Funny you should ask that. The MIP works perfect in the A10, F16 and many others without the need to use reshade at all. The funny part is the only aircraft in DCS that needs the brightness mod is the F18 which this MIP topgun setup was made for. Glad it worked for you! Keep in mind that the A10c and a few of the other planes are already bright enough so if you switch, just turn it off or make a profile for each. My buddy actually made the ddi in the KA50 blackshark a color screen with the reshade so there's some cool stuff you can do with it if you spend some time
Hi chris thank's for all the info, 2 other things I would like to know where's come from the page that you bring in your screen at the 13:05 min of your video and the other thing is do I have to install one of the programm (RESHADE) that you add a link above. thank you.
If you haven't installed reshade yet, you won't see the menu. Make sure you watch the videos on how to install and use reshade for DCS. This video is a follow up to that but doesn't go into the level of detail you are asking about and if I tried to explain it here it would be counter productive. There's a video link to it on screen in the video here but just look for how to make dcs look beautiful in TH-cam and you'll see it
Nice. This also works with guys using Helios custom viewports with the MFDs. I for once did not like the software that WinWing uses so I ditched all of it and went with Helios. Now my screens work with everything in DCS not just the ones WinWing set up templets with.
Hey, so are you referring to simapp pro? I've been having stupid problems with winwing screens lately but I'm not sure it really makes any difference if I switched.
Go with Helios. You can overlay all the Viewports in one setup. You will find that every plane in the game will use the screens in some way. From constant F14 radar display for pilot. A supper crisp F1 radar. A4 radar looks good. @@theittyreport
Hi Chris, I really like your video, that is exaclly what I need to resolve the (DDI/AMPCD brightness problem) but I have a question about your step by step procedure. At the 13:05 min of your video you bring a new window on your main screen (Black and blue) and you talk about the 4 things that have to be place in certain ordre. Where this window come from, and the 4 things that you're talking are a little hard to read cause your camera is zoom out that I can not see clearlly what it is where it from and where it goes.
#1. UI mask top (this would be in white and not affected) #2. Tone map #3. Levels #4. UI mask bottom (this would be the area of the mfds and ddi screens that would be color edited aka brightness)
I haven't had any brightness issues with my MPCD. It's very bright. I just got it this week and tested on the F16 and F18. I wonder if it's something to do with the beta version of DCS? I'm not using the beta and my screen is extremely bright.
It really is only needed for the f 18 as it's just super dim compared to say the a10. But I've still found it really useful for the apache as well. Glad to hear yours works as you need it!
Hello, I have a question, I have 2 monitors and most of the time I watch TH-cam videos while playing DCS. And recently I bought the Topgun MIP and did all the settings for it, but now every time I start the game the monitor on the right side just turns off. Do you have a solution for this?
It is strange man, I used to have everything work from the start but due to windows updates, dcs updates, lack of track IR updates I've had to figure mysetup startup process many times. It's really easy for some but I've got 6 screens and tons of USB gear so it's lucky it ever works.
@@theittyreport hey thanks for the answer👍 i figured it out, i did something wrong with the „set scaling and layout“ option in the sim app pro software.
I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure what you mean by high. Mine are mounted on the h6 dof rig with some wood extensions that I had to cut. But I'm not sure this is what you're asking. I have a video of my setup if you look under my videos if that helps. But let me know what I can do
@chromaticmusic I mean the mfds and the Hud display are T shaped rather than + shaped. Yours is set up to look more like an F18 panel, but out of the box those mfds are incorrectly located 3 inches lower. They are even incorrectly displayed on winwings website too. I'm just interested in learning how you got them correctly located, that's all.
In the windows screen settings your MPCDs need to be at the bottom from left to right. Their instructions will show you to set them up that way and not in the middle below your bigger screens. You also don't want to have a space between the screens on the bottom.
Hey man, hope this works for you. I had to jump on Discord with someone here to get it to work through screen sharing and he had a totally different setup but it worked. I do agree with your suggestions but some of the people have a totally different setup so it can be really tricky
Just echoing what everyone e!se is saying, well done video but could you possibly explain the steps you took as not familiar so much .with the Reshade etc. and is this fix still relative at this point in time? Thank you, sub'd.
All you need is to be in the main cockpit view and do a screen shot. Your ddi screens will always be at the bottom regardless of what aircraft your in as long as you set the MFD screens under the main windows monitor settings. Everybody's setup is a bit different and you may need to tweak a few things based on what you use, but it should be fairly straight forward
Is there a way to get reshade to work with VR to do this UI mask? I am exporting the MFDs in VR but the screens are too dark. I tried reshade install but it broke VR with openxr. I could only run DCsSin VR with skatezillas utility to force VR but it uses steamvr which is terrible performance now and reshade was not working at all.
