This was great! Did this today on my Suzuki gsxf 600 and it was leaking like crazy before but now absolutely nothing comes thru! 👍
Not so loud on the music please! Drives me nuts when I have to keep adjusting the volume between quiet talking and super-loud music...
Hi sir, how did it hold up?
For anyone also watching this, a good alternative to regular spray paint is tractor paint. Stuff is super durable and relatively inexpensive. I've had frame repairs on my car sprayed by the welder, and they still look good after 2 or 3 New England winters
What a great idea, Dan! Hope she holds for you forever now. Just wanted to also compliment you on your editing and production work once again- first rate, Mate! 🏍👍🏍
Gary A thank you again Gary it’s good to see your comments come through
i use low voltage and zinc from old battery to replate the area of the ding to cover the open pores and then just use good quality superglue , yes it lasts a very long time no problem
I’m trying to use the glue method, but when I try and cut it off the whole lot comes out.
@@yourtubeafried loctite 401 works very well. how long do you let it cure after application ?
Hi, that's a great idea, never thought about it but I fixed my washing machine drum with that stuff and it's still working six years later hahah. hope it does the same good job !! thanks, Gus
Really interested to see if this fixed it. Can you reply on this one please?
Anything other than stripping and re-chroming is only going to be a temporary fix at best, if it works!
I decided that when i discovered my forks on my project bike were beginning to flake and pitting was just beginning to appear that , instead of going with rubbing down the high spots and removing even more of the protective layer of chrome which was coming off anyway, I would have them re-chromed right from the start. I Shopped around and found prices from £150- £270 for the pair ($290-$520AU) so its worth looking around and saving yourself the grief of having to do it again in six months!
Around here new fork tubes (non OEM) are about the same cost as getting them rechromed! Way to go IMHO.
learned a neat idea recently, you can grow crystals of metal with electrolysis so my idea is to use a similar power range that is slightly weaker with modeling clay to hold the solution over a damaged area and then drop in a strip of nichrome to just fill the pits with that and then polish it down
Yeah! Looking forward to see the final result
I’ll be trying this on my dirt bike
Very useful guide mate. I might do it for my old kz400
Really wish I had a garage to work in.
Interested to see how this works out! A great tip if it does! :-) And Dan, the file should go opposite of the pipe to get that round shape move! Remember? ;-)
I'm very curious about if this has worked or not? I seem to have the same issues on my 93 FZR600
i wouldve thought that epoxy would be too thick to penetrate all the small pitting and gain proper adhesion. i might try this, but with superglue for the smaller pitting and epoxy for the bigger pits.
Thanks for sharing; this information is helpful.
How long did this fix last? :)
“I have a certain set of skills” - Liam Neeson and Cafe Racer Garage....
M&M M&M haha never thought of that when I said it. Great pick up :) 👍
And the Locktite? did you use it and how does it work?
Another great video cheers mate.
Looks good so far, hope it hold up for you.
is it possible to use steel epoxy??
This is amazing 👍
Defonitely a very good way to solve this issue.
But will the epoxy wear away in the long run?
What are your experiences?
It will take a while but prep the area as best you can and it will last as long as it can, remember its just a quick fix
I have heard that for a temporary fix you can use nail varnish dont know how long it would it would last
'Barter' is a great way to avoid taxes and price hikes.
Not just for bikes.
How did it hold up? Or is there anyone else who has tried this?
Is this repair still working?
Has it solved the leak?
@@CafeRacerGarage cool thanks my 1991 nighthawk 750 fork tubes are leaking and used they are impossible to find and new its over 800$ cad...Ill certainly give this a try, thanks!
@@Speedytrip where are you located? Re chrome is your best option but it’s not cheap
@@CafeRacerGarage Yeah they are not horrible, just a few scratches that leak. Your trick should work and it doesn'T even have to be beautiful as I'll be putting fork boots over them to protect them from further damage.
Some used bike sellers use tin to fix this. I don't how long it can last though.
how well did it hold up?
Ruben Garcia not bad, but it still will not be as good as a rechrome if it’s in the budget I’d recommend chrome even tho this did work for how long I don’t know
I got this problem before and i have replaced new seals but it still leaked. I’m not sure if i have a bent fork, how can i diagnose? The fork is smooth on the outside btw.
T Phas that’s very interesting, are the seals in the right way. Try looking for a bent fork with a steel ruler on the side of the tube, or maybe the seals just need replacement if you haven’t done them. Other than that I’m unsure brother
I hope you could help me with this:
I did exactly the same as on the vid. However, when i try to remove the glue it doesn't stick on to the hole.
It just removes everything.
I tried superglue as well as 'steel epoxy'.
Hey mate, so did you end up doing a video about the forks back on the bike and if the epoxy has held up over time?
I'll try this with my bycicle fork
Music is too loud compared to your voice.
It's surprising how cheap powercoating is, I used to go with a bag full of stuff and they always said about £20-30 when I was expecting around £100
Sorry I realise this video is about 6 months old, I've got a bit of catching up to do!
Loving the channel by the way.
You've inspired me to get a welding set after years of putting it off. Keep it up 👍
Spaghetti Legs that’s awesome, no worries about the date on the video 😋 I’ve got plenty More videos to come so stay tuned:)
Best tip is to bring the parts and say there is no hurry, just put it into next batch of same color and use common colors like black. This way they can coat it while doing parts for big companies and such hence cutting the work time to heat oven etc so its much cheaper. Same thing with parts you need to machined, find local smaller shop and tell them to do it when they have spare time, so time pressure, just say you will be coming back in say week or month to check them up and say time estimate you would like to get them done so those wont just sit there for eternity, or next cleaning day. Best sign is if they put them into box or just ticket on them that ID the owner or job number.
Sounds like you're living next to an exotic aviary. Tell us about the wildlife near you Dan.
I have many birds in my area but one in particular breeds at a certain time of year and the chicks are very loud and go all day long, not the best for filming lol 😂 I think they’re actually called Australian noisy miners and you can understand why.
Too bad for the garbage noise !
So I 'm currently at 1:40 in the video. So far, this sounds like a horrible idea. Almost like some advice that a bitter and resentful mechanic would give in a forum. I'm very interested to see how this goes. Hoping it works. The only saving grace is your attitude and inegrity with this channel. I just don't see your viewers as the type to offer you a giant pile of 'fail' just for a laugh.
It is a horrible idea if you dont have Dan's set of skills, tools and machinery. He always says this is a budget build and I love to watch him but the fact is not everyone have his passion, the stuff in his garage or enough money to buy it. I have a build on my channel which I made within a really reeeally low budget, even my camera is shitty. I just had the will and passion to do it .. but I sure would prefer to build the bikes with the budget of Dan's channel, so its more a matter of perspective after all, if he had a bigger budget I'm sure he would change tubes but the glue works.
