    Isn’t the power difference between the two due to the size & led difference of both? Meaning, it looks like 2 joovv solos would be equivalent in size and number of lights to the larger panel on the left...I’m not sure of this, genuinely interested

    • @LightTherapyInsiders

  • @japonicaren
    @japonicaren 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Can you post info on the spectrometer?
    To accurately measure the light output you need a setup like a glass coffee table where you have a fixed parallel distance. You also need to zero out the transparent top (glass/plexi) by using a known source. One per wavelength you're measuring.

    @Incantationem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As I understand it, more power isn't necessarily better. Correct dose in terms of power and duration is allegedly critical. Joovv also features something they call "recovery plus", which means that their near infrared light is pulsed at 10 hz. There are some studies that show a benefit of pulsed NIR light over continuous light, mainly in terms of penetration. This is not a feature I've seen in other red light panels, and makes me seriously consider joovv.
    Joovv explains the benefits of pulsed infrared light like this:
    "To understand why pulsed light and a cellular “quench period” are important, think about working out. If you do multiple strenuous workouts every single day, you’re more likely to get worn down and suffer an injury because you aren’t giving your body and cells the time they need to recover and regenerate. It’s a similar principle with pulsed light: short intervals between wavelengths gives your cells and tissues the time they need to adapt and respond better to the next interval of NIR light."
    I'd appreciate your perspective on this.

    I just tore my hamstring 2 hours ago. I own a biomax. I was thinking of turning on only the “near infrared” lights and doing it for several hours. Would this be okay? I can’t find any information suggesting that it is bad to do multiple hours of NIR only.

    • @LightTherapyInsiders
      @LightTherapyInsiders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't do multiple hours, would only use the parameters for deep tissue treatment, which is like ~10 minutes max, if you're at a medium distance.
      A higher dosage will almost certainly SLOW healing due to the hormetic effect.

      Hi AnnMarie! That's a great question! The answer is: a BIG "maybe". It's impossible to tell whether any intervention can help you with your condition without first knowing a lot more about you. For instance, I don't know anything about your nutrient status - potassium, calcium, and magnesium deficiencies or excesses can cause spacticity. Also, certian health conditions can alter muscular tone through the nervous system. So, unfortunately, I cannot say anything meaningful here. -- Bart from team Alexfergus

    Alex, i'm very interested in the BioMax900 BUT i'm also very confused as to how the "numbers" shake out. On the company website video, they do a side by side comparison of the BioMax600 to the Joovv Solo. They did the Irradiance test from 12" away and the Max600 had just over 100 while Joovv had 60. On the other hand, you did a test comparison of theBioMax900 vs Joovv from 6 inches away in this video and your numbers vastly differ and are much lower for a more powerful unit. Do solar power meters vary that much in testing? If the BioMax900 truely has only a top irradiance of 76 at 6 inches away, i'm not interested because those levels are much lower than what their website promises. Please help clarify why your test results are so underwhelmingly different from the video on the Platinum site. Thanks very much!

    Can these panels be used inside an infrared sauna?

    • @LightTherapyInsiders
      @LightTherapyInsiders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory, yes, no problem. For me, personally, the sweating has almost zero effect (in fact, an infinitesimally small effect) on the effectiveness of red light therapy. The risk, however, is getting humidity and water into the electronics of the panel, which is why I won't recommend using the panels inside a sauna anytime soon! -- Bart from team Alexfergus

    I have a Joovv solo but I’ll be purchasing a platinum system for my office after watching this and reading all your reviews but just wanted to say there are podcasters that do have a discount code for the new 3.0 panels and all the 2.0’s are on clearance right now so my 2.0 solo was only $895 vs the original $1195 and the 3.0 solo is now $1345. Thanks for this comparison, I’m excited to try the platinum and to offer it to all my clients!

      Hey, there's so many panels out there these days it's hard for me to test them all! But I'll see what I can do.
      I can say though - you can't really go wrong with any panel - they all do a great job of delivering therapeutic red light to the body.
      It just boils down to what is better suited to your needs/budget etc.
      I haven't used the LuminiousRed devices, so I can't comment on them, but I have used the Platinum panels for many years and really like them.

      Check out all my reviews for red light panels, including this comparison series - th-cam.com/video/I0XZz4Hbs2U/w-d-xo.html
      You will see that my reviews are unbiased. I used to be affiliated with Joovv as well, but then I started using and recommending other panels as I found them to be better value / performance etc. So i joined the affiliate programs from those companies as well. But Joovv have an exclusivity agreement with their affiliate program - if I was affiliated with any other company I couldn't be on their program.
      I hope this makes sense. But yeah check out my other reviews and it's clear that there are better panels out there than the Joovv. Just look at the EMF levels on the new Joovv, or the sound levels, or the price per LED etc etc.

    Hello, Alex, thanks for being such a great resource. My daughter has had severe TBI for the last 9 years from an auto accident. She can't intelligently communicate basically at all. All the studies about the effectiveness of Infrared lights seem to be on mild TBI. I would really appreciate some help with these questions:
    1. Which model works best on severe TBI? (under 1000 dollars)
    2. How close should the lights be to forehead?
    3. Shouldn't she wear eye shades as the power from the lights surely would effect her eyes, right?
    4. Some studies show that the infrared actually on the skin is the best way. Is that true for the head as well?
    5. My daughter had a massive global bleed....so would the lights have any benefit on the sides of her head and on the back, or is it just on the forehead (and if it is just on the forehead, why)?
    6. How long should each exposure last?
    This information would be of great help. Alex, thank you so much in advance!!!

      Hard to say, they're both really solid. Though two peices of feedback that may help: 1) The biomax has a 3 year warranty, & 60 day trial period. Joovv also has a 60 day trial peroid but only a 2 year warranty. 2) I've got a couple of Joovv's here and a couple of Biomax's. I have used the biomax's more than the Joovvs and to date I haven't had any issues with the Biomax. However two of my Joovv panels (one a generation 1 panel, the other generation 2 panel) have issues (the gen 1 panel has a bunch of leds that flicker randomly, the gen 2 panel has a bunch of LEDS that just stopped working)

    What’s flicker?

    • @LightTherapyInsiders
      @LightTherapyInsiders  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flicker is the turning off and on of a light source. Usually flicker is 50 or 300 times a second (Hz), and therefore invisible to the human eye. And yet, flicker DOES have a potential biological impact, both positive or negative.