I can say that no, it won't. At least it didn't for me due to how VR exports screens and how winwing does use VR to assign its screens. If you get it to work let me know, I'd love to see that work
@@theittyreport Well I just spoke to a guy in the WInwing facebook group who said he got the screens to be brighter in VR with reshade 6.0.1 and doing a mask. He said he installed the reshade files to both the DCS/bin folder and the DCS/bin-mt folder and told reshade installer to use both Directx 9,10,11 and Openxr. I have not tried it yet.
@bmgengraving that's great to know, hope it works for you. Some are even reporting that reshade is not working at all anymore but I know that's not the case because mine still works. People need to know that you have to reinstall reshade for every dcs update. It's a pain but really only takes a moment to do because it defaults to the same directory so you just hit next a few times and it's done
@@theittyreport I did get reshade 6.0.1 to work in VR with openXR. I also can use it to brighten the MIP displays but making a mask like you do in the video doesn't work as intended it seems. maybe I did it wrong. But using that UImask in the textures folder cause the entire mask to be visible in VR headset. So I deleted the mask then just used the 4 selections in the reshade settings window in the same order as you did. This does cause the mirrored image on the desktop of the VR to change but nothing in the headset changes at all. Since you made your mask in 2D mode I would be curious if you just tried using that version and using VR and see if the image in the VR headset changes or if you see the mask like I did. Just to be clear on install. I installed reshade 6.0.1 to BOTH bin folders for single thread and multithread and selected the directx 10,11,12 API and checked the Openxr option in the install window then selected the chosen effects packs which I do not know which are best. Let me know if you try and how it goes for you.
@bmgengraving excellent troubleshooting man! If you saw my video on pimax vs winwing you'd understand why I'll never fly in VR again. It caused so much havoc that I simply lost all hope for anything other than my configuration. Way too many things to go wrong and only the people with a setup like mine can understand. I love it when others chime in and say they have the same rig and they don't have any issues while they also don't have half the stuff I do. Either way, super happy you figured it out.
Sorry, I don't understand the question. All things on the system work on multi-player servers and missions as well. The software that comes with winwing does the work for the MFD screens as well as maps the switches and buttons. However for planes like the A10c you can map the buttons to whatever you need.
Gimp is free and if you have any other editors they would work as well. Just needs to be the exact same frame size and full black and white. I mentioned this in detail
By default, the reshade is always on for me so when I jump to the f15 it already looks good so I'm sure both the mfd screens in the 18 and 15 have the same brightness issues
@@theittyreport I'm trying but it doesent work.. the reshade blue menu appears over the game covering the main screen.. if I hit home it shuts down .. if I bring it back with home during the flight it appears again covering the screen..is there something else I have to set?
I just got the winwing MFD x 3 and I have updated my simmapp however I have only 7 tabs Device Environment Check, Virtual Device Mapping, Add-on, Key Binding, Dynamic Vibration Motor and Game Peripheral Display. I have no MFD Display I was wondering if anyone could help me?
@bandp2 I'd probably have to see your screen in real-time in discord to help. Also you need to make sure the mfd screens work by plugging them into usb3 ports and checking the display preferences in windows. If they aren't showing up then you'd need to know why.
@theittyreport the buttons around the screen. I have the ufc and hud stuff working perfectly, screens are perfect now after your video, but the app and game are not seeing the mfd's to map out the buttons.
@tonymash i bet I know what the issue is. My buddy was using the usb from the center of the actual screen and not the mfd panel. If you look at the very bottom left of the back of the mfd you'll see a small usb C insert. That where the usb C cable goes for the buttons. Why they put the cables that close together is beyond me. Let me know if that solves it for you. It not, hit me up on Discord ITTY#9286 and I'll look at your settings with you and see what's the issue. But dollars to doughnuts it's the cable in the back
It makes my game white too so I can't see anything so I have to keep going back and forth. DCS randomly crashes since installing reshade. My screen though like your screenshot us different. Has the main DCS screen and then my 3 displays are along side of the main display.
It's a difficult thing to troubleshoot without having a full view of your setup. I know with mine it took days to configure and lots of trying different things. See if you can do a walk through of your setup and send me a link so I can see what is happening.
