In this weeks video, I introduce you to a relatively unknown and incredible product being manufactured in Germany for the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, the Schmude Camptop. You also get introduced to Christopher, the owner of Traildust Restoration in Sausalito, CA, currently the only shop in the U.S. installing the Camptop product. If you would like more information on the Schmude Camptop, visit their website @ www.schmude-hardtop.de
If you're ready to have a Camptop installed onto your G-Wagen, contact Christopher: @ traildustrestoration@gmail.com

Feels like you are the premium version of me. I camp with a defender, you do with G wagon. I shoot medium format, and you shoot large. I’m 5’4” and you are 6’3” 😂
LOL. You are the pocket version.
You both have small willies though.
Lovely conversion Shane. Chris is definitely the artist. I have the good fortune of knowing him and Alan first hand. They are pillars of the G enthusiast community. Infact i saw the first ever Camptop on Alan’s G before deciding to buy a G. Mines on its way soon :)
Enjoy the G it’s a bloody tank
Outstanding conversion. Love it. I just sent Christopher an email to see if I can get this done on my rig.
THATS WILD
The amount of adrenaline I got just from watching YOU cut the roof off your g wagon was amazing. Sweaty palms and all! As always, loved the video and this looks like an amazing set up! Cheers!
Haha! It certainly got my adrenaline pumping too. In the end, definitely worth it. Thanks!
I agree with previous subscribers, that was a daunting job, well done guys and you topt it of with apropiate music and some fine B&W pictures, i liked especially the one with the beached boat and the portrait of Christopher, just classic art 👌🏻
This is next level. Never knew this was a possibility, now I have to ask my Toyota FJ Cruiser friend with tent setup what he thinks of your rig.
Hello. It looks super nice with this rtt. I really like how it looks, not even noticed when you give a quick look for it😄 Nice job. Have Great time with it when travelling👋
Outstanding work Cristopher and Shane, changed everything, very practical and functional, created a nice large space ,really beautiful photographs!!!
Thanks, Nat!
Do you still have the roof skin you cut out? Interested in purchasing it as the area around my sunroof is badly corroded.
I've been wanting one of these for a while but keep missing out on the group buys. Hopefully I'll get in on the next batch, seeing this video just makes me want to get one on my G even more. Thanks for showing it off so well.
Wow that is awesome!
Love it!
Nice view of the GG Bridge framed by the trees- one I have not seen before!
Thank you!
wow, how scary was that first cut?. G wagon looks awesome with the new camp top. and once again some great pics to help inspire us
Love the video and the truck looks great. The boat picture and the GG bridge framed by the trees is beautiful.
Thanks! Those are my two favorite as well.
Hello Shane congrats on the Jeep, great photographs could you tell me what type of film was used? Thanks
Great Photos
That's such an awesome setup! I look forward to seeing it in person next time we inadvertently choose campsites next to each other in DV without either of us knowing it. 🙂
Thanks, Ben! It’s pretty awesome. Yeah, hopefully the timing works out next year. We just missed each other this last winter.
Outstanding Shane
Thank you for putting this together!
nice work on the G Wagon....I wouldn't be brave enough (or rich ) to get this done....lol looks a lot neater than a roof top tent. Love the boat wreck picture
Thank you! I started saving for it in 2018, so it felt very gradual. Yeah! I lucked out with the clouds that day.
Wow. Now I can see why you did it. Nice setup. Looks much more comfortable.
There's so much more space inside now. It also saved 275 lbs of roof load.
Fantastic job. I really want one of those G-wagons! Great photos.
If you can find an affordable option, they're awesome trucks.
Fantastic Cristopher!!
Best of luck with the conversion Shane, it looks a sturdy job ďone with great skill
You got some nice shots when you were there also 📷👍
Thank you! It wasn't a photography trip, but I'm happy with the photographs.
soo cool
gerat stuff and good work on your car!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing. The camp top is CRAZY expensive !! What was the cost of fitting? Now it is on your vehicle and you have used it, what is your opinion of it? Was it worth doing ? Cheers from new Zealand.
Apparently you plan to use that G Wagon for awhile. Would you use that set up in the winter, or is that only a 3 season rig? If so, how would you heat the space?
Love the contrast and directional lighting in the Pt Reyes boat image, so dramatic. Did you use a filter or increase contrast in post? The marshland image is very cool too. Plus a great portrait of Chris.
Hope you can get past all these time consuming projects and get back to posting photography videos more regularly. Looking forward to the next vid.
No plans to sell the G. I'll probably invest in a new motor before considering a new truck. Everything new is so expensive. I would consider it a 4 season set up if I were to install a heater. Webasto makes a good vehicle heating option.
Thank you. Yes, I used a #15 deep yellow filter on the Point Reyes shipwreck scene. Yeah, me too. The videos are fun, but very few people contribute like yourself. I certainly appreciate the support. The video scheduling revolves around my freelance work schedule.
That’s awesome! What’s the payload on the truck? Also how big is the load floor? How big are your drawers? It seems like it could make a good family overland rig with a set of drawers in the back and some shelves for luggage organization and a roof rack.
Family? It only sleeps 2.
Very beautiful conversion! Even here in Germany, the home of this company, a very rare and rather luxury conversion. How long can you be to sleep comfortably upstairs?
It is definitely a luxury purchase, I've been slowly saving and planning it out since 2018. It's very quick to set up, maybe 1-2 mins to get into bed.
@@shanedignum congratulation! I wish nice adventures and good sleep… ;)
