And also wouldn’t cause motion sickness since you’re not virtually moving around in a vr game with this.
Better than flat screens for sure. Focal distance is several feet, not several inches. Yes it's technically millimeters away from the eyes but it's the focal distance that your brain interprets which affects eyestrain.
I forsee many companies bringing similar products like this. This is fantastic for the price. I feel products like these will significantly reduce the demand for the Apple Vision pro.
I mean, we gotta start somewhere, right? Meta might want to combine this tech with their new Ray-Ban smart glasses, for their third gen smart glasses and optimalize it as well. I think you're better off waiting for the fourth or fifth gen before getting any type of smart glasses. Great job on the review of this thing
They aren't AR glasses (AR means Augmented reality and they don't have any Augmented Reality features). They are glasses that offers a screen, without any fancy VR tech. And as such, the concept has it's uses. But the screens are too small. And the block-out should be attached to the glasses, so it is more a case of just flipping it up for the few occasions when you might need to grab that gaming controller, or remote to control playback... sure you could just take them off, if it was possible to design them to be easier to take off, and we are probably a couple of years away from that. I would really love to have a pair of glasses that just offers a big screen. And at this point, the Vision Pro, still seems to be the best for that, in terms of image quality, and with the potential of playback of 3D films, but they are unnecessarily complex, with the sensors, the fake eyes and all of that, which makes sense for some VR functionality and for use in an office or similar. But as just something to watch media on to replace a large TV/Projector, or for portable media playback when travelling or to take with you, to make sure you have access to a big screen no matter where you go on holiday or for work, the Vision Pros are too complex. And I'm unsure if any non-pro version would just drop those features, to just work as media glasses. And I would not expect a non pro version to come with the same quality of screens... But perhaps they could do a Apple TV Glasses Pro, for that.
I'm more interested in the quality. I think this setup (glass just displays) is the best solution, and it's the other devices that are the issue. It would be nice to have an option for battery pass-through that would change both devices, though! I'm sure if something like this becomes popular, that would happen. It's all about the quality? Is there a screen door effect? What is it like with the front panel on. I care more about travelling than I do the fixed positions. Steam deck and Phone seem like the win. I wonder if DEX can work?
The xreal and steam deck subreddit already widely use either the RedMagic or Viture charge and play adapter that powers the glasses and charges the device at the same time.
The switch doesn't need the dock- though it still is a bit cumbersome - If you have USB-C to HDMI cable, you can put it through the HDMI adapter. it isn't perfect, but it works.
I was curious about that, I’m not sure how he thinks you connect the switch to a tv if the only port on the device doesn’t have video output capabilities.
He shows the size of the virtual screen. And, to my eyes it looks to be about 16 inches. But, it’s taking up nearly all of his field of view so it would appear to be huge. But, as far as demonstrating how big the screen is, that is very unclear. Also, when Xreal talks about this they always talk about the virtual screen size (it’s something like 107 inches or whatever though this changes based on what you’ve got it connected to.
There's going to be an optional "Beam" device sold separately. This device will act as the smart brains for the glasses for resizing/reorienting the screens, as well as easier 3rd party device connection and additional battery. Field of view is 54° or something close. So the produced image could be that large, but when using my meta quest 2 to do similar tasks it's fairly comfortable to make the simulated screen roughly 50". These would be far more comfortable than the meta quest tho seeing as they're only 2oz.
The biggest issue is the field of view isn’t big enough. So if your face isn’t a certain parameter it will be very uncomfortable and you won’t get a clear screen. They really need to increase the size of the screen to fix the issue. The nose piece does help but it only put pressure on your nose and that isn’t idea. Also my glasses have already got a crack in the side from normal wear. I did finally get in contact with support and they seem to be willing to fix them. But the quality needs to be addressed or make the parts easily replaceable. But with all that said. I do love them and recommend them. The plane ride and passing time at work have really helped. Just some tweaking and this thing will be gold.
I sure wish he had spent more than 5 seconds on what the glasses are like to work on. How are they after 2-4 hours? How are they after 6-10 hours? Is this a realistic monitor replacement.
