In Europe - where I live - there lots of Japanese cars on the road, but not at the same percentage as in the USA, thus, some parts are not available in overnight shipping. Regular parts, e.g., filters, fuel pumps, or brake pads, are available. Some other parts, e.g., a transmission, injectors, or a window regulator may have a week of waiting. This is why I do not own a Japanese car, because I am not in a position (or willingness) to wait a week for a part. I respect their culture, and love their reliability! But, I admit that if I lived in the USA, I would most likely drive a Japanese car 🙂

Absolutely! Both my son and I have been missing this type of content from John Ross. Something about vehicles that people have otherwise given up on, and given a little time and effort there they are: Good to (JR)go! I blame it on the owners for whatever reason not having access to a mechanic who is: trustworthy and competent, or: they are ignorant about cars, so they therefore don't trust being charged for (diagnostic?) time or otherwise, and lastly, "friends" who advise them that the vehicle they have isn't worth putting money into, simply because it's old. Embarrassingly, I've been in all three situations, but after more than forty years of transportation ownership (If you include motorcycles) I've come to learn that once you find a good mechanic, appreciate them for the work they do. And vehicle ownership requires some effort, if you want to keep costs down. Every day I remind myself, the most expensive room in the house; is the garage.

You know what else fails on those 7th gen Civics all the time? The head gasket lol. Mine kicked the bucket on my '05 EM2 at 207K miles. Tried to replace it twice now but one of the nuts on the exhaust manifold is on some serious god level shit. Might just have to cut it off and replace the whole stud.
@@drewbenefield2001 These Civics can still be driven with a bad head gasket, and in some cases, you'll never know it's blown. When they fail, exhaust gas leaks into the cooling system. Usually the coolant reservoir tank constantly overflows after driving. I've been driving mine daily with a bad gasket for about 8K miles now. I just have to top off the radiator and burp it for gases every other day.
@@stevenhowell9170 Bleed it? Add a funnel to the radiator neck, pour coolant until it's full, grab the upper radiator hose and squeeze it until air pockets stop coming out. But when the head gaskets leak on these 7th gen Civics, the radiator cap/cooling system stays under pressure long after the car has cooled. When you remove the cap during that time frame it can sometimes cause coolant to fly or shoot from the reservoir tank when the radiator cap is removed or make bubbles pop from the radiator neck because the pressure buildup, therefore, many 7th gen owners who dealt with gasket failures started dubbing it as "burping" the system. Or sometimes if enough pressure builds up while driving, coolant will spray from the reservoir tank if you have the cap on the reservoir.
My girls 02 has an invisible coolant leak, and it misfires at cold start. But that damn gasket hasnt fully let go yet she runs good and only overheats idling for awhile 😂

I truly believe that manufactures intentionally make certain critical parts very difficult or completely impossible to ever find/replace thereby having to junk the car
Speedometer jumping ard, gear selector light wld blink, cruise control stop working but gear shifting good. My old 97-98 accord 2.0/2.2L every 5-10years VSS vehicles Speed Sensor that plugged inside wld spoiled. Bought from Chinese website costed me less than $20 per pcs. Bought 2pcs online to replace and standby. Cheap fix indeed.
Had a similar problem with 2011 Civic not changing gears. High Rpms.. Turn out the Catalytic Converter was complete clog. Order a $150 replacement from amazon and all is good. Also check your Engine and Transmission Ground Wires. Replaced as well made everything Great.
Yeah my son has a 2012 Scion tC that had the same symptoms and it was the catalytic converter. Weird issue with only about 90k miles. My wife has a Chevy Cruze the same year and her cat needed to be replaced at almost the same mileage.
@@Stressless2023 yeah our Civic has 180k bought it over a year ago with 150k miles at that time it acted like it needed new motor mounts which of course I kept putting off, but now no more shaking and appears the motor mounts are fine
I picked up a 2004 z4 with 80k for 2,000. Selller said it was overheating and he blew the motor. A quick scan showed the outlet coolant temp sensor was broke. $39 later and I’ve got a $10k summer fun car.

Got my daughter a 2005 CRV, great little car, overheated once and i replaced the fan but bypassed the heater core i thought it was leaking. Whats your take on replacing a heater core? Ive done one in the past on a yukon and that was a royal pain. Debating on paying someone or finding a cheaper fix.
sounds a bit like my folks W211, gearbox in a mess as the speeed sensors on the conductor plate had gone as the box fault code was implausible gear ratio haha as the input shaft going in was impossible for the output shaft going out

And make like 1,500 and when done it does the same thing cuz it has the old parts put back on it. Than go. Yeah must be the torque converter. When it’s a sensor. Rule of thumb I’ve learned k.i.s.s. Please drop by Honda's website and punch the VIN in to make sure it doesn't have an outstanding airbag recall. Honda goes out of it's way to find all the vehicles, but cars that trade hands often or are neglected may not have had the recall work done.
My 1994 honda civic VX with 338k miles was the tachometer not the speed sensor. Went to the junk yard and got it for $25 while everyone in Craigslist and offerup wanted $200.

I'd guess you're holding off on spending more money on it if you see a downturn ahead but wanted to ask. "What about the walls!?", they scream! I had a '03 Civic that did that and my current '06 Acura TL did it too, the TL needed a trans rebuild, the Civic needed the valve body of the trans replaced.
Didn't have good luck with mine. Honda lost a little of their reputation for quality around these times. I have an '06 Acura TL that I love and bought brand new, but it's been kind of a crappy car too. Always been a Honda fan but definitely moving to Lexus, Infiniti, or Cadillac next.
Sounds like my old work van. Speedo would stick at random speeds, then maybe it would work. I got my first ticket in it because I never could trust it to tell the truth and got popped for 15 over in a 35 zone. I pled stupidity and they took 32 bucks off...
Always a win. A running Civic sold for less than 3k, is a mistake. It is amazing how many total turdbxs that run, are selling for that just because of that H emblem on the hood.
imagine being in a rough area during bad weather when a abs or speedo sensor disables a car,. they mainly do that so people cant unplug sensors and cheat the warranty or lease deals. 90's cars ftw

Lazy meaning they haven't bothered to learn new tech and troubleshooting so it's definitely the trans.

I had a '03 Civic that did that and my current '06 Acura TL did it too, the TL needed a trans rebuild, the Civic needed the valve body of the trans replaced.

Didn't have good luck with mine. Honda lost a little of their reputation for quality around these times. I have an '06 Acura TL that I love and bought brand new, but it's been kind of a crappy car too. Always been a Honda fan but definitely moving to Lexus, Infiniti, or Cadillac next.

Honda is known to have speed sensor issues it's almost a certainty with older Hondas.
Sounds like my old work van. Speedo would stick at random speeds, then maybe it would work. I got my first ticket in it because I never could trust it to tell the truth and got popped for 15 over in a 35 zone. I pled stupidity and they took 32 bucks off...
Always a win.
A running Civic sold for less than 3k, is a mistake. It is amazing how many total turdbxs that run, are selling for that just because of that H emblem on the hood.
imagine being in a rough area during bad weather when a abs or speedo sensor disables a car,. they mainly do that so people cant unplug sensors and cheat the warranty or lease deals. 90's cars ftw
