    I was fortunate enough to have been raised by a aircraft mechanic (dad) who had practical and engineering experience. I became an Engineer, but brought his sensibility to the design aspect. Learned to work on machines myself, and not totally trust computer aided design without real hands on to test servicing of the equipment. All Engineers should apprentice with the folks in the field, and learn from them.

    You'd think the April Fool's joke I suffered this year would have been the 11" of fresh snow I woke up to that Saturday. Nope. It was the track drive wheel breaking on my Cub Cadet 3X 30 Trak about a third of the way into cleaning my driveway. But, thanks to your awesome video, I was easily able to replace both drive wheels and both tracks, which of course, guarantees that we won't see any more measurable snow this spring in Minneapolis. At least I know she'll be ready to go when the snow flies next season. Keep up the great work!

      @MrV2u  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel your pain brother. We had like no snow the entire season. Then we get like 13 inches and I made one pass and the blower started trying to do doughnuts in the middle of the street. To top it off all the neighbors were out watching me fight this thing all the way up the driveway then watch in shame as the garage door went down. Nothing beats a truck with hood height to it during snow storms lol. I’m glad the video could help you my friend. Wait till next year we’re both going to terrorize some snow drifts.

    I bough a brand new 30 inch 2015 model at a discount store. They had a few 26 inch and 30 inch models that all had cracks at the metal insert on the drive wheel. In assuming due to some sort of manufacturing defect of that run of drive wheels. These new machines with the proplem must have been sitting in a warehouse for years till this discount store acquired them and after a few were returned when the already cracked drive wheels broke apart they contacted mtd and were sent new drive wheels and instructions on how to install them. 26 inch models they had no problem swapping them but the 30s had too much thread lock on the bolts to remove the drive and they broke a couple bolts trying to remove them. They told me they did not want to sell me one because of this bolt issue before I explained to them likely it was threadlock on the bolts and some heat was needed to loosen it up. They then sold me one agreeing to let me install them and still have full warranty which mtd was honoring once the discount store replaced the drives. Long story short... Sorry.... The instructions they were given were not that good. They wanted you to have one person grab the tensioner arm with large channel locks and release tension while a second person pulled off the front idler wheel to release the track ..... Really???? Two people??? Lol. I found this video and thanks for posting. I would suggest though to not clamp vice grips on your shaft and scuff it up bring the teeth. I just exposed the drive gear inside as he did and I wedged one side of the plastic coated handles of channel locks pliers through a spoke on a big gear so when turning the shaft bolt out the handle rotates around and stops against the friction wheel slide shaft. Also rather than rotating the track trying to misalighn it and pop it off, for me it was easier to just grab the front idler wheel and and track and pull it off while pushing the track inwards at the tensioner to loosen it. Reassembly was same as this video.

      Great info brother. You are correct thread locker is always easier to deal with, with a little heat. I would have bought a couple from the discount store repaired the drives and tried to sell it for a profit. Enjoy your winter my friend and thanks again for the info. Hope it helps other people out.

    Appreciate the video- just blew out that drive wheel today on a borrowed Troy-Bilt... I had a question: would it be easier to remove the bolt on the drive wheel BEFORE removing the tracks as you can use the tracks to hold the wheel to remove the bolt? Maybe put the tracks on before putting the drive wheel bolt back on. Do you even need to undo the j-hooks if you take off the idler wheel instead?? Thanks!

    • @MrV2u
