Gave me confidence to take mine off the car. No start condition. Tested the started on bench found it to be working fine. Cleaned the connectors, face of engine block and starter. Car started without issue. I found the oil leaking from the oil pressure sensor on the top which might have caused ground issue. I will replace the leaking sensor. Mine is 2006 2.4L G6.
Thanks for the video. This helped me so much. Maybe a slight variation on my particular model. But everything was fine. Used my 12v 3/8 ratchet to help me drive all those long screws out. That helped a lot. Letting it hang allowed me to get to that top nut.
All good but sure would have liked to seem to wiring you know how you doing the wiring the ignition and the hot and ground but hell of a good video thank you
Thanks for the vid man. Helped out a Lot! Easy job compared to other cars. I worked in a shop at one time that is one thing I could not stand. A customer hovering over my shoulder. GET YOUR ASS OUTTA HERE . LET ME DO MY JOB. Lol. When I take my truck into Kenworth or my car to a shop I leave those mechanics alone. Ask quick to the point questions afterwards
So do the little wire go under the big red wire then tighten it down? Secondly, does this take place on the the naked bolt or the bolt that also has that little wire running into the starter? I didn’t get to thoroughly look at it before I unplugged it 😖
My girlfriends car won't start, talked to some friends they said its most likely the starter. The weird part is the engine with actually start to smoke as if something is burning. Is that normal or.. ?
A friend and I just changed this on my 06 3.5....The ONLY difference is the ignition quick disconnect. I soooo wish my 06 had that (or at least I didn't see it lol). Do you know if the 06 has the quick disconnect? Getting that part off and especially putting it back back on was the only "tricky" part. This video was very helpful and eased my anxiety of doing this myself to save some money. Would have had to get it towed to and then replaced at a shop. DIY FTW!!! Thanks!!!!!
AAA just said my wife needs a starter in her 08 g6 just wanted t see what was in the way of the job, her last car was a VW Passat, you probably know why an alternator costs 6 to $800 plus the part SERVICE MODE they aught to have the engineers remove those often replaced items so they can redesign it the right way! Thanks for your video lock the door next time you make a video LOL
I have a new starter, do I connect the smaller wire to the silver bolt coming out of the starter? Two of them are brass but one is silver and I’m connecting the smaller wire to the silver bolt and it isn’t starting
What was that 13mm nut holding to that bolt? Was it the positive cable or ground? I'm working on my 08 Pontiac g6 and if I remember correctly both positive and ground were connected to the top bolt. Could you shed some light please?
Replaced the starter on 2009 G6 with help from vid however I get no 12 volt signal from turn in wire from key when ignition turned to start(crank) relays and fuses test ok whats next thanks
so i just changed the starter on my g6 and followed everything, but after i drove the car for a few minutes the battery light is on now. the battery was tested good and the alternator is new. any ideas?
ive seen this issue with cheap parts expecially parts from the zone if you know what i mean so if you got the cheapest part they offer which most of the time is what the person at the counter offers you without asking its very possible the new alternator is no good
the wires on the larger nut go to the battery fuse box and alternator ,the wire on the small nut goes to the starter relay in the battery fuse block thats how all cars pretty much go.

Thank you so much for this video. My son and I were able to grab all of our sockets and other tools before starting the job reducing hassle. It was really easy to get the starter out to get it bench tested because we both watched this video prior to starting the job. The little wire connector was a little tricky, but it finally popped apart without any tools. One question: at the start of the video, you mention that there's a splash shield that goes over the starter that you had already removed. This shield is missing on my son's car and the starter we took off was a gunky mess. We'd like to get a new or used shield to protect the new starter. 2 years ago was a while but it should be online as your year make and model it’s called the “skid plate” or like you said a “splash guard” shouldn’t be hard. I could recommend pull-a-parts because there seems to be a handful of g6 at those
My 2009 2.4 g6 won’t start and also bought a ecm for it and still won’t start any solutions? I got codes coming from the ecm that’s why I had to replace
hi I am looking at the starter for Pontiac g6 2006 I am seeing sparks from the starter area I noticed exposed silver braided wire? not insulated? I am sure this where its sparking at
My starter seems to be stuck, has anyone ever had the starter's gears get stuck in the fly wheel? I would sincerely appreciate any advise or suggestions.
Bro i got a question i went ahead and orderd a starter and heres the thing there was a starter that was universal it fit a pontiac vibe,g6,and i think a gand am and that 1 was 30 bux and for 50 bux there was just the 1 that fit a g6 ( and thats the 1 i should have gotten but to try and save 20 bux i totally f-up) ok so my old man went ahead and did it to this day idk wy i let him i mean he has done like 5 or 6 starters b4 so i thought nothing of it anyways he goes ahead and tells me that ya tje starter fits but on the connections 1 is different and he has to cut of like a speaker wire type connection and rig up another little piece i dont make much of anyways now the starter is on i tske a drive in it amd once the engine has warmed up the vehicle stops and wont start back up bcoz as soon as ya put it in drive it stalls bak out not omce its cooled off u can go ahead and drive it again until tje engine warms up again tjen poof again iy stalls i went ahead and wrapped all the wires in plastic tubing that is hest proof and nothing like i said i have never had any transmission issues amd this problem all sarted as soon as he changed out the starter bro and idk wut to do except msybe go ahead and order the 50 dollar starter just meant for this car or did he mess up something minor that i can fix now as i habe the car on ramps i was looking at it amd a thin wire that is red he has it tied up to the blk wire that comez out from the starter which i think is the ground wire could tbat be tje problem? pls help me out with this brother idk wut to do here.
what i mean is the starter has the inout for 2 bolts top and bottom and between both bolts tjere is like a little flathead tip kinda like a speaker input and the red wire coming from the car pops attached to that little piece iam tellin ya about bro and idk if that what is csusing the problem
tjere is no blk wire coming from the starter he just tied the red 1 to like a piece if blk wire and that is connected to the piece in between the 2 bolts on the starter idk if thst is the ignition switch? but like i mentioned once the engine is warmed up the car stalls and wont move till the engine cools off ,,and i never had any tranny problems or anything b4 wutever it is had to do with this starter. any advice would be greatfull brotha.
well i would say since the car cranks at cold the starter is wired correctly does it crank when its hot but doesnt start and 30 bucks is super cheap for a starter i wouldnt even trust the 50 one
HELPPP! My GF jump started this same car backwards +to- ..says battery poles became red hot, I'm sure the Alternator is fine but l can't locate the FUSE or any burnt wires ! :( ps..its a 100% new battery
Thanks guys I was able take it with a little struggle 😂 first time I did it I mean I am smart I am doit guy I can doit but when it’s first time you struggle you know 😂 but it’s outa and it’s rusty I can tell forsure it’s starter because car won’t turn on and I did boost battery still nothing so it’s starter forsure
the vehicle wont crank over lol sometimes they will make a clicking noise almost like the battery is dead if you test the small wire going to the battery when someone is cranking and you get power but the car doesnt crank then the starter is bad
Does it matter how you put the wires back on the starter? I know that sounds stupid but I just replaced my starter and it ran good for a day then it started to not crank randomly and now it won't crank at all.
For someone who doesnt know much about cars like myself you might wanna show the parts that you took off and are putting back on to the camera, step by step cause i cant even see anything of what you're doing.
from the second comment you made i can tell you dont know much about cars so ill explain you asked if we are looking from underneath the car technically yes but no what we do here is flip the car over onto its roof so everything is easy to get to and to keep anything from falling into the vehicle we use a giant magnet so im not actually dropping tools they are getting sucked up to the magnet .