The idea and functionality looks great. And as much as it solves quite a few of my problems at the moment, it looks kinda goofy when worn. Like I’m wearing it, but it’s floating. I may just wait until something more slim or something to actually get. But this review is helpful.
Hello, I'm a Brazilian man and I really liked your video. The explanation you give us about these glasses is very good. Congratulations! Could you answer me a question? Is it possible to watch 3D movies with these glasses? If the answer is positive, how to do this? Thank you and once again, congratulations!
The thing that intregs me the most is the large screen. This seems to be the only one that talks about headphones, plus it will connect to both Apple products and Windows. I am interested.
I do music production at home, I have a 32 inch monitor on my desk, but I would actually like to have another monitor, these glasses look like they would help with that if I wanted to open up another window from the software I use.
I bought these last night, after disappointment with the Rokid glasses, which require all sorts of gymnastics and various third party screen mirroring apps to see anything from iPhone or Android. Worse, I cannot watch downloaded Netflix with them from a phone. My entire motivation was to be able to have several movies available for 14 hour flights. From what I've read, Nreal may resolve all of these gripes.
Cool tech idea. I hope the technology progresses to be better with less cables needed. One question I have is can someone with vision issues use it. I am nearsighted and wear glasses every day. VR headsets are iffy for me because of the screen door effect and the weight on my glasses so the XReal/NReal glasses should be better.
This video has bad timing. It also seems like it was reviewed, but the product itself wasn’t researched. This is like reviewing and critiquing the PS5/XBOX for the first time when the Pro version comes out at the end of the month. This month Xreal is releasing the Beam which allows users to enlarge the screen at will up to 330 inches as well as make it stationary so it doesn’t move when the glasses move. It also makes connecting to the Switch a one cable affair as opposed to the dongle mess you saw on this video. It also it has Airplay if you want to use that as an option to display IPhones. It’s been available to pre-order for at least 6 weeks now.
4:06 - I'm a bit confused about when you need the adapter. If your phone or tablet already supports video out via usb-c, do you still need this adapter?
I'd give it bone conduction speakers for one thing. That's just common sense. They are tiny, no one else can hear the sound, and they don't block your ears. 2nd, I'd use smart-tint so that you can control the tint of the glasses...that's another easy one to do. Then the software can control the tint instead of putting a cover over them to black them out and look like a blind person. It could even be programmed to automatically adjust to how bright it is outside...again pretty simple to do. There's a TON of other stuff I would do, also have a brilliant idea for a very simple handheld device that would act as a mouse / touchpad and make the input like 100x better. I had written all these ideas out like 8 years ago for the perfect smart glasses. I had all the ideas and it was glorious, just didn't have the resources to actually make the things. Also appearance is another big part of it...they made these things so unaesthetic. With the hardware they are using they could have made them far more stylish. If they did this right this would be HUGE. Imagine if Steve Jobs were alive and created these things. They would be the hottest product right now. They wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. Finally people would start getting rid of their hunchbacks and messed up necks. I really hope they make improvements to these. TBH though they are already pretty damn cool for that price point.
Fyi i'm using these right now on MacOS because they have an app which allows AR multi monitor setup.. it's amazing, i'm a professional software engineer too so coding can absolutely be done.. just need to bump up the size a bit. Love these glasses especially that my wife and I can watch two different things while still being next to eachother lol (me using the glasses her using the tv)
I want to get one to plug into my laptop to do work on it. I am not clear, is the battery life depending on the device you're plugging it in? For example, if it is plug into a laptop, and laptop plug into an outlet. That mean you will never run out of juice correct?
i asked them (a 4K version). They answered they don't know. But it's like asking to Apple what are the spec of the next Macbook Pro ... don't expect an answer 🙂
Qualcomm Snapdragon AR2 processor is out and all AR glasses manufacturers are already working on the next big thing. As a lightweight mobile display, you can't go wrong jumping in on this early.
