Doug is the type of guy to compare everything's size to a Volvo XC90.
And he comes out favorably.

I think for europeans, especially, this makes a lot of sense. More relevant than using a Suburban as a yardstick, I'd say.
This is the kind of car where even now, 22 years later, a 4-speed auto is probably the right transmission.
I agree, enough of the 8 and 10 speeds. 5 speed or less is good.
5 speed manual shouldve been an option or standard. The only way one can get the most out of that engine. The 4 speed is an unreliable dog that steals half of the power.

That was my uncle’s car for a while! He owned it between Jon Claude and the next owner but used a dealers license so I don’t think he was ever a “registered owner”. He’s the one that put all the money into the convertible top before Hoovie had it and that windshield latch really is SO loud when it unlatches in person. Sounds like a gunshot 🥴

I think the Min Oil is telling you minimum engine oil level rather than mineral oil. This is a gauge that has been in many Bentley and Rolls Royce vehicle to serve the purpose of checking the engine oil level.
Came to say this too. Other cars Doug has reviewed have also had gauges that perform double duty, so it was funny to me that he literally thought the car used mineral oil instead of just conventional motor oil 😄

So I have tried to find information on this, and its a little hard, but Doug may actually be right. I can see Bently people talking about checking their Mineral Oil level in the car, and how it slowly returns to the tank, so you need to check when the car hasn't been running for a while etc. It seems its used for either brake fluid or suspension components. Its very weird and not very clear.

It was WIDEBODY! 5 of 5! Ther was only five of them wider than a normal Azure! It is pretty special!!!

This isn't correct. There are way more then 5 wide body Azures. I've had more than 2 at my shop at the same time. When Bentley says it's a specific number. Take that with a grain of salt. For instance the Bentley Arnage T-24 Mulliner has a placard that says it's X of 24. Yet there were 40 produced.

This is one of the best and most honest reviews of the 01' Bentley Azure. Hats off to Doug De Muro and Tyler Hoovie for being so transparent on the pros and cons of this turn of the century land yacht.
There’s this Polish guy (Patryk Mikiciuk on youtube) who restored a wrecked one recently, the nice thing about it is, that it was a limited edition wide body 1 of 5.
They’ve done a nut and bolt renovation and found how imperfect it was made at the factory (especially that wide body), it looks perfect now.
The Azure is really a really cool-looking luxury convertible. I don't know anything about Bentleys from this era, so it's cool to learn more things about them
I'd have to agree, it is a grand looking car. I'd even say it's better looking than the Rolls it shares a platform with.
This is the era when rolls Royce and Bentley were one company

Small trivia: as well as the hard top Continental and full convertible Azure, there was also a Continental Sedanca Coupe, which had a lift-out roof panel above the front seats.

9:41 hood is not British English for roof. Roof is British English for roof. They're analogizing the car's retractable top with a hood on a coat. Both go up and down to cover your head from the rain, as needed.
The interior under the sunlight is a masterpiece, the beautiful leather combined with the high quality shiny wood and chrome pieces shining is so beautiful to look at.
The navy blue with tan or brown interior is the perfect combination. Honorable mention would also be dark green with caramel guts also. 😂

Even funnier is this isn't the first time he's reviewed a car with this feature. He's done a few bentleys and rolls from this era.

My neighbour down the road has a 2009 Bentley Brooklands and it’s the coupe successor to this car, obscenely long like a Cadillac DeVille. It’s a joy to spot, so rare in today’s world for people to want to own something like it.

My grandfather (and later I) had a 1972 Buick Centurion convertible. This Bentley reminds me a lot of that land barge, including the GM transmission and noisy automatic roof. :)
It also had the power rear quarter-window silliness. It really feels like Bentley didn't bother to do anything to modernize the luxury convertible experience thirty years later.
The700R4 GM transmission is a piece of shit.
You are going way back there. That is a proper land barge. It's all relative. This Bentley will feel like a powerful and nimble sports can in comparison!

Exactly. My 03 Expedition has an LCD screen in the gauge cluster AND cooled seats (heated as well). How did a nearly $400k Bentley not have those things. Yet my $46k 2 year newer Expedition did?
Bentley has no money to modernise because their number of sales was so low because of their price. Until they got bought up by Volkswagen.
Coupe version of this (the Brookland) is for me the greatest Bentley ever built. It’s so beautiful
Azure already reviewed by Dough for once before but never mind because for me personaly Azure is THE MOST MAJESTIC CAR of them all ever.....absolute TOP image cruiser for summer wofty ride around countryside...owning such status wheels describes "I don't care....because I don't have to anymore...I am just cruisin'"
That was the more modern version. He wanted to do this one because it was an early one.
The roof folding up near your head would drive me nuts and would have to be fixed but otherwise, pretty impressive shape. I’m sure someone will have a blast with this cruiser.

