It never ceases to amaze me what people record. It also never ceases to amaze me how many times I find these recordings useful. I just picked up this exact washer and needed to know if the sounds it makes are normal. After listening to this, I can see that my motor is really loud when draining. Also, my washer stops at the 6 minute mark during the Ultra Clean cycle. It just keeps agitating even though I can hear the timer clicking. The dial just sits at the 6 minute mark. The perma press cycle works normally. Any clues?
I bought the last of the left opening lid 90 series just before these came out in 2003 as the replacements. Sears Best series of dd washers I always thought . Very fully featured and versatile.
I still have a kenmore washer sitting in my basement from the 80s, but it stopped spinning a couple years ago. I paid $20 for the matching washer dryer set in 2006 and the washer lasted me 3 years, but I didn't think it was worth fixing. The dryer is still going though, just replaced the belt a few years ago and no problems since then.
Just recently, I got a machine just like this! Model 110.23022100 and it’s problem was the bushing for the lid had worn out and the lid switch wasn’t activated correctly and the had to use a screwdriver to get the machine to run, but I’m gonna fix it sooner then later. Great machines I wish they never stopped making the whirlpool direct drives
Great! Glad you put it up! I must say though, only 5 years? That's too bad. Our direct drive from 1990 has only ever had agitator dog and drain pump replacement, and is still going today. What exactly broke on this one?
@Sharkie626 The older one you had was actually well made. The later ones kept breaking this plastic drive coupler. I think it was going bad again and the dryer broke in 2008 so my parents just bought a front loading Kenmore pair to replace them both.
If u take the screws out of the hing on the left of the lid and push that hing down but leave lid up it will drain and spin with lid open. Another option is to open up the control panel (after u unplug the machine) and take the white and gray wire going to lid switch which will be on the left and tie those wire together with a wire nut.
Back when Frigidaire was still being built by GM, the did a commercial comparing the turnover between the Frigidaire and the old belt drive Kenmore. At the time the Frigidaire was better, but the direct drive Kenmore would have given the Frigidaire a run for its money.
Late add here, but, TH-cam's sound quality had really changed for the better, back when I watched the original video in 2007. I could barely hear you while it was running, but now it is MUCH better.
We had a washer a lot like that one but it did not have the Hang Dry speed option, it had four water levels, a Triple Action Agitator, and a side opening lid. It was from 2002 and it also lasted only five years before the drive coupler broke a second time. We replaced it with a Kenmore Oasis Agitator model which cleaned well but was very unreliable. It just broke down for the last time(again after 5 years) and we replaced it with an LG WaveForce top-loader.
@spatsbear2 Ahh yeah, the drive coupler is one of the more common parts to go on these direct drives. Though, even on the one we have, it is still plastic. But, *shrugs* guess it is what it is.
They are plastic and meant to break in case a bearing or motor seizes or the pump has frozen water in it. It saves the rest of the drive mechanism. So, they will wear out and are meant to be replaced as a normal wear item but that occurs after some time.
Planned obsolence pisses me off to no end! What's worse though is, outlawing incadescent lightbulbs in 2014 in Canada. I'm allergic to fluorescent lightbulbs! I'm gonna stock up on 25W, 40W, 60W and 100W incadescent bulbs before they're gone for good!
I had a washer almost identical to this one, something happened and it wouldn't spin the drum. I decided not to repair it as the parts were seemingly hard to find, in the end me and my fiancee went and bought a new kenmore by samsung washer and dryer, bought the extended warranty as well, not too sure how these machines will work in a few years.
Now this gets the job done... Clean, clean, cleaaaannnnnnnnn...... And not today's garbage wishing thinking machine that doesn't even wash clothes this good. lol.
had this washer for almost 20 years. still going decently strong
This is the kind of washer Kenmore needs to start making again!!

If the timer is stuck, replace it. The timer is relatively cheap.

I still have mine. Works fine. Wonder what brand to replace it with
@@noonelikedee Fix what you have or get a refurbished identical model and keep going strong.

I had the same washer give to me quieter than the whirlpool so much better made machines than the new belt driven models
My new place came with an identical washer, made in 1999. Not much changed in the newer models.
Great! Glad you put it up!

I think my dad had that same washer. it lasted quite sometime before it started to crap out.
ToryTheFanMan oh hi mr. fan dude

I like the sound of those direct drive machines.
I'd say that is a great washing machine, and I think the lid switch is activated by the left door hinge.
You still have the machine?
Nice washer!
Nice washer! Whose washer is it?
I have had my washer sents 2002 and it just started making a banging noise. (It needs a new clutch)
Yes.
also its easy to disable the lid switch just turn the left lid hinge pull it down to the closed position to activate the lid switch
This was recorded in 2005? woah.
i have been using the Giant Eagle laundry detergent since a long time

You should replace your LG Wave Force washer with a Speed Queen AWN432 top loading agitator washer.
@westernmassachusettselevat1289 I like your name lol.
from 7:55 to 9:04 put it on 0.5 speed and it will sound robotic when it drains
Diego DaSilva how do you do that?

Nice agitator! Sheesh! Whose washer is it and did I just hear a meow? If it is a cat, what is its name?
Whose washer is this?
These will always clean better than todays shitty HE terrible wash action washers.
That One Ford Guy mine cleans amazing, it's a Maytag Bravos 4.3 cubic ft. I load it per manual and works great for me
FUCK YOU HOMI
They should be crushed and shot! Long live the filter-flos and direct drives!
Fuck that "washer"! It's a dirtier!
An old belt drive is MUCH better.
This is really from 2003?

The Kenmore washers built by LG and Samsung are a piece of shit.
@shio one time i also peed into the fabric softer dispenser of a ge washer but then got in trouble for doing it
because i was wondering what would happen if i put urine into the fabric softener dispenser (and because i needed to go to the bathroom)
Hays Coleman That was so fucking disgusting.

This is basically the last washer before CHINA.
Then everything went to hell.
Why did you use 8 minutes on a heavy duty load?
Now this gets the job done... Clean, clean, cleaaaannnnnnnnn...... And not today's garbage wishing thinking machine that doesn't even wash clothes this good. lol.