We really need to figure out the cable problem and a solution, NReal practically copied Google Glass with a glass prism and a ruby coding platform with C++
They already have the "beam" an upcoming powered compute unit for the glasses. According to Xreal it should make connections a lot simpler, but the best experience will always be using a cable.
I got them, usfortunatly your head has to stay still, which is imposible since we are use to move our head all the time to see better the corners of a screen, now, I pre-order the beam device, that is going to be revolutionary,.
It's a big step in the right direction. To analogize, it's like we're in the 80's of PC where things are more of a cool novelty but not practical enough for everyone to replace their day's workflow with yet. But in the next 10 years, AR will be like the 90's computers where everyone will start using it but it won't yet be fully refined. Only after the 2nd decade will it be so refined that it becomes now seemlessly integrate into society. So that's around 2040's.
AR glasses are much lighter than VR and far easier to put on and take off. Also, my Quest 2 sits unused because I'm too lazy to wash my oily face first before I use it. I don't have to worry about that with AR glasses. I use my Xreals as a mobile display, which is what most people use it for. It dwarfs my TV and and hand held screens and I can lay completely flat on my bed or recliner in a relaxed state.
Usb c ipads don’t have to have an adapter. I am disappointed that this review the beam, but I think this will fix a lot of the complaints in this review and in real life.
From other reviews, it looks like they support prescription inserts. I think they include the insert frames, and then the user can get lenses made to fit them (like they do for scuba masks and military gas masks). But they're probably awkward to wear with normal glasses. One of the competitors has diopter adjustments built into the glasses, which might be enough for people that don't have an astigmatism.
The Beam solves this. It's another product XReal will be offering that enhances it to act more like a wireless smart display. Resizeable stable 3dof displays, easier connection control.
Don't use third party docks with the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo's update 5.0 several years ago bricked my switch and countless others. Other than that, good review.
NGL, the nreal glasses, got me hyped, and I was planning to get one until Apple announced their Vision Pro. Yes, the nreal, now called the XREAL, is cheap and light. However, the Vision Pro offered what I wanted in an AR/VR headset. It will also fit perfectly in my Apple ecosystem. XREAL will still be my second option for AR/VR experiences despite it not being either in an ideal situation.
xreal glasses may stay in the competition, that's a question of pros ans cons. Apple Vision Pro will certainly offer some great surprises and new usages BUT the thing i really need now is the ability to have the same "big screen" that sit on my desk, external monitor of my Macbook Pro ... but have it everywhere. Both of them allows it, but not the same specs. Xreal glasses are limited to a 1920x1080 screen ... too limited for me. Vision Pro is limited to 4K which fit my needs. On the other hand, Xreal glasses are lighter and you can wear them in real life without people looking at you like you are Robocp Apple Vision Pro ... is very expensiv, not available since months, and you can't wear it everywhere No one is the perfect solution, the ideal would be a 4K version of Xreal glasses
@@alexandrevery I have to be honest. Life is living from paycheck to paycheck, and after some complex reasoning from wishful thinking, it would be nice to have the Vision Pro, but it is over my budget. My second option became my first, and I bought the Xreal Air because of the new Nebula Mac OS beta app, which allowed for three monitor displays. I was pleasantly surprised at the 400 nits of sharp brightness and the glasses' lightweight. It doesn’t have the unique feature the Vision Pro offers, but it does just what I want. I can use the Xreal Air to be productive or enjoy a movie, and the battery life is dependent on the source of the attached device (MacBook, iPad, or iPhone). I am happy for the Xreal Air purchase until I can afford the Vision Pro in the future,
What happens if you use glasses to see? Can you put these over ur regular glasses or is it like the oculas that you have to buy 3rd party prescription lens
5:17 - Patently untrue. I literally plug my Switch to an USB-C monitor and it works seamlessly. What is needed here, however, is power for the screen, which the Switch does not provide.
What if you make a pair of glasses like in those two movies. They live and Thirteen Ghost. You change the frequency in see through different dimensions.
Is there any reason why the optical lens couldn't be the same size as the glasses lens so that there isn't the bottom of the lens in the middle of your vision? They're probably just getting enough sales and not changing anything.
