My mom had this exact washer and dryer set…same color. It. Was incredibly quiet. The wash cycle buttons actually engaged pins in the timer so if you selected whites you got the 14 minute normal cycle that it would stop at as you turned it. The. Heavy duty option meant it would agitate at the higher speed for the entire cycle without going into low speed. It served our family of six kids very well with zero repairs
For how long ?
This is a beautiful old machine
Wow what a great woo woo machine and the color is very unique.
My Dad said Mom could have any color as long as it was white. He HATED the avocado and brown ones!
That is a BEAUTIFUL "Buzz Grind Click" it makes!
Every company needs to go back to old school. Quality!
Absolutely, and bring back old Kenmore's and Maytag go Back to the original Maytag s 1960's
And 1970's models!
@@Jerry-dq4om If they do the companies are afraid of loosing money I think that why they make them the way they do nowa days to tear up and most will most will go and buy a new machine instead of spending the money to try to fix or the parts out way the cost of a new machine
The style of agitator is called the Roto-Flex for the six fins at the bottom, as most agitatiors at the time only had four.
I thought the agitator was adjustable . You could adjust it for gentle or aggressive agitation.
@ craigsclocks
That would be the Vari-Flex which was found the in the later high-end Kenmores (Kenmore 900, Kenmore 800 and the later Lady Kenmore - with the cover on the control panel).
-Charles-
@@Bunkysworkshop There was a "VariFlex" dasher ivailable. The dashers were black plastic into the late sixties, with black-and-white speckled enamel tub if memory don't prove me false.
@@winstonelston5743 These washers fascinate me for some reason.
Since I have a ‘63 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII with a similar set up, you select the temperatures and options you want, turn the knob until it stops, push to start. It’s a little disorienting at first but once you get the hang of it, fairly straightforward to use.
That was like my mom’s sears lady kenmore used push the cycle selector than turn the knob until it stops
My late grandmother had a 1966 Lady Kenmore washer. She used two push buttons all of the time. She used Cottons Linens Colored & Heavy Duty together. The motor burned out in 1976. She replaced the 66 LK with a 1976 Kenmore 70 Series washer with the Penta Swirl Agitator and 26 gallon tub. The 76 KM was still running good when she sold it in 1996. She liked her 76 KM better than her 66 LK. The capacity was much larger and it was much easier to use.
When I first got done with college bought my first house there was a used appliance store down by where I lived that I went to fine washer and dryer I got the same set except in avocado green set I bought for $150 and to this day I wished I had kept them I loved then they were fantastic and I’ve been looking for one like that every since the great there work horses
We had a really nice top loading apartment size avocado green set. We upgraded finally, but they still worked!
As a child growing up in the late 60's and 70's, my parents always bought used Kenmore washers (with the exception of a GE Filter Flo). I remember one model had the scrubber agitator head like this one but it was black or gray so an older model than this. I'm sure they were well used when my parents bought them but they served our family of 4 well for several years after. I was always fascinated with washers so I spent many a hour sitting and watching them work
@ stevegordon5243: I'd do the very same thing as you'd do . Often times I would go to Dutch Maid Coin operated Laundromat and continuously watch the machines in action and curiosily see what detergents were being used.
I always use a second rinse about 90% of the time.
I have a 2018 SPEED QUEEN TR5 SERIES WASHER and to always get the best washing results I always use the Auto-fill feature.
Pretty sure that agitator had a rubber cover with little nubs/bumps that you could use to scrub stains out with, there were still lots of these in use when I started repairing appliances in the early 80s
VERY SOLID MACHINE BACK TO THE FUTURE.
Amazing wash performance from this vintage washer with those heavy, non-flexible work pants it's still managed to pull them all under. Plus, it managed not to suds lock with the amount of suds that were in there.
@petermaz7: Amazing suds kill and no suds-lock! My 1992 Maytag would have suds locked in the first spin with all those suds.
we always used to start the water first, put in the soap and then the clothes while still filling.
I always liked how Kenmore always had their lids open from the side
The early Kenmore automatics into about the mid 50s had rear opening lids.
well they now they rais efrom the front up.I really do not care about that as long as it cleans. The old GE filter flo I kinda liked grandparents had them and the pan caught the lint in the water now there is nothing to filter or catch any of the lint now
This is so awesome, I have been a tech for 23 years and I can say without a doubt that I despise 95% of the current new washing machines today. I’m not sure why I still go out on jobs because if I were a customer, I would just buy the cheapest Amana washer and throw it away every five years.