@@theittyreport like how the screenshot looks? Im not sure program you used but I just have paint. Or what do you mean by walkthrough? Have you had DCS crash? I'm wondering if it's a video card thing too. But it didn't start until I installed reshade
@Joshua Scholl a video of what you're doing when it crashes. It could be a simple thing such as missing a set of forgetting the copy the information into the right file or folder. I tried to I stall the way v2 and it didn't work for me and there's no instructions on how to install it. I did this video because it did t work for me either and although I did figure it out, there's a billion variations on individual builds, software, hardware, Anti virus and malware software that can absolutely be the cause. I know this for a fact because my friend had same issues as you described and it was a malware program blocking access to the Javascript. I'd be happy to walk you through it on Discord if that helps. Let me know
@@theittyreport thank you for your reply I use the F18 but the airplane has to be start up before the screen shot. But another question. Inmy screen shot the three mdf's are to the right of the screenshot and not at the bottom. And another problem Reshade does not find my dcs when I want to install Reshade. So I click on Browse but what file does I need to click for finding my DCS ?
@benoitrenard3462 all these details should be in the video if you watch it again. But the quick answer is choose the drive where dcs is installed, then dcs world, open beta if that's yours, bin Mt if you use multi thread, then the icon for dcs. But please watch the video on this part. It's worked for 1000s of people so I know all the information is there, just watch the video without skipping around. It has to be done in a very exact order. Also, for every update, you'll need to reinstall reshade. But it's a 10 second install because all you have to do is choose modify as all your settings are already in place so it's not a big deal
@benoitrenard3462 did you adjust the presets and enable it? Again, if you miss one step in the guide I made it won't work. Every detail matters. Also, sometimes there's something else that you're not seeing that could be the issue like an update to your graphics card or an update to windows or even the placement of you mfd screens in the winwing sim app pro software. I feel your pain man and I'm trying to help but this like all things dcs requires some troubleshooting on your part. Best I can do is look at your settings on Discord doing a screen share and see if you missed something small. Let me if this is an option for you
Looks great on your video. Built a mask, then installed Reshade, and since the istallation DCS crashes during startup, both MT and ST versions. Tried reinstalling Reshade on MT or ST or both - same result... Had to uninstall Reshade to make DCS work again. Searched the Web but could not resolve this problem. Maybe someone here can help me out with this?..
Do you have anti virus or malware software? You wouldn't believe how bad those apps can cause issues with dcs related problems. Remember that there's a ton of open source apps and mods with dcs that are considered by virus protection programs and get in the way all the time
@michaelkphoto8344 so here's the deal, my system with the MIP setup is now crashing track IR is the winwing screens are on at boot up just after installing a 4090. If I turn them after I run track ir then I can open the simapp and select the layout for the mfds. The reason I'm telling you this is because winwing is not the greatest software nor is track ir, they can continue to mess with the other so I'd remove everything you don't need from the usb ports and see if anything changes. If that doesn't help, then create a new administrator account in your computer to see if a preference file is messed up. Also there's a repair Lua file in the simapp program that can be helpful. But just start with removing the winwing setup from your system and boot DCS and see if it crashes. Then, one by one add a panel and launch dcs till you see what's causing the problem. It's impossible to troubleshoot soup that blended together. If one ingredient is bad, the whole soup is bad. You gotta pull it all apart and isolate the issue. Never know, could be a bad USB cable or even hub, or port. Good luck and I hope this was helpful
I think it's the same as it simply brightens the exported screens in the black bar, so even if you were running those screen on iPads etc, they should only brighten the mfd screens
I’m guessing you were searching for a solution that until this video, nothing worked. So, yeah, I’ll take I love you for my efforts, glad it worked for you!

@benoitrenard3462 thanks for that suggestion man! Never heard of that. Do you a link to it?
Chris, you're a champ. Thank you
Glad it worked for you!
There's a video link to it on screen in the video here but just look for how to make dcs look beautiful in TH-cam and you'll see it
Thanks! This helped me set up my Winwing screens
Awesome!
Even Helicopters. My UH-1 Crew Indicator shows up on the right MFD rather than the main screen
Hi Chris, what kinda problems you have? Im about to get those dipslays
@vasilisroukis1108 I'm having so many weird things happen so I need to put up a video
Chris in the video you said you'd post a link on how to install the reshader and get it set up. Can you help with that, please?

Works perfectly. Thank you.
Awesome, glad to have helped
Hi Chris, I really like your video, that is exaclly what I need to resolve the (DDI/AMPCD brightness problem) but I have a question about your step by step procedure. At the 13:05 min of your video you bring a new window on your main screen (Black and blue) and you talk about the 4 things that have to be place in certain ordre. Where this window come from, and the 4 things that you're talking are a little hard to read cause your camera is zoom out that I can not see clearlly what it is where it from and where it goes.
#1. UI mask top (this would be in white and not affected)
#2. Tone map
#3. Levels
#4. UI mask bottom (this would be the area of the mfds and ddi screens that would be color edited aka brightness)
You'll have to drag these settings in the correct order for them to work
it's the reshade gui.
