Who could have imagined that in 7 short years, EGO would go from an obscure company to an industry leading juggernaut that forever changed the way we care for our lawns. Sounds like hyperbole? Nope - consider this video EGO's mic drop!
In this video I review and test the New EGO Z6 Zero Turn Riding (ZTR) 42" Battery Powered Lawn Mower - it's powered by the new EGO 10Ah batteries. I show how to operate and demonstrate all the features of the Z6. You will be amazed at the cut quality, power, value, and convenience of this modern marvel. Sit back and enjoy!
#KiteArmy 2020
Just got a new gas ztr a couple of years ago. When that one quits out I know where I am going next. This looks great.
Let's hope your new mower breaks soon
@@Kitearmy hey hey hey lol let's NOT hope that!
@@americancitizen4259 That's a good news/bad news situation
Don't let this hype you! Extra 10Ah battery is $450. This mower is already $5k with only 4 battery. They should have given 6 Battery. I would stick to Ryobi 54" Blade 115Ah. Here's the math between the EGO and Ryobi.
EGO = 56V and 40Ah for $5k. Power = Voltage x Current. So the EGO Power = 2,240 Watts of power. You can only increase it to 3,360 Watts with the extra 2 battery.
Ryobi = 48V and 115Ah for $5k. This is 5,520 Watts of power.
More Watts will give you a longer duration of cutting time simply put. They Ryobi also has a larger cutting blade!!!
@@Moe7133 True math but what if you have a problem with that Ryobi battery - good luck getting it replaced. The EGO is just go to Lowes and your back in business. Also most people who own Z6 already have extra batteries. That being said, if you like the Ryobi then that is good - because the Z6 are sold out. Bet you can find a Ryobi with less problem
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Pro tip - when you turn. Only go 90 degrees with the mower back up a little and make another 90 degree turn. It’ll prevent you from turning too much on 1 spot and making a bald spot.
Also zero turns have trouble on hills since the front wheels are like casters and not steering wheels like a lawn tractor. It’ll go up and down hills fine but not left to right on the hills.
Great tip
They did a really good job with the over all design, function and versatility! Now, I just need to get the money! Thanks for the video.
Right - EGO needs to make a battery powered money machine. Comment pinned :)
@@Kitearmy I’m sure they would and could but the Federal Reserve Bank does not allow any competition when it comes to printing paper bills....their (Federal Reserve) EGO is too big 🙂

I've been using Ego products for years.
I have the self propelled lawn mower, the hedge trimmer and the chainsaw. I gotta say this brand has never failed me so I'm impressed in the quality of non-gasoline products they made.
I'm excited to checkout this new ride on lawn mower and the new two stage snow blower
I just used the 2-stage in the snow yesterday - total killer, removed snow right to the surface. Loved that and of course it's clear what I think of this mower
I do the digital marketing for EGO in Europe, excited to promote this beast !
ALL GAS....NO BREAK
Can you let me know where I can buy one in Portugal?
This thing is amazing. I saw it cut 8 foot high Saw Grass and it didn’t even Bog Down. I’m impressed.
It's unbelievable that this is battery powered
I love the reverse lights, they blink when you back up!
good eyes - worked to include that shot
Seems like a waste to me. If they stayed on steady while backing up mowing at night, that might be different.
@@ictpilot One day, someone will avoid an accident because of them - until that day, most people will consider them a waste
@@Kitearmy Well I don't see how there can be an accident. You're mowing in your own yard in the daytime and looking behind you when you back.
The unboxing was intense! One your best vids.
Appreciate it!
I'm glad EGO sent that out to you. Great video, I'd love to try one out myself 😁