We live in a simulator. I was just watching Dougs video with his old DuPont Registry mags talking recession era prices. So last night I got to thinking and looking at my old DuPonts. I stumbled across an old Bentley Azure. I tell my friend, I really only like 90s Bentleys. Boom today wake up to Doug and this classic!!! 🤯
This was my absolute favorite car back in the day, and it’s still one of my all-time faves. It really was an amazing car with incredible presence and prestige. I remember when I first saw one in person parked outside an AJ’s Fine Foods in Scottsdale and I was in absolute awe of it. I couldn’t believe someone would park a $400k car next to all the other peasant vehicles. 😂

I can totally get the feeling of just enjoy that you're driving the car instead of speeding or something. Me and my family rented an insane luxury rooftop with ocean view for like, 1/3 of the value for 4 days, cus the costumer that would stay have cancelled and already paid. And most of the time I spent there, I was just chilling, having a drink and enjoying the view while contemplating that luxury moment.
I'd probably never get bored of this vibe if I could afford a car like this 😅
Fun fact, the Azure uses the same front seats that are in the 8-series BMW E31.

At Bentley, we understand our clientele can't be seen opening a door for someone else, such activities are referred to as "Employees Only". The Azure includes a door handle for the person sitting behind you. You can have them open the door for you by issuing a verbal command, or exit the vehicle and close the door so they can do it themselves!

I'm usually impartial to those heavy super luxury cars, but honestly this and the Lagonda Taraf have a place in my heart. I have some hope to be able to one day afford this one at least.

I remember when this came out and I saw it at the Geneva autoshow. Even as a 13 year old around crazy cool cars, this thing had presence. Actually now that I think about it, this might be the car that started my love affair with dark blue cars…

I own a '53 Bentley R-Type Drophead coupe by Parkward. The fuel gauges look nearly identical. To this day, I always thought the MIN printed in red meant 'minimum' oil level. Silly me.

A friend of mines parents had an Eldorado Convertible. He got to borrow it from his folks from time to time. Man, Cloud like does not begin to describe the ride. Right up until you tried to turn, then it was all kinds of drama.
I was in my late teens when this car debuted. I was in awe of how beautifully elegant yet sporty it looked. I still love these things.
This gen of Azure and the last run of the Arnage and Brooklands are some of the most beautiful cars ever made imo.

I really love the style of this era of Bentely and Rolls-Royce.
I prefer the Bentley Arnage, and the Bentley Brooklands.
I personally dislike the headlight assembly of the Rolls-Royce Corniche.
This two sets of rounded headlights are my style!
Nevertheless, this Azure, with its color combination, and the roof down, is just gorgeous!

Weight of this car is totally insane. Almost 6000 pounds and only two doors. But I really like this old school luxury where only the sky was the limit.

I have a Turbo R from the same era and that's exactly what Sport mode does.
The boxiness is so right, what I don’t like about current Bentley styling is it’s too swoopy and curvy. Looks more sporty than stately which isn’t really befitting of a car in its price bracket, the Mulsanne was the last boxy Bentley and I miss it.

17:05 I had a Cavalier convertible from 1993. Had similar windows. They worked great for allowing someone to light a cig or the like in the back seat while the roof was down and going down the highway. Useless for anything else and you had to make sure they were down before putting the roof up, then roll them back up.

I'd like to do the same, minus the smoke. 90s Bentleys are good looking and I love a soft, comfortable ride. This car doesn't scream "look at me!" like a Lamborghini but it definitely has presence.
I remember and still seeing these all over the Place in Monaco in Summer (With Monaco License Plates) So i wouldnt be surprised a ton of them sold in this Area and the South-French/Italian Border Area by themselves. In Person they definitely have quite the Presence and i imagine them being a great Place to sit in when the Sun is shining!

The ownership of Tyler Hoover and his listing of it on *Cars and Bids* provides just the boost to JC VDs career that he desperately needed. The rather weak Doug Score has somewhat skewered it's chances of bringing top dollar. Bon chance, Hoovie!
