    That little elbow you thought was a thermostat housing is the thermostat housing, I know it's weird that it's on the bottom but that's how they are. Also next time pull the top hose off the radiator, pull it as high as you can up in the air and fill through that and you won't get any air and it will fill a lot easier without spilling.

    Having owned the equivalent of this same exact model Impreza for 5 years I can say it’s one of my favorite and most reliable I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned over 20 different Subarus (including 11 SVXs 😂). The interior build quality was crap but it just keeps chugging along. Plus the fact you can lift them 4” with just 09-14 forester suspension and a adjustable trailing arm is pretty cool too.

    I can't tell you how many Subaru heads i've pressured tested and they showed no pressure drop, only to get an air pocket/small chamber developed during "normal engine temp" in the water pump area. Its always comes back to the head gaskets eventually..sooner or later.

    The pressure tester wouldn’t pressurize the bottle. The radiator cap bypasses with the spring when there’s more than ~15 psi against it inside the radiator. Which happens when the vehicle overheats and it fills the overflow bottle. The pressure testers wouldn’t have a bypass spring because they’re trying to keep the higher pressure on the cooling system components to find leaks in the actual cooling system. If it’s dripping off the reservoir it’s either because somebody spilled a bit while topping it off or the radiator is leaking at the seam between the plastic top and the radiator which is common and it’s spraying a bit on it. If it’s just a cracked reservoir there is no need to do anything with the cooling system as the reservoir is a vented system and doesn’t hold pressure

    I was trying to wrap my head around the overflow tank being the only leak and still being able to almost empty the entire system of coolant...then my morning brain woke up and realized, if the pressure test is what made it leak, it was a pressurized reservoir and not just a overflow tank. Sometimes working it through mentally takes longer than others!

    • @tomlindo2863
      @tomlindo2863 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Unfortunately tire prices seem to have gone up almost across the board (at least for the better known brands) - "needs new tires hack:" - look for new "take offs" from something like a WRX (wheels and tires) - there's a chance you can pickup an entire (no pun intended) set for less than what new shoes would cost you. The possible downside is that it's common for those putting aftermarket wheels and tires on to swap over the TPMS so you may have to do the same and it's probably worth it to rebalance them.

Her factory coolant was also dark green subaru coolant and they do make an additive for subaru that you can add to the coolant to prolong the headgaskets.