I would pay $5k for that mower. The silence of battery power and no fumes is absolutely worth it!
This is the future
not only the fumes less upkeep maintenance involving engine oil etc I do not need to go outside of your property to get oil fuel filters and so on . I'm just waiting for Tesla to make one 😅 I imagine it will do 10 acres in one charge we've been strong enough for brush And we'll have a 10-year warranty we'll go from one mile an hour to 50 mph under three seconds 🤣
@@sagi1984nyc I agree with you except on the brush - I know that youtubers have demonstrated these mowers on thick brush to get the views, but truly that is not what the are designed for. I think some of these guys really should consider a tank rather than a lawn mower (see that, not brush mower). In any case, great comment.
@@Kitearmy yeah that was just a joke . while possible it will need a lot more power and a thicker frame to be able to cut light brush with no repercussion.
How much for the mower?????????
Truly awesome! The Z06 of all Zero turns....😁👍
Thanks mate
Every time I see Z06 I think of Corvette
Waited so long for something that Ryobi as been doing. For 4k dollars, Ryobi zero turn cuts 2.5 acres. The only reason to buy this is if you are already invested into ego. Good review

Nice video Andrew! Do you know if the 10Ah batteries fit in the new 2 stage snow blower? Thanks.
Yes - stay tuned for the test
All ego batteries fit all ego tools. You are good to go.
@@joeturoff2145 Its just that the new 10AH seems more beefy and so I want to have real proof that it actually fit. I know previous batteries fit in all there tools but that 10AH seems so larger!

Another great review video Andrew! I'm genuinely jealous of all the future EGO Z6 owners. I just moved last month into a community that takes csre of the mowing for us, and I'm REALLY struggling with that aspect of the move. I have been looking forward to purchasing this beautiful baby for 2 years, and now that it's here, I'm out of the market. I'm truly sickened by it. Knowing me, I'll try to justify the purchase anyway, in the off chance the 24 man crew gets sick one day, and is unable to cut my yard at that very moment.
Well you are invited over any time for a ride

Always great to get an email from you. Yeah I sort of had a little secret :) Keep up the awesomeness Wisconsin!
And it tows! Great video as usual. I was happy to see you let us hear it operate as well. It's nice and quiet!
Yeah - I wonder what the plan is for the tow hitch
The manual shows towing capacity of up to 250lbs rolling weight (Max 50lbs tongue weight). I have a core aerator, lawn roller, and small trailer that I use with my gas mower and plan to use them all with this Ego. I hoping and praying Ego would include towing capabilities and they delivered!

Good thing it comes with those batteries. The extra batteries are crazy expensive. I only have four 5.0 batteries between the mower and snow blower
That's 20Ah - should be able to mow about 1 to 1.5 acres
WOW!!!! I want this and i live in an apartment!! Maybe i can help out the maintenance guys :)
Time for a new job
AWESOME VIDEO !
Thanks!
Please don't play music over the sound of the mower... I was waiting all the way through the video to hear it only to have background music drown it out.
This is awesome. My yard is about a half acre, so I'm not sure I need a 42" ZT, but maybe they'll make a compact 30" riding mower for us home owners with not quite 1-2 acres. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first electric riding mower that uses a replaceable battery system.
I believe you are right - so in the unlikely event that you ever have a battery issue - no problem, you don't have to pay for a new mower. Total genius!
By the way - my yard is a little less than 1/4acre and this worked great
@@Kitearmy I have a lot of trees on my property, so I need something a little smaller anyway. Right now I have a EGO 21" self propelled mower and fall leaf cleanup is a nightmare. I definitely need a riding mower.

Just think when/if the new solid state batteries come out in the near future. Charge your mower in 15 mins. Twice the capacity with a battery a fraction of the size.
The new technology will only make mowers like this even better.
and you will be able to upgrade this mower to them by just changing the batteries