@Brownie-tg3 nu: Also you'd be satisfied with the HOTPOINT agitator washer so far it's not HE labeled.
It sure got rid of those suds in the first spin miraculously. I thought sure it was going to suds-lock in the first spin. Still I'd want to use HE DETERGENTS in this machine.
I have a 6 year old GE GTW460/465. It's never let me down and always turns out a clean, extra large load of clothes on a weekly basis.
Also a service tech since the late 70s. Agreed! Buy a cheap Amana and just replace it every 5 years or so. Speed Queen has some pretty decent stuff. I haven't heard too many service complaints. Thoughts?
@@johncrawford6571 same here except I have not been doing it as long as you. I always tell people to find an old whirlpool, Kenmore or something like that from the 80s or 90s. You can usually pick one up for about $200 and can have a reliable machine after it’s touched up a bit for longer than you would a modern day Amana I think. Although a new. Amana isn’t a bad buy for $500
any chance of getting a video or pictures of the drive train on the old girl.... I've not seen or worked on anything older than direct drives. Its interesting to see that (WP) Kenmore dryer still is designed the same with lent screen thru the top!
I remember all those buttons on a KM set my grandparents had back in mid 70s. Loved watching that machine in action. Just miss the bona fide cartridge lint filters...the more expensive machines had a self-cleaner...a soap dispenser replaces the filter in this machine.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
😊 I was born in 1959. Growing up in a small town that’s where you went to shop with Sears they had trusted brands that were dependable back in the day.
The agitator is a Roto Flex. I wonder if you had a Roto Swirl agitator the roll over would be better?. I had a 65' Lady with this agitator and liked it. Cheers.
If you have too many suds in a top loader, add a shot of softener. The fat in it calms the foam.
@momkatman: Use a second deep rinse with fabric softener which would be even better.
HOW DOES IT FILL UP SO FAST?? That's so cool!
What a nice quiet machine plus thevspin rinse cycle is one of a kind
Well hello there Eugene, this is Ray, the blind guy.
Oh my goodness this washer. It reminds me very nearly of my aunt Audrey‘s 1965 whirlpool that I first experienced as a toddler padding into her utility room at about two years old.
Oh how I loved the sound of her washing machine. Very nearly like the one that you showed. Do you know what I mean? It’s not boring sound that’s constantly there in the background of the machines functionality. Oh how I loved and enjoyed it!!!
I sure wish you would feature many more of those, that is, if you can get them.
By the way, have you given any thought to the return of the “your agitating me “T-shirts?
We still have some in stock in gray, but we might bring them back in a few new colors.
That's amazing...They really did make them better then.
Eugene, the buttons and timer are operated by selecting a cycle and options, pulling the timer out, turning until it locks at the proper starting position and pushing it in (which then releases the lock so it can advance through the cycle). Some buttons are options that are used in combination with a cycle. Custom Care switches agitation to the Extra Slow third motor speed. Selective Dialing releases all the cycle buttons and the lock mechanism so the timer can be freely turned 360° to any position.
Heavy Duty ... I believe agitation reduces to Slow speed toward the end of the Normal (and maybe Perm Press) wash period due to the aggressiveness of the Roto Flex agitator. Heavy Duty has agitation stay at High speed for the duration.
The detergent dispenser is primarily for the two Pre-Wash cycle choices (which runs a 4-min prewash, drain, spin, then proceeds into the Normal cycle). Put detergent into the tub for the prewash, into the dispenser for the main wash. It can also be used for the main wash detergent when Pre-Wash isn't run. The dispenser flushes for only the first increment or two of the wash period so it won't work if a load is started manually (via Selective Dialing) for a shorter wash period.
I see a Suds position on the timer, so this is a Suds Saver model (or was originally, if the mechanism no longer works or has been removed).
Seems like the speed is slower than normal, maybe belt's loose
Wigwag was in a very good position, love the shifting from neutral drain into spin.
My parents had this set in white...i loved pressing the buttons as a kid lol
Nice machine. Just looking at the machine you can see how solid it is. Those die cast control panels exude quality.
Nice find and cool color!
I enjoy this washer. It reminds me of the 1976 Kenmore All American washer my grandparents had. It had letters for each cycle, and I last saw it in Platteville, Wisconsin in August 2006 before my grandparents downsized and moved to Stoughton. I'd love to see that very washer again someday.