@@theittyreport hey thanks for the answer👍 i figured it out, i did something wrong with the „set scaling and layout“ option in the sim app pro software.
if I may ask, how did you get your MFD panels up that high? Im trying to get mine set up 1:1 for vr and they arent even close right now.
@utley I think your problem is that you need to set the screen up as portrait not landscape in the screen settings in windows
@@theittyreport im not talking about the pictures, Im talking about the physical MFDs attached to the HUD and UFC controller.
@@utley th-cam.com/video/PVyJ51PjIyk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=opz3rAPO3_7Ud0A1
In the windows screen settings your MPCDs need to be at the bottom from left to right. Their instructions will show you to set them up that way and not in the middle below your bigger screens. You also don't want to have a space between the screens on the bottom.
Hey man, hope this works for you. I had to jump on Discord with someone here to get it to work through screen sharing and he had a totally different setup but it worked. I do agree with your suggestions but some of the people have a totally different setup so it can be really tricky
you're a life saver man!!!
Glad to help! Winwing owes me a beer
Just echoing what everyone e!se is saying, well done video but could you possibly explain the steps you took as not familiar so much .with the Reshade etc. and is this fix still relative at this point in time? Thank you, sub'd.
Here's the link to the reshade installation I learned from. Let me know if this helped! th-cam.com/video/UGxgD9GNVNw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KTkVMDcHYlVz6O0I
Thank you so much huge help for me
Glad it helped man! See you in the sky
You’re awesome man thanks a lot
Sure thing bro
Does this affect the integrity check? Does it have to be done after every update? Does it have to be redone after repairing DCS?
No, yes, and yes. But you don't need to reinstall it, just add the line to the export.lua
Q: What screenshot do we need? All the ddi screens and...? or just the full cockpit view or?
All you need is to be in the main cockpit view and do a screen shot. Your ddi screens will always be at the bottom regardless of what aircraft your in as long as you set the MFD screens under the main windows monitor settings. Everybody's setup is a bit different and you may need to tweak a few things based on what you use, but it should be fairly straight forward
Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
Bloody awesome
Thank you so much
Absolutely!
Does this also work for others modules like f16 mfd's?
It does the same for anything that you can export a MFD screen. Let me know if you run into trouble
@@theittyreport thanks! Did it today and awesome!
Super useful.
Are the MFDs displays worked on multiplayer servers that not allowed the OBJECT EXPORTS?
Sorry, I don't understand the question. All things on the system work on multi-player servers and missions as well. The software that comes with winwing does the work for the MFD screens as well as maps the switches and buttons. However for planes like the A10c you can map the buttons to whatever you need.
is there any way to make the png without photoshop? thanks.
Gimp is free and if you have any other editors they would work as well. Just needs to be the exact same frame size and full black and white. I mentioned this in detail
thanks for the useful video! I wonder why I have the same issue with the F15E, but on the A-10C II the winwing mfds looks perfect instead :/
By default, the reshade is always on for me so when I jump to the f15 it already looks good so I'm sure both the mfd screens in the 18 and 15 have the same brightness issues
I' gonna try later your workaround! 👍🏼🙂

If they aren't showing up then you'd need to know why.
big time thank you! noiw if i could just get simapp or the game to see the buttons.....
@@tonymash which buttons are you referring to?
I'd be happy to walk you through it on Discord if that helps. how can you have the threee mfd on your screenshot ? me I have just the screen in the game
@@benoitrenard3462 the f18 has 3 screens. Which aircraft are you using?
But it's a 10 second install because all you have to do is choose modify as all your settings are already in place so it's not a big deal
okay I solved my problem and do your tutorial but it doesnt work for me my screen are the same as before
@benoitrenard3462 did you adjust the presets and enable it?
Remember that there's a ton of open source apps and mods with dcs that are considered by virus protection programs and get in the way all the time
@@theittyreport No antivirus or malware here. This is a pure sim installation. The only mod I have is the A4 Skyhawks. 🤷🏼♂️
@@theittyreport Looks like there is no way around it, will have to go your route and go through the whole process of isolating the problem. Thanks! 🙏🙏
@michaelkphoto8344 yeah, I'm going throught on another computer as well... why oh why do we do this to ourselves for the sake of a game
Anyone have any info for how to do this same thing but for CubeSim's monitors?
I think it's the same as it simply brightens the exported screens in the black bar, so even if you were running those screen on iPads etc, they should only brighten the mfd screens

these winwing ddi's are kind of a waste of money, well maybe not if you only bought 2 but the third one is absolutely useless if you fly more then 1 aircraft