@@Kitearmy if someone would buy it, they’ll make it!
@@Kitearmy around 49 min mark th-cam.com/video/UbeXQQ5YV4o/w-d-xo.html
I own a Ryobi Zero Turn electric. It has four 12v batteries (like electric golf carts) with a 42 inch cutting deck (like the EGO Z6). You are correct in saying the Z6 can make tight turns, however I doubt the Z6 can mow tight turns (like around tree trunks), because of the narrow deck! My Ryobi 42” deck is almost the exact width as it’s rear wheels so the rear wheels are always bump up against the tree trunks and actually “wedge” the tires to the trees. I pretty much have to cut around trees like I’m on a lawn and garden tractor and make about four cuts around each tree. That’s why I was so disappointed after buying it! I also have a 60” John Deere ZTR and it doesn’t have any problem cutting around my trees. Let me know how Z6 does (mowing around trees) please. My guess is it’ll be like my 42” Ryobi! Deck and bump the tires. That’s what your traffic cones and egg test appeared to be showing! Your cones looked to be spaced about four feet apart but the Z6 looked like it was making six foot circles to get around the 4’ x 4’ cones without hitting them? Ryobi supposedly is coming out with a new ZTR electric with a 54 inch deck (and three blades) and my guess would be that their other customers were also disappointed with the 42” decks ability to trim around trees!
If you could make a video showing the Z6 circling tree trunks and cutting grass right up against the trunks, ( in one complete circle),then I’d sell the Ryobi and buy the Z6! My 60” John Deere weighs in around 1500 lbs. and I can’t use it to mow in the Spring when the ground is spongy, whereas the Ryobi is half the weight and literally floats on top of the ground without leaving ruts!
Will do - more videos coming
Nice review! Few questions about the mower, how is the cut quality? I know with the push mowers set at a higher setting it doesn’t generate enough lift and leaves tall patches.
Also how would you compare the striping compared to its gas counter part?
my grass is not good enough (yet) to really get a great striping look. I don't see any reason why this would be any better or worse than a gas ride on
Smart design if one battery pack fails you don’t have to replace all of them !
Plus extra run time with buying 2 extra packs!
Game changer
When did you record the video? Nice grass for December.
Used my ego 2 stage snowblower for the first time yesterday. Love it.
I have had the mower for about 3 months now - I'ts funny I was reading all the speculation about the mower, meanwhile it was parked in my garage.
I wish they make an a snow blower attachment ! Nice video !!
@@31vox They might - the mower is not even for sale yet
Been watching this same video over and over all year until my purchase 3 days ago 26May2022. Of course it rained for the first 2 days here in Michigan, but on that 3rd daaaayyyy... 😊
How's it been?
@@grheryford I love everything about it! The NEW argument amongst myself and brothers is who's turn to use MY Z6 to cut mom's lawn. I know dad's looking down and thinking... I couldn't get those lazy bums to walk near the grass for 20 years, then along came EGo. 😊

That would be perfect for today - I got mounds of snow
Good one,
I’m holding out and hoping Ego jumps into that 30 inch riding mower group for around 2k. Fingers crossed. Heck, even a push/self propelled 30 inch would be great!
I doubt they will do a 30" ride but I could see a 30" push
@@Kitearmy I’m holding out this year, if I don’t see something new from Ego come Spring I’ll probably get one of the available 30 inch riding mowers. I have an older Ego push I’m using, my Craftsman gas riding mower died again. The older ego gets the job done but I really need something wider than 21 inches, it takes too long.

