Definitely do this with Bard of Creation or Bard of Dance. Creation, you can make a bunch of taxidermized corpses. Dance, you'd have advantage on Dance.
Remember to take the inspiring leader feat to use on your undead to give them temp HP. And as RP try to act it out.... Can you do a good MJ impression? Or a bad one?
Doing an MJ impression is easy. But if you really want to commit, you gotta do a Vincent Prince impression and narrate what you and your zombies do in his voice
Undead Warlock madly in love with his badass vampire wife who's teaching him how to DIY his way into the powers of undeath without actually being undead. I am, of course, describing Gomez Addams.
So fun fact, Rules as Written Necrotic Husk still works even if you're hit by say Disintegrate. Really the only spell that kills you once you get Necrotic Husk is Power Word: Kill (You don't get reduced to 0 Hit points, you just die) but the spells that kill you if you're reduced to 0 don''t kill you
I imagine you are either a pile of dust and reconstitute in your form of dreadesque visage to “oh no; they are right behind me aren’t they”. Or as your form is slowly broken apart; you pull an avatar Aang and lock in to simply not die
I think a ghostslayer bloodhunter/undead warlock with GOTELO and gift of the metalic dragon makes for a fun counter intuitive build in a gestalt campaign.
I actually multiclassed this with an oath of the open sea paladin. My character was a sailor on a pirate ship when his captain and crew were attacked. The captain and his crew were all cursed so the few survivors either left or became warlocks, taking on the dread form of a ghostly pirate, hat and all.
My Signature Undead Warlock build: The Heedless Horseman *Race:* Any, though I went Shadar-Kai for appropriate edginess. *Pact Boon:* Pact of the Tome - Take Shillelagh as one of your cantrips - Maybe take Shocking Grasp, just in case *Patron Spells:* Make sure to choose Phantom Steed when it becomes available (or in the 2024 Warlock, you just get it for free, _like you always should have before)_ *4th or 8th level Feat (or 1st for V. Human/Custom Lineage):* Mounted Combatant Darkness and Shadow of Moil are both decent choices for this build, but they aren't entirely necessary. Cast Phantom Steed, cast Shillelagh (or use one of your other cantrips, etc.). With 100 feet of movement speed atop your Phantom Steed, haul ass into battle, activate your Form of Dread and then use that frightened condition to reduce the chance of taking an opportunity attack. This pairs with the Mounted Combatant feat by letting you force them to target you if they target your Phantom Steed, as well as letting it take zero damage from passed Dexterity save effects like Fireball.
My undead warlock is an apprentice to the grim reaper, his contrqct is that after his death he'll take over for the grim reaper so that the grim reaper can retire and have peace. Pact of the blade, fights with a scythe.
I'm a big hexblade warlock fan, but undead warlock Is maybe my second favourite patrons that you can choose. I played a shadar-kai undead warlock detective called "Dante" inspired by the same italian poet and was very funny all the run that i had with him.
@@Merilirem I actually multiclassed for four levels in swashbuckler rogue. Luckily the swashbuckler also works for a Blaster caster like my Dante, who had taken a revolver as his pact weapon.
All time favorite build of mine is 9 levels conquest paladin + 3 levels of undead warlock + anything else you want…its so much control and great damage!
Be a centaur, let one party member borrow your phantom steed, carry another, horse around. Scare your DM from ever letting combat happen in open spaces. Remind them you can still turn into a spooky ghost centaur and stampede through pesky walls.
Maybe instead of covering the subclasses that don’t butter your bread, you could do a roundup video that covers those which you wouldn’t commit a whole video to? Thanks for making these, stay well dude!
A surprisingly good multiclass for Unread Warlock is 3 levels of Zealot Barbarian. Stack that Necrotic damage, throw on a couple Eldritch Smites and you're cranking out nutty damage
Okay but let's seriously talk about Goku as your patron (we'll say he's a spirit with the little halo he has after he dies to Cell) Eldritch Blast = Ki Blast Phantasmal Force = psyching your opponent out with murderous intent or strong ki Phantom steed = Nimbus Death Ward = Senzu Bean Greater Invisibility = Opponent hit your after image Form of Dread = Super Saiyan
I had fun with this once. My character was part of a mercenary band and we were tasked with killing cultists. We were wiped out but my commander managed to take in the wicked power of the cultist ritual and became a vampire. Lying at deaths door he bit me and I became a Dhampyr and inherented a fraction of his new power(undead warlock). Turns out we were set up and he snapped. Goes out to avenge his family and mercenary band and I end up leaving due to his now literal cutthroat approach to anything. Was supposed to face him later on in the campaign when I was stronger but sadly the campaign got canceled. Saved the character though just in case I find a good campaign to use him in.
I love the flavoring you can do with this subclass. I went with a half elf who is a graffiti artist and made a pact with a mummy lord, so when he goes into his form of dread, multicolored sigils cover his body as well as the bandages that come out of his body to make him look like he came right out of Dia de los muertos.
