surprises, but only 25 thousand+ subscribers? MOST UNDERRATED TH-cam CHANNEL EVER!!!
Nope, you are not the only one. I always thought the pink elephants scene was a warning against drinking. Of course Pinocchio had a similar message with the Pleasure Island donkeys.
Pretty much yeah. I mean look at what happens to someone who excessively drinks, smokes, fights, gambles, does drugs etc. They don't turn into a donkey so much, but they are considered to be well... a jackass! Actually, the real lesson in Pinocchio is that nothing comes without a price. The bad boys think they will get away with their bad behavior without any punishment or retribution; becoming donkeys is the price they pay for their naughtiness.
With the one where you talk about The Rescuers and its sequel, I'll have to admit that the saying, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend!" feels appropriate .
Yeah...as donkey's in salt mines where they will die a very slow death. Never mind the subtext of never being "boys" again after being to "pleasure island". The whole thing is just messed up on so many levels.
If there’s ever an update for this video, I wonder if he’d visit some other Disney owned IPs, like Indiana Jones. Those films have some intense moments, ESPECIALLY Temple of Doom. That entire 2nd act is the darkest in the entire series
I'm a recent subscriber, but I absolutely love your channel. You're little interjections and humor mixed with information is awesome. Plus, you giving your personal bias without overall ruining your point in the video is something so simple that not a lot of TH-camrs realize. Great job, dude👍🏻
I think with the "sequel" to the OZ movie, it was actually suppose to be a deconstruction of Wonderland instead. Somewhere in Disney was there a miss communication.
I loved and still love the Pink Elephant scene, it's just so creative and freaky that it ibecomes very exciting and fun to watch. I can see why other people wouldn't like it or find it too scary, though, especially coming out of Dumbo, one of the more cutesy and child friendly Disney classics.
I stumbled onto this channel from a nostalgia critic video and I'm now binge watching all your videos. ( in a completely non creepy way :) ) and yeah Pinoccio is a pretty scary film all round anyways. The original story is even more horrific. The Disney one is the tame version.
When I was a kid I always loved the pink elephant scene because I thought the song was super catchy XD Also I am normally pretty good at stomaching uncanny and unsettling visuals, I actually get a kind of thrill out of them
I'm pretty sure I suppressed it, because I definitely saw the movie as a kid, but my earliest memory of the Pink Elephants is when I watched the scene on TH-cam in middle school.
Numbers 20 to 15 in AniMat’s Top 10 Scariest Disney Moments 20. The Watcher in the Woods 19. Ghost Girl (???) 18. The Death of Bambi’s Mother (Bambi) 17. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 16. Wolves Attack Belle (Beauty and the Beast) 15. The Scary Forest (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
Oh my god I laughed so hard at unleashing Hungry Donald on the cast of HSM and the coachman's four year old boy slaves!!! I always got an uncomfortable feeling when watching Pinocchio, especially that scene but I never really realized why! Bwahahahaa!! That's actually horrible. He knows it, they know it, I know it, and you definatly knew it! x'DDD
B Jones I had this bizarre dream that someone wanted to cut my toe, and I refused to and they told me I was stubborn and being a jackass. I laughed at them, drunk something, laughed again and then HEE HAW came out of my mouth. Then I heard a girl screaming Oww my toe then some man yelling for his mama followed by braying. Looked in the mirror noticed I had ears and a tail and ran for my life. I realized that girls were getting their toes cut off and all of the stubborn boys refusing to have toes cut off or partied too much got turned into donkeys!!! Transformed myself back and woke up after that horrible nightmare. It was a mix of Into The Woods and Pinocchio!!
I would like to mention that in the Disney book version of The Legend of Sleepy Hallow...the last page literally shows Ichabod Crane as a ghost looking over the town...further proving that he was killed by the Headless Horseman!
Plus I never understood why Dorothy is in a asylum / mental hospital QUESTION : why is Dorothy insane AWNSER : cause why not it's a scary movie for little kids trauma ( which will probably drive your kids insane anyway )
As a kid when I saw Pinnocio for the first time, yeah the donkey scene was scary, but I was also surprised that a kids cartoon had the word "jack ass" in it. That's the first cartoon I've ever seen with any type of swearing in it. And I think I was like 4 or 5 at that time too.
Look, I don't know what kind of alcohol you've been drinking lately, but I think that that scene would be warranted by A DIFFERENT SUBSTANCE ENTIRELY. Can you say LSD?
I haven't seen Pinokio since I was a kid and I this is the first time I've realized that the donky kids are never saved or turned back into humans. OMFG!
Anyone think Matt should do an update of this list?
me🙋🙋✋✋

Vilmundur Gunnarsson definitely. So mufasas here.
Yeah for every time they make a live action remake

When I saw this I was so confused and since I was Muslim and have awesome parents I never really heard of alcohol until I was 12 lol
Seeing your profile picture made me realize animat sounds like Steve 😂
I was probably the only child who was clapping along to the Pink Elephants like the disturbed child I was... And still am.
I loved the pink elephants! I was also a disturbed child.
yay! disturbed child high five!
At that scene I didn't have a particular reaction...I was like "Okay,Dumbo drank something and is now dreaming of pink elephants..Okay then." I just went with the flow xD

i used to fast forward the whole film just to get to that scene. i think i ended up breaking the video, and i bought a new one.