I had one. The chrome door on the right side top is used to put detergent in as water will flows into it and exit into the tub, and the others are for softener and bleach. Water level can be adjusted on the fly during a running load. through the reset function. That agitator was known to be a little aggressive because it has no base. They don't make them like this anymore. Now they try to reinvent the wheel which sucks. The newer models limit your water input which is ass backwards because you need lots of water to wash the clothes. Have fun. Don't overload it with clothes.
The cap of that agitator reminds me of a spray-paint can. Also, love the mechanical noise of that motor!
An unusual feature at 20:44 with a special spray rinse from the dispenser. Was that used for the softener?
Yes, it doubles as a Lint Filter. During the 60's, Dryer's didn't have lint filters.
Keep it. It’s great!
The model year of this vintage Kenmore washer is the first two digits after the decimal of the model number. It may not actually indicate the year it was manufactured but does indicate the year it was introduced as they may have had this model available for a couple years.
It's a 1968 model. I saw it in a old Sears ad online.
I have a stainless steel 1970s limited edition gas range stove, that a friend of mine found on Facebook for $75.00 and it's clean the top rage has been used but the stove oven never ben used it looks brand new. It has a light to turn on in the stove and a light to turn on at the crown of the stove and a time clock on the right side of it, it has 5 silver buttons to push for clean the oven to bake a timer and clock button. Im 48 remember them well as they use them up to 1985. The stove is black on both sides and stainless steel on top rang and were the light is some black. The older stove cook better. It's a Kenmore.
Boy do I miss the old washing machine the work and sound great. I bought the Maytag commercial It does a pretty good job but it just sounds cheap doesn’t have the sound like these old ones have I’ve had it2 years so far if it shits the bed I’m gonna look for an old Kenmore or whirlpool to restore and use
I had a 1970 900 set that was very similar to this. Great washer, I sold them to another collector.
Kenmore had an issue with big agitators like the Super Roto Swirl and the TOL Vari-Flex, taking up clothes capacity space. The Roto Flex seen here allowed much more room and still gave a vigorous wash action.
It sure does!
Btw there’s a cap on the agitator you can take off and use as a detergent cup
He showed that feature near the beginning of the video.
@@wmalden whoops, i didn’t see that. He didn’t use the detergent dispenser tho. Hopefully he does for the next vids of this marvellous machine
Oh thats a lovely set to have , that agitator did the job well saying no base , do like the side opening lid that you still have access to the control panel.
Does the detergent filterflow not stay on constantley on these later models ?
We had a 1968 Lady Kenmore washer & dryer set it was avocado green and it lasted until the motor burned out in 1994!
You should have fixed it,you'll never find anything made today comparable to these machines, new he machines are a piece of garbage
Your 100% Correct, and I still tell everyone that still has ( A real washer) like this one, and any other Retro washer and Dryer,
Try to get it fixed no matter the
Cost! The new stuff is a bunch of foolishness!
The old ones did what they were designed to do. Modern ones just get fancier but dont do much of a good job at washing
Exactly! They just get prettier and more fancy but these were a lot more practical &dependable
@@anthonymeans7439As far as looking better, that is debatable. Just the appearance of this machine alone and its control panel. There is nothing on the showroom floors today that even comes close in my personal opinion.
Your 100% Correct, and I wish
Everyone could own them again,
And enjoy them just like we use to!
I have left comment on other of your presentations. You are to be commended on your products loyalty. They are indeed tough older machines. 🎉
DANG❤ Wish I could find one at Estate sale
These suds here would cause first spin suds-locks in my 1992 Maytag, my 2018 Speed Queen, and my 1973 Sears Kenmore.
Beautiful machine. I don't particularly care for the agitator. Doesn't seem to have great rollover, but could be just because of the extra heavy duty pant matierial. What detergent was being used on this demonstration? The suds were amazing.
Rollover is fine and a bit softer ..more flexing with fabrics.
Now this weird arching with water with mixed loads have water of balance rocking left to right it does with certain loads and fabrics.
This agitator is thee only one that has a smooth post. No scrubbing lines. ✋💦
@@darrenk5023Old Maytag washers with the powerfin agitator also rocked the water back and forth. A simple straight vane is really all that's needed.
That bad boy is more quiet than my new one.
So satisfying! Loraine furniture can I see a large load of whites in this washer?
I hope to find an Avocado green washer. I have a late 60's Avocado green Maytag dryer already and it would be great to have a matching set.