I am legally blind, and only have very little site. I can’t watch TV regularly, but something like this would change my life. Unfortunately, it’s too expensive.
I heard that with the steam deck you can't "fix" the screen. I mean if you move your head the screen stay in front of you. To me it's a limitation. I prefere having the screen simulated like it was somewhere fixed in the room with a "switch button" to navigate between fixe screen and moving screen.

Apple is definitely going to steal this concept. If that's your main concern. They just never jump first when a new tech trend happens.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 steal this concept ??? 🙄
I changed my idea about the device because the Xreal Beam. Looking forward for your review.
Great review. Much appreciated that you also talked about some difficulties that you found.
That's what the Beam is for. The ability to pin, zoom, and resize the display eliminates all edge visibility issues for those that experience it.
I'm delighted I watched before placing an order! 😄
Surprised you didn't mention the 3D stereoscopic functionality as they're great for watching 3D movies and playing 3D games.
There are very few 3D content out there and since he is not used to have a 3d capable device he probabily don't even know of this possibility.
I sure wish he had spent more than 5 seconds on what the glasses are like to work on. How are they after 2-4 hours? How are they after 6-10 hours? Is this a realistic monitor replacement.
7:27 This was just 6 months ago, and it's a nice start... Not long before all this won't need a external device and be just as light at 70grams...🤩😍🤤
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Nreal glasses. I take them everywhere!
These glasses look really cool i might be considering buying a pair of them
I bought these last night, after disappointment with the Rokid glasses, which require all sorts of gymnastics and various third party screen mirroring apps to see anything from iPhone or Android. Worse, I cannot watch downloaded Netflix with them from a phone. My entire motivation was to be able to have several movies available for 14 hour flights. From what I've read, Nreal may resolve all of these gripes.
And finally...?
Matter would be great addition to SmartGlasses
i could stay in bed all day and have this on my face and watch movies a whole sunday lol
Traveling with a console is wild to me. I deff am not a big enough gamer for that to make sense to me
Amazing review a lot more detailed then other videos I have watched. Keep it up
Thank for bejng the only one to talk ab it as a work device
You should update with the beam which solves many of your issues mrntionef
How big does the screen "feel"? For example, like a 65" tv at 6' away, like a cinema screen?
Fyi i'm using these right now on MacOS because they have an app which allows AR multi monitor setup.. it's amazing, i'm a professional software engineer too so coding can absolutely be done.. just need to bump up the size a bit. Love these glasses especially that my wife and I can watch two different things while still being next to eachother lol (me using the glasses her using the tv)
I want to get one to plug into my laptop to do work on it. I am not clear, is the battery life depending on the device you're plugging it in? For example, if it is plug into a laptop, and laptop plug into an outlet. That mean you will never run out of juice correct?
thanks sound good for your techology. are you sure it compatible with Windows Mixed Reality from PC ?
be great if a pair of glasses could be a camera monitor. just be really cool
I need a 120" Sean.
No battery is by design. it makes it way way lighter, and the battery won't degrade
Nice review... but if it doesn't work with the Nintendo switch... I guess I need a portable steam deck.
The best review I have seen!!!!
You're using the wrong adapter for all that. Go look up the Nubia RedMagic Adapter. It's DP over USB-C with USB-C charging.
No battery in the glasses is actually the reason I want a pair of it.
The Question is when will there be a next Version of XREAL?
Plus they need to ship Worldwide and not only the USA
i asked them (a 4K version).
This actually seems like something useful ...
What about connecting multiple glasses for a movie night or to listen to music???
why does he say and its written Nreal when it the title says Xreal?
I think the technology needs a lot of work but this is definitely better than using a screen in VR headsets. Also it would be good for xr/mr.
Wonder if you can make the lenses prescription lenses
Have you guys seen that meta and mediatek have joined hands to make some Ar glasses?
We really need to figure out the cable problem and a solution, NReal practically copied Google Glass with a glass prism and a ruby coding platform with C++
They already have the "beam" an upcoming powered compute unit for the glasses. According to Xreal it should make connections a lot simpler, but the best experience will always be using a cable.