Nah the author for the original story HATED kids
Oh yeah the coachman i hated the guy hes my only hated disney character
I really felt sorry for those poor boys when I 1st watched the movie and still do to this day
I used to be terrified of drinking cause my parents told me I would turn into a donkey o_o

I'm rather surprised no one's ever done the Scariest Non-Disney Moments! Here's my list:
An American Tail - The Giant Mouse of Minsk
All Dogs Go To Heaven - The Hell Scene
Anastasia - Rasputin
Fern Gully - Hexxus
Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland - the whole movie pretty much
The Pagemaster - Mr Hyde
In my opinion, I find those much scarier than some of the scary Disney scenes. Did any of you found those moments scary too?
Yes, very much in fact.
lol theres a BUNCH of those videos on that topic bro :)
+Paul Jones
You forgot, The Secret of NIMH, most of the movie scared me.
Paul Jones Oh, someone mentioned Hexxus. :D

I saw Return To Oz...and I actually enjoyed it but that's my own opinoin
It was awesome

Hearing John Hurt’s voice is very bittersweet as one of his best roles and it really sucks that he died in 2017. R.I.P Oxley (Indiana Jones 4)
The only thing that disney's movies lost is just one
COMMON SENSE
Is it wrong that I actually loved the pink elephants scene in Dumbo as a little kid?
Same I'd rewind it
I liked it too you're not alone... And it was just trippy
Why am I starting to think that I was the only one who was terrorfied by it...
I never even thought it was that scary. The expressions of the elephants were too goofy for me to be creeped out.
8:36 I want to argue with you but I really, really, REALLY hate High school musical.
*dont worry, Donald will make them disappear*
I agree as well
Some of us are HSM fans
I just discovered this channel this morning, and I love it! Thank you so much for this list!
Letting Donald kill the characters from High School Musical was hilarious and wise.
How fitting, I got a Disney cruise ad for this video.
they're in alot of his disney stuff, acually almost all of his disney stuff.
This is for everyone on the comment section.Hardly anyone is scard of any of these moments.
What are the odds?
The unseen version of the cauldron-born army scene almost gave the film an M rating.
Animat, you have great informative videos with some good comedy and surprises, but only 25 thousand+ subscribers? MOST UNDERRATED TH-cam CHANNEL EVER!!!
Did we ever figure out why this has so many dislikes? I don't get it either D: this video is nice.
Liezl Bohnen
a runied childhood that why
There is a part in bambi, where his mom died? It scared me and made me sad when I was a kid.
it made me cry
What about the Lion King? ;-;
That was sad too
This is the scariest moments of Disney, not the saddest.
Kiera Paul
Also traumatizing.
am I the only one who thinks the elephants parade is a metaphor for the bad effects of drinking?
Nope, you are not the only one. I always thought the pink elephants scene was a warning against drinking.
Of course Pinocchio had a similar message with the Pleasure Island donkeys.
*****
What the heck is the lesson in Pinocchio? Don't do bad things or bad things will happen to you?
I loved Return to Oz as a kid. Sure it scared the crap out of me but I was still obsessed with it.
The coachmen: They'll never come back...👿
Me: Oh no! 😱
The coachmen: As boys!
Me: Oh nvm their gonna live. 😏
"They won't come back as boys" actually sounds worse if you really think about it. o_O
Yeah...as donkey's in salt mines where they will die a very slow death.
Never mind the subtext of never being "boys" again after being to "pleasure island". The whole thing is just messed up on so many levels.