=
love it
What's that water coming out from the side while it was washing?
It’s likely the 1968 900 series set that was owned by Redcarpetdrew, there is a detergent dispenser on the right side. The metal lid is visible on camera btw. You should use it in future :))
Wasn't he on that collector's show on TLC way back when where they showed his washing machines and dryers, vacuum cleaners, and small appliances?
Wow just WOW
Check out all those suds!
Congratulations Eugene ! 💦
Its beautiful.
Lots of options.
And timed dispensers.
Flexi Roto Flex Agitator .
The only NO base agitator from the Whirlpool/Kenmore Group. ®️
This has a step down wash fase i believe. That agitator was a attempt to be less wear on the fabric.
Eugine yes that needs attention.
A new belt and some tightning in the wig wag drive system should bring it basck to a healthy rhythm.
The belt is a bit worn .
I know you do fantastic teardowns and restore.
Can't wait to see that.
Just heard the time bleach pop.
Suds cake.
The woolens cycle gives you pauses great for dark colors for less fading.
I just return them in a higher spin speed or my extractor . And the permanent press is the classic dramatic drain and fill slow agitate in the wash phase on this model.
Happy Washing 💦🔹✋
That's the perfect woo woo sound.
For some reason I'm in the mood for chocolate
Nice machine what powder detergent were you using here on this load
Whirlpool built the best washer back then!
I agree with you. I was blessed to recently get a hold of a 1985 Whirlpool Supreme belt drive washer. In great condition and all the lovely sounds that Whirlpool Kenmore machines are known for and wash action that no machine compares with today except for maybe a Speed Queen TC5.
I so prefer the old school type washers
Me too!
Uh.... the Cadillac of washing machines.. Kenmore. "Good Stuff Maynard".. and notice it "RINSES" the clothes. Nice and quiet.. I'm surprised you can still find parts for these old washers.. I'd have that machine in a minute. NICE.. !!!!
Wow!
Beautiful
Why did you oversuds it like that? Inefficient for cleaning and death on the pump!
Washers of that time did that even with tiny amounts of detergent.
My mom incested on buying nothing but Fridgedar. Every time we got another color TV she insisted my dad buy RCA. From the time I was a little boy until she passed away from old age she would only buy Tide laundry detergent. She claimed all the other brands would leave soap residue behind on the clothes.
*insisted lol.
What's the rubber tip thing under the cap at the top for?
A scrubber for stains. Get the spot wet under the water spray during fill, dab some detergent on it, rub it on the scrubber cap. The nubs deteriorate with age and get sticky or break off. The scrubber on this machine is in excellent condition.
@@DADoESofTX Oh wow, awesome! Thanks for explaining!
Amazing
How did the washer fill so fast?😊
beautiful
Kenmore washers always over suds even with a small amount of detergent.
Yes, the machines of the 50s and '60s did. My mother's 63 Kenmore seem to over suds quite a bit, but I also think she was heavy-handed with the Tide....
@Nick-xu7wm: HE DETERGENTS I recommend in Kenmore and Whirlpool top loading washers.
@@patcola7335I strongly recommend HE DETERGENTS for these washers.
What detergent are you using?
Did you timelapse that fill? Or are you on a 1" line?
It surely doesn't take a lot of soap to make suds.
Hermosa lavadora.
Too much detergent…but great washer. I would love to have had this washer over a HE top load washer.
You use too much detergent. Make sure you read the read the label and use detergent for top loader

You need a new belt, or try adjusting yours.
Kenmore made by Whirlpool for Sears.
It's a 1968 model.
We had a 1968 Lady Kenmore washer and matching dryer it was avocado green!
I think you put too much soap 😆
"Lady Kenmore", because men didn't do laundry or anything else housework wise back in the day.
Too much soap.
No it is not enough soap.
so much wasted water, and so much soap needlessly. Thanks for helping destroy the planet buddy. Washing clothes isn't that serious, modern washers do a good job still and even better. Can't stop progress buddy.
Climate alarmist
"Progress" This washer has lasted 60 years. your washer will last 8. Now make the landfill happy!
Boy you've been propagandized.....
You think water is our biggest issue? Lmao. Water is basically the most renewable resource on the planet. Quit complaining your clothes probably smell like mildew 😂
@ I got a heat pump washer dryer all in one. Because I live in 2024 clown 🤡. Life is good with modern washers.
