    Thanks for this. Doing this hookup over the weekend. Have a new generator I bought in 2020 and never used or hooked up the battery. Tried a couple months ago to get it running. Trickle charged the battery (was down to. 9.5v) but after charging it to 12.5v it wouldn’t start the generator. Replaced the battery and am going to hook up the ring connectors as you did and keep it charged so it’s ready when needed.

    great video, last year I got the battery tender for my zero turn I took the batt out and let it charge all winter, now I got a duromax 12000DX generator so I think I will buy another charger but maybe hook it up like you did, I’ll have to see if this comes with the two hook ups

    Thanks for making this video. Once the trickle charger is installed, do you always keep it plugged in? Or do you plug it in once a month? What is the best way to maintain the battery?

    Thank you SO much for creating this video. I was intimidated when I read the instructions for the trickle charger, which includes so many warnings I almost gave up. Your instruction shows how simple it actually is, and it's great to know I can leave the charger attached all the time so the push-button starter will always work. Should I unplug the charger from the wall when I actually need to run the generator?

    Tim, this video was really informative. I noticed that you also had a quick connect on your generator. I own the same Firman generator as you and ordered the 25 FT quick connect natural gas hose, but the quick connect only attaches to the incoming gas line and there is no quick connect attachment for the natural gas inlet. I called Firman and they said they did not sell a quick connect adapter for the natural gas inlet valve. How did you get a quick connect set up on your firman natural gas inlet to connect to your firman gas hose?

    • @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP
      @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m thinking it’s a cut off switch to disco tree the battery so it doesn’t slowly drain over time it shouldn’t matter whether it’s on or off because your trickle charger contexts directly to the battery

    First, thanks for the video. I have owned several generators and one that charged its own battery (this old generator died when needed) So when a storm was brewing, I ran out and bought a new Generac. BUT YOU had to maintain the battery charge. Q: can a the charger in this video be connected to an outlet on the generator so that it maintains the chaege while its running? Thank you so much for any info you can provide. BTW: I am handicapped and my generator in located on a lower level.

    • @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP
      @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So a few points first yes you could plug it in to charge the battery while the generator is running.
      However these trickle charges are very low amperage and are designed to very slowly bring batteries back to life.
      However this generator has its own internal circuit that charges up the battery on its own if it’s running for long enough.
      If yours doesn’t I woudl look at a 5amp smart charger like this NOCO
      amzn.to/3eVtHPN
      Because using the electric start on the generator using up quite a bit of juice form the battery especially if it doesn’t start right away.

    help a newbie out here....probably a dumb and perhaps unsafe question....Do you leave the trickle charger eyelet rings engaged to the battery terminals (but not connected to the charger) AT THE SAME TIME on the same terminals as the battery is connected to the generator engine and the engine is running? Would current "back flow" through the unplugged/capped trickle charger connector?

    • @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP

      I leave the eyelets connected there is a quick connect half way between the islets and the actual charge which makes it safe when disconnected
