I had a fathomless warlock/tempest cleric who’s warlock patron was a leviathan that lived in a rimmed mountain, holding a vast and deep inland sea… that was slowly going dry thanks to global warming. So, he was sent on a mission to strengthen bonds with a god of rain, to petition them into establishing a permanent rainfall over the mountain. It was nice to have a friendly warlock patron who just needed help and really disliked the eldritch profiling that they received. It was also the first time i had a character be devoted to multiple powers, which was quite fun to explore.
One of the most overlooked benefits of the Fathomless Warlock is Guardian Coil. As a Reaction, after you or your ally within ten feet of your Tentacle of the Deep take damage, prevent 1d8, eventually 2d8, damage. Keep in mind the EXACT WORDING: When you or a creature you can see within ten feet of your tentacle TAKES DAMAGE, you can use your reaction to reduce it. It doesn’t say reduce the damage dealt, it says once they take damage, reduce the damage to that creature. This is important, because this means you can choose to apply it before, or after, Resistance or Vulnerability. Be your Bear Totem Barbarian’s best friend.
Fathomless has some interesting ideas. I do like the controlling route. Slowing effects without saves would be fun. Telekinetic, Crusher, Ray of Frost, etc just be the annoying guy.
Absolutely concur with this and Genie being my favorite Warlock patrons. Not even necessarily mechanically (well...yes, mechanically too, but I didn't put your level of thought into it - I just saw "easily transportable pocket dimension" and "ability to breath and survive water's cold and crushing pressure" and fell in love), but just the scope of potential patrons. My current fathomless projects are a plasmoid who's convinced they're a materially-trapped water elemental (patron: Ben-Hadar, elemental prince of water) and an Owlin armorer artificer underwater archaeologist who prefers swimming to flying (patron, requiring DM approval: an ancient topaz dragon, who's happy for a treasure/squid delivery service that doesn't require getting wet).

@youmightbeadnd I have rewatched this at least five times now. Thanks for making this. Just know, content like this helps pierce the dark that is my current struggle with depression.
If you as a DM really want to see the fathomless warlock get the most out of fathomless plunge and get up to some serious shenanigans, give them a decanter of endless water and a wand or blessing that gives them the mold earth cantrip. Preferably before level 5.
Crab themed. All the tentacles become crab claws, take levels in Wizard for the Necromancer subclass, animate undead crab legions. Call him the Crabomancer.
I absolutely love this subclass! I have a Pact of the Chain Sea Elf Fathomless Warlock I bring to a lot of one-shots. She plays up the charisma side of things by being a musician who got rejected from bard colleges for not having all the other bard skills. Her familiar is an imp that was true polymorphed into a squid she calls Mr. Cuddles (his actual name is Grover). She's so much fun to play ☺

Once played a pvp one-shot, capture the flag. Played a Fathomless Warlock / Giant Barbarian (Pact of the Blade + stuff like mirror image and armor of agathys). To quote me during that session; "I AM THE RAID BOSS"
I made a Pact of the Tome Fathomless W with the ritual invocation. He's very much inspired by the drowned priests of the Iron Islands in Game of Thrones.
I'd like to nominate Path of the Depths Barbarian for the Kraken themed thing that's going around. It is technically official and was made by wotc and as a LoL Bilgewater crossover with a group of subclasses. Was on DnDB but removed for unknown reasons but can find it on sites like wikidot etc.
Honesrtly combining this with summon Shadow Spawn with the Despair option to further cut off movement by using the souls of Davy Jones locker to further hold things dowm can just break a boss fight by robbing it of literally all of its movement with no saves whatso ever. Combine this with your friendly wizard casting silence, and you turn your forever dm into a forever player. Try it, if ya land lovers dare.
I have been COOKING with this subclass. Made a Yuan-ti pureblood character that multiclassed into way of mercy monk. Named this character “the sea serpent” by flavoring the tentacles as snakes out eels. With all the oceanic potential and all the “storm magic” the potential is endless.
