After watching your earlier videos I treated myself to the top gun mip for my 70th birthday it arrived 6 days later and i am very happy with it I had no problems setting it up i now just need to setup all my modules . Keep up the good work and thanks.
As I recently purchased the MIP Top Gun and PTO2 along with Throttle and Joystick from WinWing. Your video is spot on and informative. My problem in view of so little instruction setting up the connections. That was the only item I would have appreciated information on. Also I realized how touchy SimAppPro is proving to be. I am thankful there are ressources such as you around. Again Thank You. Only in Canada😮 hey.
Great work, and thanks to your video I took the plunge. Your guide saved me countless hours prior because I was able to reconfigure my Monstertech Chair, and center stick, along with my TPR pedals to accommodate the setup. Wingwing has set themselves apart with their products. Speedy shipping, great support, and outstanding quality and innovation. 🎉
This was a great video nice and clear step by step. I shall be purchasing the mip topgun and your video is exactly what is needed for the setup again thank you. Although I am certain I shall be referring to this video again especially when setting it up in DCS. I believe if you where to provide us with a video specifically dealing with the DCS programming that would be great. Cheers.
There are lots of videos out there that help with DCS bindings, but if you decide you would like me to make one specific to the way I set up my MIP bindings for myself, I'll be happy to accommodate. Please re-post another comment or reply to this feed and let me know. Thanks for your interest!!
Hey just saw your video and was curious about the USB hub ( the one on the floor behind your rudder pedal s) you have for your flight sim. What type is it and where did you get it. Thanks
So you need 7 USB ports just for the MIP? And then another 3 or four for the HOTAS and pedals? I have the WW Orion 2 HOTAS already, which I love. And then Saitek rudder pedals, which I absolutely hate. I am looking at getting the WW MIP very soon, and also upgrading to a set of Virpil or MFG rudder pedals.
Yes, 7 usb ports for the MIP, 2 for the HOTAS, 1 for my headset, 1 for my TrackIR, 1 for my Keyboard and mouse. I plug my pedals into the back of my PC since the Virpil pedals draw more power. It works more efficient that way. Hope this helps...
Nice : ) FYI, moving from 1 32 inch display to 3 32 inch displays was a game changer... lol. Seriously, big change as it lets you set scaling more appropriate to scale.
All configuration is done in the SimAppPro software. You need to select which aircraft you will be flying in SimAppPro prior to launching DCS. The DDI's will display appropriately in that aircraft only in DCS during that session. If you want to fly a different aircraft (and display DDI's correctly) it is recommended you'll need to exit DCS, reconfigure the new aircraft in SimAppPro, then relaunch DCS. FYI... I will say though, I have played DCS starting with FA-18C configured then launching an F-16C in the same session and the DDI's displayed correctly in the F-16C...
Hello, I have a question, I have 2 monitors and most of the time I watch TH-cam videos while playing DCS. And recently I bought the Topgun MIP and did all the settings for it, but now every time I start the game the monitor on the right side just turns off. Do you have a solution for this?
I use one screen but I watch TH-cam videos as well. If you open your browser window and then DCS you can easily swap between DCS and TH-cam by using the keyboard shortcut on Windows 10 . But you should still be able to use your second screen if you use "Displaylink Manager" to assign your second screen as a separate display. I hope this helps!
Very nice setup! I've heard about the shake kit for the stick but I'm not entirely too sure what it's supposed to similate? I have been able to find any videos that talk too much about it. Do it just vibrate when the plane is buffeting or when ever you shoot weapons? Thanks!
The shake kit in the Orion 2 F-16EX shakes when you are taxiing, when your gear raises and lowers, Launching weapons and over stressing the aircraft. I like it because its just enough to feel the gear raising. But the shake kit doesn't just add shake, it adds 2 more 5 point HAT buttons. Which is way more valuable than the shake itself.
I notice that I ended to reconfigure my mip displays after each reboot. Using a similar setup. Checking the box to restore orientation in the win wing software doesn't seem to help. Do you keep it plugged into pc all the time or remove when not in use?
I keep everything connected through a USB HUB and each input has an on off switch, so I simply turn them off when I'm not playing. I typically use my computer for work and many other things as well. I also have another 40" monitor I use so I switch back and forth from gaming to working. I don't find it a problem to reconfigure the screens each time I play. As long as I follow my sequence of turning each piece on, my system works flawless every time...
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to explain how to setup a simpit! I had no idea how to connect stuff at all. But your UFC is for the F-18. I fly the F-16. Is there a panel with 2 MFD's and an ICP for the F-16? I could not find this on the Winwing site. Or can you also use your panels and HOTAS for the Viper? Thank you so much for the help.
I used the UFC for all aircraft in DCS that I want to bind, but Winwing has released an ICP (which I bought) and now I use both for switching between the FA-18C and the F-16C. The ICP is super awesome and attaches to the MIP in 5 minuets. It use one USB cable. I may create a new video to show the new system, because they have made lots of changes since I created this video.