I have 06 g6. It's a locking washer not quick disconnect
So I just replaced the starter in my 08 g6 I did the same steps showed in the video and no my g6 makes a loud humming noise from starter please help

I have a new starter, do I connect the smaller wire to the silver bolt coming out of the starter? Two of them are brass but one is silver and I’m connecting the smaller wire to the silver bolt and it isn’t starting
I have the same question. Did you ever figure it out???
I had a question in others videos they disconect the negative in the batery . so thats my question do I had to disconect it?
if you dont and you ground out the power you could damage something else out in the system
Ummm thats different than mine the 07 2.4 has a top paper filter not a drop out filter from the bottom
If the wires on the starter isn't connected correctly would the starter still start?
no it wouldnt start
What was that 13mm nut holding to that bolt? Was it the positive cable or ground? I'm working on my 08 Pontiac g6 and if I remember correctly both positive and ground were connected to the top bolt. Could you shed some light please?
Top bolt is positive the ground is the bottom bolt. But it’s grounded to itself so don’t stress the ground
Replaced the starter on 2009 G6 with help from vid however I get no 12 volt signal from turn in wire from key when ignition turned to start(crank) relays and fuses test ok whats next thanks
start by checking your feed wire at the ignition
so i just changed the starter on my g6 and followed everything, but after i drove the car for a few minutes the battery light is on now. the battery was tested good and the alternator is new. any ideas?

I have some wires hanging at the bottom near my starter could u post a video about those
Is this the same for the 2010? Cause my oil filter in on top and it’s a canister filter not a spin on
no its similar but its not the same
Thanks changed it by myself your awesome!!
Where does that green cable come from ? Mines was cut but don’t know where does it go
the wires on the larger nut go to the battery fuse box and alternator ,the wire on the small nut goes to the starter relay in the battery fuse block thats how all cars pretty much go.
Bro you saved me so Much My Guy, thank you
Aye bro How many wires did you Connect to the 13mm or the 14mm bolt ???
2
@@uglyhp8225 You attached the green wire too the 13mm first Right ?
i dont think its gonna make a difference which one is connected first
Thanks Rusty...going to make my daughters new boyfriend do this one...lol thanx
Did he do it?
Any chance this is the same procedure for an 07 G6 with the 2.4L?

How did you remove the cables? I can't see what you did to remove them.
He said they have a Quick disconnect on the back. Most likely pinch and pull
Which terminal does the wire from the alternator go onto?
the terminal the battery positive goes to its one of the 2 bigger ones the terminal that has a cable that runs into the starter is not the one
ugly HP thanks
I know its old but Im going through this on my 09 and I can not get to the top bolt

The cover is black up against the transmission its gonna have 3 10mm bolts holding it once thats removed you will have alot more room
Yes, i have 2006 4 Cyl G6 and it doesn't have any cover. The starter is held by two 15mm bolts.

Are we looking from underneath the car?
Roger Dominguez yes that is next to the oil filter
Okay I’m gonna attempt to do this tomorrow hope I don’t fuck up 😩🤦🏾♀️
How do you disconnect the ignition right at the start? It just pops right off for you but I can’t figure out what the mechanism is for removing it.
Got it. There was a clip on the backside I had to pry away.
That’s one clean looking engine
Compared to mine it looks new.

only the ground wire

What size socket did he say To use.
this model will have either a 13mm or 15mm ive seen both sizes on gm not sure if they just change in between models or years
I changed my starter and it still doesn't turn over? Any solutions
check your fuses and make sure you have power at the purple wire when cranking
Another reason - gear shift position sensors went bad. Computer thinks its not on park or neutral and not allow to start
