So this was the original plan for Lord Hans! A G 500 4x4 convertible. When we initially decided to get the G wagon after our TH-cam live session with you guys in Åre. I had two problems.
1. We could not fit it in the Monaco parking garages.
2. I did now know how to make the build special enough as there was lots of cool G wagons out there.
Then me, Hans and Benni came up with the idea of cutting the roof of it, at first we just laughed about the idea but then Hans said, go for gold, always do what you want to do, don't be normal, be 100% you!
So we decided then and there to do it, but I was a bit unpatient and wanted to drive the car for a but so I said, let's build it up with off road set up first and then we cut it for the summer. Then once we were in the Netherlands and recived the car I had looked at my travel schedule and figured out that since I would be traveling a lot over chistmas and new year this would be a perfect time to do it (and since I am really impatient I just had to get it done). It would also get the car ready for the Snow Tour which was a great motivation to speed up the process. I mean if you roll next to a Bat Mobile you have to have kind of a crazy car to not seem normal (I hate normal, haha). Of course we are going to freeze our asses off but its no different than an afternoon on a snowmobile, you just have to dress well! haha
In terms of rain protection we are working on a few soultions but I don't really care, a fun car is rarely practical and atleast in this one I still have 4 seats and a sound system, so way more pratical than the Rebellion and the Praga, I even have seat heating! ;-)
So the car will be compleated and shown on the 18th of Jan, we still have a few surprises in our back pocket, but I am soooooo excited about this build as its probably one of the craziest things I have done to cut the roof of a G wagon. But I can't let ideas I get so I had to do it. I think it will be the perfect Monaco beach cruiser! I just need to get a serious sound system in there!

besides decreasing the value and security of the car what about those rainy days and leaving things in the car (Its like a oversized golf car). Its nice to have i guess but i am not sure about the practicality afterall. But on the other hand you'll be the only one parking the G W in the parking garage and driving around Monaco.
I love how Jon just breaks materialistic hearts by not been all prissy with his cars. Something to learn. This is just another piece of metal. Who cares, have fun with it if you are smart enough to make it work for you.
I love it, so different from other 4x4 owners that just hit a slow traffic highway to grab a burger bite. Plus, the editing with just ONE guy! Benny and Jon, that’s it! No need for huge squads and still the videos are a whole different level. Best channel for cars and adventure. Good job guys!
You don't understand, 1st off it is sacrilege to do that to such a marvelous beast, 2nd structural integrity is gone and over 30mph the chassis will shake like crazy, 3rd, the off road ability is compromised immensely. 4th, convertible suvs are disgusting e.g murano convertible
Watching this after the live stream makes me really appreciate the hard post production work you do, the b-roll you shoot, the clever transitions, and the fact theres a general layout to each video (with a clear beginning and ending). just saying thanks and keep being an inspiration :)

G wagon is body on frame, so he technically does not need to do any reinforcements. He can take all the doors also off it it would not make a difference. But I would add at least roll bars, in case car ends up with wheels off the ground.

This is amazing. G Wagon is one of the last pointless ridiculous expensive dinosaurs, a useless obsolete military car that started life with 75hp and basically remained the same over the years, that you actually gave it a purpose in life. I congratulate you for this and admire your guts !!. BRAVO !

Professional Car Designer here ✋ I really hope you find a way to add a roll cage for structural rigidity... You just cut of a very important piece of the cars safety feature. Idk what's more important spendi g a huge amount of money to cut the roof off so you don't pay for 60e for parking or paying for 60e parking so you have the safety of your car. You have just created an 800hp death trap the torque is going to make this thing handle like shit now. Not to mention you just killed the beauty of a g.

Judging by the rear crossbar he showed in his live stream and also in this video, they will add strengthening, but it was the first thing that popped into my mind as well!
The G class is built on a ladder chassis, the roof doesn’t actually offer that much structural support...
Yeah I saw that cross bar as well. I'm assuming the shop knows how to add rigidity back to it. But this is a very expensive way to save 60e a day XD this is one of the coolest cars he has built and just ruined it. I understand the freedom to build what you want is an amazing thing. Having the freedom to design what I want is important to car design. But sometimes less is more. I think this is disturbing because they are just winging it like a ricer would build his car lol. At least design the thing so it looks good and is safe in the end..

Going high speed, in a car with a very high center of mass is not a great idea. SUV's roll very easily compared to other cars.
Just to clarify, I love the convertible idea, but the roof adds a lot to the structural integrity and the safety of the car, so make sure does not decapitate you in case of a crash/rollover.
he already explain in a previous video the roll cage is on going that's why you have a huge bar on the back (it's not from factory i think it's the back stucture of the roll cage )
Have you seen that G rollover in London? You can see the body structure is weak. A rollcage will probably be stronger than the original body.

jon is my spirit animal. i have been wanting to do a convertible station wagon or take a station wagon and turn it into a truck for so long so i dig this type of stuff. i wish i had the money and skills to modify stuff like this

What would you do if you had a large amount of money to play with after several years of work? The structural integrity of the car is pretty fucked now, having a roof adds rigidity and strength to the body. Make sure you add lots of cross braces to get that rigidity back.

Giveaways Project I’m not saying that he has ruined it, but the car is quite unsafe now with the massive loss of rigidity. I know the absolute guys know what they are doing, so they will most defiantly be adding braces to the chassis to get it back to the point of being stock.
I hope you are going to put a roll cage on it. High center of gravity and no roof structure sure is a recipe for disaster if it flips over.