To Steve Meyer I was originally looking at getting the Cub Cadet cc30e. Unfortunately only certain exclusive dealers are allowed to sell the electric mowers. The Cub Cadet web sight showed where these dealers are located in relation to where I live. The closest dealer is sixty miles away. They had none of the electric mowers and didn't know if or when they were going to get any. I tried calling dealers further and further away and got the same story. Even if they could get one, they wouldn't deliver to me. I don't have a truck or trailer. Anyway I called MTD who make Cub Cadet and Craftsman and was told that none were available and that they weren't scheduled to make a run of the electric mowers untill late June or early July. I have an Ego walk behind mower. After having it for a couple of months the speed adjustment switch or control stopped working. I called Ego. I got a warranty agent within ten minutes. The gal told me that there were no warranty repairs shops anywhere near me so they would have to send me a whole brand new mower. I thought, a whole new mower just for a switch? I did get a brand new mower within a couple of days. Ego even paid for the pickup and shipping of the original mower. So my experience with warranty issues was very positive. Even with this much more expensive mower my wife was for me getting the Ego as she doesn't have to put up with my cursing because of poor customer service. Your comment about the first customers being Bata testers hit the nail on the head. I've already found out about a manufacturer defect and haven't even gotten my new mower delivered from Lowes. The Ego mower was available at a Lowes fifteen miles away. They uncrate, assembled, and deliver for free-another reason for buying the Ego mower.
You definitely did your research!
I think the ego mower should of added a j1772 charging port because then the same one that works with an electric car would work on it but I think it’s nice to have the same battery platform because they are committed to only make that one battery platform and what’s nice is that if they degrade to the point they will need to replace it you don’t have to worry about replacing or buying a new mower just buy new batteries and swap them out
This mower is future proof with the easily replaceable batteries
I have a Ego Mower and I love it. I always wanted Ego to create a zero turn and am glad they finally built one. The only downs side is that I saw the cost of this bad boy, I saw this on Lowes website for $5K. Yikes
You might be able to buy it bare to save some sratch
Ego has reverted the zero turn ridding mower again.
Yes sir
I know I can't afford this but I'm going to see what black Friday sales look like anyways!
Let me know if you find anything
I need them to make a 2-stage snow blower as amazing as this, that can deal with 10-12" of snow and hilly 12-car driveway on one charge.......
You mean like this? egopowerplus.com/two-stage-snow-blower-snt2400/
My favorite part about using this mower is pulling it in the garage silently with surgical precision.
It always shocks me when it moves quietly
Good luck with there battery and the warranty
I expect to replace the batteries in about 7-10 years - I can live with that. Still cheaper, less time, and less headaches than gas.
You do great reviews seen your review on the John Deere mower a other great review friend keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!
How will it cut on hilly Terrain. Will it climb with its front wheels still on the ground and how will it be going down a steep incline. A challenge for most zero turns
This thing can climb steep mountains like a goat
What attachment and how much is the bagging option for this mower? Also will the bag pick up walnuts, or just grass and or leaves? I need a bagging that can pick up leaves and walnuts if possible...
Testing that right now
Any results from the test? If it sucks up walnuts that would be awesome those things are about a peach size obviously leaves pickup for Fall cleanup is essential. I have yet to see that video on TH-cam with these electric riding mowers & their bagger attachment. If you can do a video on Fall leaves cleanup & possibly other material cleanup such as pine cones, pine needles, walnuts. That would be a unique video. As aforementioned, no one has created such a video for this mower
Great first ever review! Wish I had seen this 6 months ago. I was looking a t a floor model at True Value and wondering how low can it cut? You and a number of other sources state 1.5" is the lowest. The unit I looked at had what appeared to be makings every 1/3rd of an inch. The markings seem to go to 1-1/3".
I'm hoping to mow at 1/2". Are there any work-a-rounds for lowering the blade height?
Also any chance of actually measuring the blade height off your driveway or grass height on the lowest setting?
Good work on video!
Thanks mate - I guess the best measurement would be the cut length

I just purchased this mower from Lowes. Unfortunately these mowers don't come with the mulching plug. Lowes has no way to order one. I called Ego and was told that they are unavailable. I mentioned this video and was told that the mower in the video was of a preproduction prototype, not the actual mower customers will receive. The gal I talked to said that there were problems with the mulching plugs as originally designed, as as of yet Ego hasn't come up with a solution. She assured me that the new plugs should be available for purchase by late summer. I only mulch, so where does this leave me? The solution given is to take a piece of cardboard and some duct tape and cover the hole in the deck. Five grand and a do it yourself jerry rig solution for something other mower brands include or at least have available. Sounds really professional. I just hope the cardboard holds to up to deck washouts.
I'm disappointed to hear that - my test unit did include a plug - I don't see any reason why that should not be included.
How does it feel using those handles? They look a bit disconnected to use.. I'd almost prefer just joysticks like a skid-steer uses or something where you can rest your arm and control with small arm/wrists movements instead of elliptical type arm movements.
This was my first time using a zero turn - felt natural after just a few minutes

Just curious, when you plug in the mower, does it charge all the batteries simultaneously or one by one?