I definitely like the price since they are on sale right now but I would pay a little more for a 1440p 120hz display
Questions to the users, do you continue using this glasses after the novelty has worn off? Or is this sort of like VR headsets?
AR glasses are much lighter than VR and far easier to put on and take off. Also, my Quest 2 sits unused because I'm too lazy to wash my oily face first before I use it. I don't have to worry about that with AR glasses. I use my Xreals as a mobile display, which is what most people use it for. It dwarfs my TV and and hand held screens and I can lay completely flat on my bed or recliner in a relaxed state.
AR glasses are my dream come true, the only thing I need now is higher resolution and pixel density, can't wait for the future of AR glasses.
Usb c ipads don’t have to have an adapter. I am disappointed that this review the beam, but I think this will fix a lot of the complaints in this review and in real life.
I wish he had spoke about what these are like to use with glasses. I hear that’s an issue for people who wear glasses.
You failed to mention it has NO motion sensor, so the image moves whenever you move your head instead of remaining in the same spot.
The Beam solves this. It's another product XReal will be offering that enhances it to act more like a wireless smart display. Resizeable stable 3dof displays, easier connection control.
The issues regarding the cables feel like more of the output device problems as everything nowadays should be able to output to USB c
Is it the gazing stability built-in? If it's shaking while we move our head, it would be fatigue.
I just wish it were a 4k display, the 1080p doesn’t always cut it
What about when im walking like if im going for a walk and want to watch TH-cam how good is it?
Do you think the xbox and ps5 controllers will throw in video output on the usbc that way we can plug in the AR glasses portably?
Excellent review!
Don't use third party docks with the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo's update 5.0 several years ago bricked my switch and countless others. Other than that, good review.
When is the rayneo coming out. That's all I wanna know
It's impossible to find the USB C TO HDMI adapter in my country, sadly.
The glasses are pretty cool but the host is crazy hot!
On the other hand, Xreal glasses are lighter and you can wear them in real life without people looking at you like you are Robocp
Apple Vision Pro ... is very expensiv, not available since months, and you can't wear it everywhere
No one is the perfect solution, the ideal would be a 4K version of Xreal glasses
I am happy for the Xreal Air purchase until I can afford the Vision Pro in the future,
Thanks for your video. I decided its not a good buy.
Well at least it’s not as large and expensive as Apple’s $3500 headset
Cord is a deal breaker
Looking for something like this but more form fitting.
If they can find away to add a battery and Bluetooth 🔥🔥🔥
This seems like the title should be “review for a new charging game” led with a lot of frustrating wait times.
Damn I came for the glasses but stayed for the hunk 😍😍😍 He might be to sexy for tech
Probably gonna wait a few more years til the technology is a bit better.
Few more years, it's not really that expensive to try
@@maimsahb yea but its just not appealing enough atm
Is there any reason why the optical lens couldn't be the same size as the glasses lens so that there isn't the bottom of the lens in the middle of your vision? They're probably just getting enough sales and not changing anything.
I am legally blind, and only have very little site. I can’t watch TV regularly, but something like this would change my life. Unfortunately, it’s too expensive.
So say you are watching a movie on a iPhone are you watching it on a iPhones screen just right in front of you? Or is it like a tv screen
How’s the response time?
If I wear glasses to see can I use it ?
I heard that with the steam deck you can't "fix" the screen. I mean if you move your head the screen stay in front of you.
To me it's a limitation. I prefere having the screen simulated like it was somewhere fixed in the room with a "switch button" to navigate between fixe screen and moving screen.
Xreal Beam allows this and it works with Steam Deck.
1080p per eye is actually worse because it's closer. you have lower pixel density
Is that is? If the phone or tablet support usb type c? You mean any? Even the chipset is exynos from mid range phone it work finely?
Hello, I would like to know if this glasses works fine with Samsung Dex or Ready for from Motorola, I will apreciate any information about, thanks in advance
Can i put clear lenses in it, i want to use this at work inside, also how close does it sit to your face compared to normal glasses