To be honest, immediate death sounds better than the slow one they'll get from labor.
I come back to this video every once in a while because it’s done so well
Oh Jesus I remember this so differently
The editing in this countdown is nothing short of stellar. I keep coming back to this video series years later.
These f-ing lists are my c h i l d h o o d. Love ya, man.
I remember being scared the living shit out of me when the coachman grins. One of the first scary expeciences from Disney.
When the last scene with a wheeler appeared JUST after that an ad about food popped up
I stumbled onto this channel from a nostalgia critic video and I'm now binge watching all your videos. ( in a completely non creepy way :) ) and yeah Pinoccio is a pretty scary film all round anyways. The original story is even more horrific. The Disney one is the tame version.
When I was a kid I always loved the pink elephant scene because I thought the song was super catchy XD
Also I am normally pretty good at stomaching uncanny and unsettling visuals, I actually get a kind of thrill out of them
I cried and had nightmares when I saw the pink elephants when I was little. XD
I was honestly more confused and thought 'whatever, crap happens'
+GraceDoesEverything me too! I remember that I couldnt see dumbo without crying in that part😂
I'm pretty sure I suppressed it, because I definitely saw the movie as a kid, but my earliest memory of the Pink Elephants is when I watched the scene on TH-cam in middle school.
I remember I bought a dumbo DVD when I saw that scene I was like nope nope nope nope and never watched it again
Numbers 20 to 15 in AniMat’s Top 10 Scariest Disney Moments
20. The Watcher in the Woods
19. Ghost Girl (???)
18. The Death of Bambi’s Mother (Bambi)
17. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
16. Wolves Attack Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
15. The Scary Forest (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
I absolutely LOVE the Black Cauldron! It is just amazing!
Omg if you gave me your nightmare I will find you and unleash an angry Donald upon your household..
Has it really been nearly seven years since this video was uploaded?
I would like to mention that in the Disney book version of The Legend of Sleepy Hallow...the last page literally shows Ichabod Crane as a ghost looking over the town...further proving that he was killed by the Headless Horseman!
Yikes
I remeber watching this video and laughing my ass off as a kid, coming back to watch it again and its still a great video
"WOW DUDE BACK UP YOU WEREN'T MADE FOR CLOSE UPS!!" *dies of laughter*
The Black Cauldron is one of my favorite childhood movies. Eilonwy never got the credit she deserved as a Disney princess ;;
I remember watching this when I was younger :) still holds up!
My mans been wearing the same outfit for almost 10 years now.
Return to Oz, in my opinion, was truer to the original stories. The original Wonderful World of Oz series was very dark.
god I need to watch some more Disney movies, I haven't seen half or more of these scenes. anyways what's the song that plays?
Secret of Survival from Wind in the Willows
I love the part were Donald attacks high school musical lol
Next time you make one like this can you add clayton's death from Tarzan?
when i enter the room:nothing when the horned king enters:EXPLOSIONS,FIRE,AND GAS EVERYWHERE
I just love your voice and idk why xD
Plus I never understood why Dorothy is in a asylum / mental hospital
QUESTION : why is Dorothy insane
AWNSER : cause why not it's a scary movie for little kids trauma ( which will probably drive your kids insane anyway )
Five years this has been around and it still ages well.
Disney bought Star Wars. Mickey, come to the dark side.
"That is the most PEDO thing that I've ever heard in my entire life. He knows it, they know it, I know it, and YOU know it." 😅
8:36-8:37 I applaud Donald
"pleasure island, come join the fun jackass" - that should be their logo
I always thought that the elephants were catchy :D
As a kid when I saw Pinnocio for the first time, yeah the donkey scene was scary, but I was also surprised that a kids cartoon had the word "jack ass" in it. That's the first cartoon I've ever seen with any type of swearing in it. And I think I was like 4 or 5 at that time too.
The film was released in the 1940s; that word wasn't considered swearing back then.
@@MacandBloo4ever jackass isn’t really a curse word lol
Nostaaaaalgia. I used to watch you back in the epic mickey file days man. Hope you’re doing well. 🐭
Congratulations on getting a million views! You totally deserve it! :)
11:17 I've never seen Pinochio but that was just plain fucked up!
I know, right.
Pleasure island. Come join the fun jackass
+Shark fan of the sea Heheh. Hehehehehehehahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I know right and Bambi's mom's death tho that was just sad
should be banned disney movies dont swear but this is its jackass
Omg I used to be terrified to watch Dumbo when I was little because of that scene. I knew it was jacked up!!!
Headless Horseman...... Just... ALSO "DON'T YOU PULL SOME BULLCRAP ON ME!"
What kind of feels odd for me is that I didn't find the Pleasure Island scene from Pinocchio scary at all when I was a kid.
I always closed my eyes whenever that Dumbo-Drunk scene came on. It deeply disturbed me. And I was 7, I didn't know what deeply disturbed MEANT.
Look, I don't know what kind of alcohol you've been drinking lately, but I think that that scene would be warranted by A DIFFERENT SUBSTANCE ENTIRELY. Can you say LSD?
***** Now that I think about it, I never liked those clowns either. Something about them just bothered me.
The horned king should be a horror movie character!🤣😂
It would have some potenzial for horror movies!
I haven't seen Pinokio since I was a kid and I this is the first time I've realized that the donky kids are never saved or turned back into humans. OMFG!
WHY did "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin scare me when I was younger? I was so DUMB! That song is awesome!