I wonder if they will offer a 'tool only' model and how much that would be. I have a few of the 5 and 7.5 ah batteries and don't have that large of a yard - 0.5 acres. They get the job done (good enough for personal use) without gas and oil at a fair price. That being said, I would NEVER pay $5 grand for this. You'd have to be CRAZY to pay $5 grand for this.haha For that amount of money, you can buy a really nice commercial mower that will outperform this Ego in every way with ease. I'm out.
It's expensive for sure - interesting fact though, these sold out the first day they announced them
@@Kitearmy I understand why somebody would want one, I just think that its overpriced. Should be priced around the $2,999 to $3,499 range IMHO. It's not a heavy duty machine: no welded deck, no heavy duty hydros.
@@JGSnave I believe it is priced fair
Does it have a smart timer on the charger? I want to be able to charge at the time electric rates are cheaper without having to go plug it in.
No but you could put a simple timer that this plugs into - where I live they do not have variable rates
How would this do in ditches? The amount of weight in the rear gives me a little concern; but looks like a solid machine overall.
I would not say that the batteries are any heavier than a gas motor
Ego The best mower egos ever built can’t wait to the comes to United Kingdom the best of luck to it in United Kingdom
I think these are coming to Europe soon
You're right I can't believe my eyes you're wearing a pink flannel shirt that's what you've been dreaming about for years.🤣🤣 George... also who's the girl with the shorts on the mower LOL
Mate....how's that closet?
@@Kitearmy right the one you came out of I got it LOL
@@jpntjp1it's safe here - time to be your true self
@@Kitearmy we did have some pretty warm nights in the closet😅😅
@@jpntjp1 I told you that it was important to add hvac to your closet
I wonder if the 10 amp batteries will fit in my new snowblower. It has 7.5 amp. Probably all that I need but in the spirit of Tool Time....POWER!
They will - I tested
Need to make a 38" for people that don't have 2-3 acres. Direct compete with the Ryobi.
It fit through my fence - just a little wider than 42"
Is it worth buying for a lawn care company over gas tho?
I know a few professional outfits are using them - hearing good things. I would give it some more time to see for sure
So I don’t have $5k to spend on a new mower but I want this. Would love to see a lower cost smaller riding unit for the masses. From the perspective of that big extended rear end, seems like they could have engineered the battery compartment to stack the batteries instead of slots. Would have allowed for mowing in the tightest of corners if they could shave off at least the length of one row of those batteries.
True - but maybe they needed the space for a bagger
Thank you for sharing! Question, so the 2 acre cut capacity is with 4 batteries, but there are 6 bays; will it go longer if you have 6?
Yes - I have seen some comments that the manual says about 3acres on 6x10ah batteries. I would say based on my testing that adds up
Bagger?
Two stage snowblower attachment?
I know that a bagger exists - not sure about plow yet
So we can slap extra batteries in if we have them like 2.5ah for a little more range/ reducing overall cycling.
yep - I would guess that a 3.5Ah will give you about 1/4 acre of mowing
@@Kitearmy does it perform better than advertised? Because online it claims the 4 10ah will give it 2 acres so 1/4 acre should come out to 5Ah.
@@dylanwhite6539 I think it depends on the conditions - I was able to mow about 2.5acres with the 4 10Ah batteries
@@Kitearmy nice. Ego is a company with a lot of confidence and pride so I figure they’d be more included to understate than overstate
@@dylanwhite6539 I live on a 1/4 acre and mowed about 5 times between charges - still had power left
Yes it does have a bagging system.tech made easy has a video on it.
They also have some info on the EGO website
