It is. I bought 2 for my niece and nephew, and I had to make sure they worked because Christmas is over a month away and return policy.... They are a lot of fun. Toy grade or not, the full proportional steering and throttle and good gyro, lights (kids love lights) etc...
One thing about the "decent" toy grade cars. It's good to review them and find the gems because it's a way to get our kids into the hobby without spending a lot of dough. Sure for us purists they might "suck" but for a beginner, with no money, it might be the cat's a$$. It's like with motorcycles: "some" knock the young guy with the 25 yr old beat up ex500 and "not" a $40,000 harley or hayabusa but me? Good on you kid for riding. I'll give you the 2 finger wave everytime.

Some, like the wltoys 144001, don't need that much, just a brushless motor and speed controller and it's GOLD. At $79 CDN (gone way up now) it was a gem. I bought one when I had the coof just to mess around with and I was impressed. (and I don't impress easily)

5:16 the light selections remind me of my shop door bell I ordered from amazon. I think it's got 200 different chime selections. The prob? once you go down the rabbit hole, there's no backing up....if you hit number 30 and get bored and want to stick with Number 1, you have to reset the whole thing lol....I started, omg these are getting worse.....
I saw another YT review of the black one, in it they went to a skate park in the rain and the car did fabulous! Submerged fully multiple times and kept on going. It would be a great little drift basher for a child.

If you could figure out how to tune that brushless, the drag brake would work like an e brake and get the rear to swing out on coarse surfaces just like in the real drift cars. Oh, and yes, set up your drift track proper, like a big oval with sweeping corners.
I love the ldrc's and the only tweaking and upgrade I found really enhances it is a dasmikro gyro for like a tenner. Just that much smoother and less twitchy than the built in gyro.
Surpass/ Rocket sells a version of that esc for things like the miniZ. It's the "Pro28" version. I am running a mini B off it. More program options than the crawler version. Cheers on another awesome video!
Can you try setting the throttle trim on your brushless drift car so it’s constantly turning forwards at a very low speed? It should defeat the drag brake.
I understand drifting like 110 scale RC cars on carpet but these things are so light like you keep drifting on my carpet and it looks horrible and then every time you drift it on the concrete it looks really good and then you go back to the carpet
How many RC cars are to many? I’m getting a bit of a collection going, some stay in there box and others are used regularly. I think the collection should keep getting bigger, the mrs doesn’t agree ☹️

Regarding the drag brake on the brushless upgrade, they usually only work in only one direction. could you reverse the motor direction so that reverse is forward and then swap two motor wires to get the car back to forward motion.
fqd10 headlight mode, twice steer to the left light red blinks, 3 times left, only white goes on, twice to the right, red blinks, 3x to the right only red blinks.....👍🏻

Also there is a huge FB group of people modifying the LDRC drift cars. Community created body kits and mods. Lots of people are getting really good performance after modifying them a bit. Grscalittle medium scale drifters.
If you want a more scale feel and look with your r/c drift car, add weight. I built a 1:5 scale drift car. Yes it's TOTALLY badass. It has a gen2 boss 302 body that resembles a 70s trans am car. Big flares, louvers and shit it's rad. Anyway that car weighs a lot. You wouldn't believe me if I told you so i won't. Just know it behaves EXACTLY and I mean EXACTLY like a real car. It's unbelievably good. Angle is another huge mandatory thing. I was able to get 80 degrees of angle and I converted it from all wheel drive. It runs on a 12s brushm hobby wing system
Im personally working on a X01 and have about 65° of steering with the current edits I've done but has lot of room for more, In its current setup it drifts so well I was actually blown away for what it is and honestly I hate to say it but I almost enjoyed it more than my Sakura d5 Mr Ive been hoping the larger scales would be seeing some of the love from the rwd drift community and that we'd get a chassis, I'm hoping to make a couple videos to show how simple it was to convert Rwd and just how nicely they slide (Hoping it helps kick start a hobby grade large scale Rwd chassis from a reputable company)
I have a red cat ascend 18th scale and it a single speed transmission and it has a drag break but if I turn up the throttle trim even just a little bit it disables the drag break it still will stop if u don't turn up the throttle trim up to much but worse case it keeps rolling slightly Let me know if it works on that new brushless system you put in that drift car my name is Micheal and I watch your channel way more than Kevin taybolts channel and thank you for your channel I was going through some s**t and my new rc hobby keeps my mind busy from all the crap I've been and going thru . Tomley, I love your videos but you really need to do RC drift cars justice. Rc drift is my preferred avenue, and I fully believe once you drive a properly sorted RC drift car you may have a new perspective on it, seeing either of these cars drive isn't quite right. (I'm not from the UK but if you want the utmost experience, Slide House is the way to go, I'd love to see your experience with some full tilt stuff and seeing what cheap options get close!) Hello mate. I sold it a while back, but not due to any issues... I just didn't ride it much and when I did, I didn't trust the crazy drivers around my way. It's a great bike, although a little heavy and cumbersome to manoeuvre. I think there are some lighter options out there that would be better, although I can't say how good they are. @@TomleyRC Yes I've read that the weight of these bikes could be an issue and I've seen that the twin forks on the Ovia and Kommodo limits the turning circle. Check out the channel Apex RC Garage. He improved the performance of the NSX with a better cheap gyro and cutting excess plastic from the molded parts. He also worked on the other models as well, each having their own differences, and was still able to improve their performance.

sad that you did the blind mod to the better of the 3 LDRC cars. the NSX needs a fair amount of setup seeing as its older and the miata is a newer better made LDRC. but in this review no one will know. i suggest APEX RC GARAGE for more LDRC content.
The video was actually more about the toy grade 4wd… I’ve done a few videos of the LDRC. They were just a bit of a bonus added on to show the difference

Easy to appreciate RC cars these days compared to the mechanical esc recharging batteries for 12-16 hours brushed only days! I got myself a good condition 80,s metro rc jet hopper lately that i could never get as a kid not only is the steering non proportional it only works when you accelerate wasnt what my eight year old brain rememberd! The drag brake issue, couldn’t you dial up the throttle center position so it crawls forward on neutral transmitter, thus eliminating the brake?

Modding that miata with a Dasmikro V5 gyro makes a massive difference. It is my favourite car now. And I have many RC cars.

also with the LDRC you have to remove the inner wheel well for better turn radius on them. and make sure the front end suspension isnt binding

With very little tuning they're a lot of fun

sad that you did the blind mod to the better of the 3 LDRC cars. the NSX needs a fair amount of setup seeing as its older and the miata is a newer better made LDRC. but in this review no one will know. i suggest APEX RC GARAGE for more LDRC content.
The video was actually more about the toy grade 4wd… I’ve done a few videos of the LDRC. They were just a bit of a bonus added on to show the difference

haha.... takes a while to get used to it. Everyone has a different opinion, which is perfectly okay with me. Entitlement though, that's pretty common in the comments, I either ignore or try some humour lol
@@TomleyRC the power of humour is priceless got me through having cancer twice as a kid. Easy to appreciate RC cars these days compared to the mechanical esc recharging batteries for 12-16 hours brushed only days! I got myself a good condition 80,s metro rc jet hopper lately that i could never get as a kid not only is the steering non proportional it only works when you accelerate wasnt what my eight year old brain rememberd! Not sure if you got them in England cheers mate take care🤟😎