Do you have dimensions of how tall by how much length the set up is. I have limited space and i wanna know if i can set it up with everything else i have. I would really appreciate it
Just set mine up a couple weeks ago and after it ran some updates before I did any bindings in DCS controls all the bindings were exactle were they should be. Do you think it is something new? Question: Do your displays ever need to be reset in Simapp pro after a shutdown or restart?
I can't get the MFD1-C get selected. Does anyone know how to get it selected. I am able to select right and left but when I select the middle nothing happens. It just displays it as a 50 button system.
Need info: can i use this MFD1 (with display monitor) for DCS helicopters like KA-50 abris , navi (and the other screen for search and destroy enemie tanks) and also Apache 64 ?
Just for clarification, do you have to this for every boot up? Don't the settings save so that you dont have to set it up for everytime you reboot the computer? And have you tried the setup in any other games than DCS? MFS or War thunder as for example? Great video anyhow, thanks!
Yes, I do this every time... I would guess because I have a second 40" 4K monitor (across the room) that I use as a primary display when not using DCS (All HOTAS peripherals are off when running one monitor separate). The reason is, I use this computer for my work as well. So when I convert to DCS from my work system, I unplug my 4k from across the room, connect the DCS 4k HDMI then power up all the HOTAS peripherals. That is my sequence. I must say though, when I leave the DCS setup on and configured, then shut down and reboot with my HOTAS and DCS 4k on (prior to boot), everything is still configured properly. I did the video the way I did it simply to show the configuration and how easy it is to configure the software etc... I hope this clarifies? Sorry I'm so late to reply...
Dude. The mfd selection option was clutch. I only have one and could not figure out how to assign to left instead if center. Turns iut with one, center may be where it us at. Thanks
I saw similar setups over the last 7 years but each time I have same question. These days though need to make a remark: if you do not have VR. So monitor in front I guess is main way to play. But question each time I have I see that in these cockpit setups people always place monitor far forward and sometimes it is not even that big. Did you consider moving monitor closer? Maybe taking new curve one and fix it at the moving gimballed hand so you could adjust it on the fly? I think I don't understand something because I see that in many cockpit setups like that, everything is perfect until I see tiny monitor in front :D
I'm using a 40" monitor and have 2 more to complete a 120" setup. But it takes up a lot of room. I play with the one monitor most of the time time and I'm super happy with it. It's set at the perfect distance for me because it feels like the same size as the cockpit. I don't think a smaller monitor would work for me and I have thought about a larger curved version. But at this point I'm sure sure it would benefit me in any way. I'm more into having all the physical buttons to manage the aircraft systems. That is most important to me since my graphics don't seems to hinder me at this point in time. I may dabble into VR down the road.
Hi, sorry I'm getting back so late... been working a lot lately. Anyway, not sure what you are referring to exactly. Keep in mind, that the TOP GUN MIP comes with 3 screens (DDI's) and three Multi Function Displays (MFD's). They are 2 different things and are programed separately in the SimAppPro software. Give me some more detail and I'll try to help if I can.
SimAppPro is designed to work with your winwing hardware calibration. It will only align the DDI's in your aircraft of choice in DCS or Falcon BMS. The winwing DDI's or displays are controlled by windows "DisplayLink Manager." The winwing displays are really just custom monitors that fit perfectly into the MFD's.
Yes. I simply disconnect my work monitor HDMI cable. Then connect my game monitor HDMI cable. Power it on and be sure it is working as my primary monitor. I then power up each Winwing device on the USB HUB one at a time. I usually wait till I hear the windows sound (as in the video) before I power each device on. Then I configure the screens (like in the video) with the windows software and SimAppPro software. Then boot up my TrackIR and launch DCS. Works every time!!!
Thank you sir for a very thorough video! I have been wondering whether these DDI's can be used as an extra display for other aircraft. For example in Mig21Bis there aren't any screens but there is plenty of other instruments. There is Helios for example to show these instruments on other displays. What's your take on this - Could those DDI's show instrumentation of Mig21? PS: I'm a bass player too =)
Oh cool... gotta love the Bass...=) I use the MIP instruments and DDI's on the F16, Warthog and the Apache along with the F18... Nice, can you share the link of your powered usb hub?
question: how many cables does your MIP have? trying to get mine set up and looks like I was shorted a cable.
USB's = 1 for each display (3x), 1 for each MFD (3x) , and one for the UFC & HUD (1x), Thats 7 USB cable for the complete MIP

Your main display is separate from the DDI's... ultra wide would probably be amazing...
USB bandwidth is shared over a hub, for this reason, your pedals might not be able to play nicely, you're asking too much bandwidth from one source

how much is this set up
MIP, Pedals and HOTAS is roughly $2000

The monitors will work on your computer as 3 additional monitors or screens. So that process must be completed first. I hope this helps and sorry I didn't get back sooner...
Thank you
