I have a 97 Azure. Yes all the roofs drop that hard. It's absolutely crazy. I think the problem was Pininfarina (who built the roof for Bentley) actually modelled the roof off a Mercedes R129 500SL. Even 10 of the actuators that control pushing hydraulic fluid in the Bentley are actually Mercedes R129 actuators. But my guess is that the extra weight of the Bentley roof has meant the mercedes design was somewhat overwhelmed.....which is why it crashed down. Its terrible for a car that was probably one of the most expensive production cars of the time. Symptomatic of thin R&D and testing budgets of low volume manufacturers. Sometimes they get it wrong.....and this top is wrong. Mind you, I owned a R129 Mercedes and I always felt that roof was a bit loud, but nowhere near as loud as the Bentley when it crashes down. I always use my hand to break its fall and reduce the speed it comes down. Aaaah the joys of rare cars

We had to rush due to family matters and for once, my dad relinquished the wheel to get some rest in the massive back seat. I took over. Started chatting with my mother and before I knew it, 6 hrs passed and I was so comfortable I didn't even notice. Usually my ass gets numb after 2 hours and I get out stiff as a board. I set the cruise at 110 kph and it just purred along never kicking down to go up hills. You could steer with one finger since the power steering was SO boosted.
They do NOT make vehicles like that anymore, nothing even comes close to be honest.
Now with that being said, the engine would literally run forever and was easy to maintain, but it had pitiful hp for the size and didn't get that great fuel econ either. But it would run. I bet the car is long since dead but the engine would still be running today if properly maintained.

That Bentley is a fine car, Hoovie. Just a thought from an old(er) man in London; have you ever thought (a) of looking for a car, and then (b) BEFORE YOU BUY IT, take the Wizard with you for a grown-up opinion of the vehicle BEFORE you purchase it ??
In fact, Mrs Wizard or even Mrs Hoovie would probably pick you better cars and get you a much better deal !!!!!!!!!!!
I'd offer the Bentley to The Wizard before work commences as it nearly matches his Yacht !!!!!! And he can clearly afford it, as you probably paid for most. if not all of it !!!!
Still love these video's; Live Long and Prosper, and Stay Safe too.

TOP TIP TO WIZARD & HOOVIE !! You really need to start looking into Citroën stuff if you are going to tinker with that RR/Bentley stuff. Green oil means LHM=Citroën based system. Let me give you one example. A Citroën XM from the same age is common to leaky hydraulic pump if the customer hasn´t maintaned it properly. The part needed in that case is two O-rings that cost about two dollars! And to keep it from happening again, it´s needed to test and or fill/replace those accumulators. Regarding accumulators, I pay around 40 bucks for them. I cannot say that the same parts will work for the English stuff, never worked with them. But they licensed the whole system from Citroën and the accumulators/spheres hasn´t changed alot since 1954! Although, I´ve never worked on RR/Bentley, I am pretty sure that you would probably do just as good with a pump from Citroën XM. With the price difference you can probably let Rolex build you some brackets to make it fit. The function has to be the same. Prove me wrong and I design you a custom system with 100% Citroën parts that do everything exactly the same.

4:45 'american land yacht.. just can't buy'em anymore'.. Especially right up til the tailend of 1980s, really miss how tough and brute some of these were. You were able to obtain heft and size without leaning into the high luxury segment. Many were body on frame V8s, which practically have the bones of modern era big3 pickups. Today- people only have the option to grab a 2500 or 3500 1/2 or 3/4T truck although you do get fancier drivetrain choices now.
Think if there is ever an equivalent to a 2021 Grand Marquis it would be something like a Ford Expedition max- and probably share a similar wheelbase!

The Azure needs brake spheres replacement. Do a pump down test to check pressures. Start engine and run for a couple of minutes. Turn of engine but leave ignition on. Pump brake pedal and count number of pumps before warning lights come on. Less than ten, spheres must be replaced. Worth doing rear suspension spheres at the same time. A straight forward job and not overly expensive. Checking AC servos with engine off is pointless. Car needs to running and up to temp