I played one of these in a Curse of Strahd campaign and they also make a surprisingly good tank if you take pact of the blade. The temp HP means you can soak up a fair amount of damage at higher levels and the extra damage dice stacked with the Sunsword’s hatred of undead so I was doing near smite levels of damage every time I hit someone with an attack
I always like the idea of an unwitting undead warlock. Maybe they accidentally found the remnant of a lich's soul jar and have become partially possessed by the lich's sprit.
Undead Bladelock, riding on their Phantom Steed, holding their Pact Weapon in one hand, and a Jack O Lantern in the other, while using an Illusion Spell to make their head invisible. To make a frightening performance to scare away people. (The Warlocks buddies could add some extra flair with noises and spells)
While the eldritch blast warlock is pretty cool, I’m really into a melee focused burst build with booming/green flame blade. Spirit projection turning your massive bursts into extremely respectable heals allows you to stay in the fight, on top of having a couple revives with death ward and your own cheat death ability. (Side note, the new one dnd stuff buffing life drinker and the false life invocation makes this build even sillier)
yeah honestly i love this subclass for the Form of Dread feature favor, like just go full goth magical girl transformation scene on your foes. Also one of those where i do really want to use the 2024 rules just for Skeleton Familiar hijinks alone.
Hear me out; Servant of a vampire lord (Dracula or Vampire Genghis Khan) who's more "guardian of his people" than "undead butcher cursed by God and hated by Men".
Love the vid. Personally I think the Genie Warlock (Dao) is a better Eldritch Blast chassis. Spike Growth + forced movement = fun arse cheese grating action. 😈
There's a build with the subclass that I've been racking in my brain for a little while instead of making a blaster caster we bite the bullet and we take pack to the blade take a freaking great axe and with the new 2024 rules be casually take a bonus to our damage we are charisma model with agonizing blast boom we're dealing 2D12+1d8+str+chr by level 5 it's amazing
Wanna hear about another fun option for this subclass? If you're a bladelock and pick a greataxe as your pact weapon, you can make one of your two attacks a 2d12 damage hit, not including any other buffs you might have!
For mine I went 1 level divine soul sorcerer level 1. Gives a couple of level 1 slots to work with, access to cleric spells, con proficiency, and favored by the gods. For 2d4 1 tien per short rest to any missed save or attack roll. Con saves secured I then went into undead warlock for vampiric touch. Because all of the effects you get are for one damage roll per turn I didn’t take eb instead going to maximize a single damage roll. Again vampiric touch. Playing into the chunky caster thing this subclass gives you. Bonus temp hit points, frightened making attacks against you at disadvantage, turning half the damage you deal in necrotic into health, and turning any damage you deal into necrotic, with bonus damage. This is the front line melee caster imo. Also went chain, because that imp can cast my melee spells through it, as a reaction. Go invise, run up, my turn cast vampiric touch, reaction cast it through the imp, next turn they use thei action to go invis again.
@DParkerNunya I regret that I must vehemently disagree with you, friend. The U*****g Warlock is a blasphemous disgrace worse than the "upgraded" Ranger class. Also, justice for Rangers.
Solid subclass, especially if you start as a Death Cleric to lvl 6/8 for that bump and ability to overcome necrotic resistant badies and then go Undead Warlock!
Playing in a campaign that will probably go on to level 20 and beyond. Im planning on multiclassing my sorcerer into this for levels 18 through 20. It's only a 3 level dip but i think it would be funny to force about 3 or more wisdom saves with scorching ray. Additionally since my build is designed to machinegun out spells faster than my dad running to the store to get milk with us ignoring the "1 leveled spell a turn" rule (because its dumb), I'll be able to crank out like 3 of those a turn with the help of quickened spell and twinned spell. Side effect: I didnt mention that im a wild magic sorcerer so i may very well explode. but a wild magic surge will likely just straight up improve the overall outcome.
Love this subclass for a character idea of mine. It slots in so well. Though our DM is intent on using the new 2024 PHB. Is there a good way to make this subclass work in the 2024 PHB rules or am I better off trying to figure out a different char/build?

Warlock contract doubling as a marriage contract is an underrated concept. And your version is especially fun

One possible patron for the Undead warlock could also be Pale Night. She's got a stronghold made of bones for crying out loud!

My undead warlock is an apprentice to the grim reaper, his contrqct is that after his death he'll take over for the grim reaper so that the grim reaper can retire and have peace. Pact of the blade, fights with a scythe.
I multiclassed monk kensei with undead warlock , pretty thematic .

No, do all of them
I thought you said pirate sea monsters and I got excited. Not Pirates, And Sea monsters. I now need pirate sea monsters in my life.
"Macabre Ingenuity" sounds like it should be the name of a feat or class ability
For this subclass, I’d suggest using the “Shadar-Kai” as the race, then pair it with the “Haunted One” background and the “Shadow Touched” feat.
3:50 I love this clip, it came from my hometown lol

Dick Cheney?

He's not only undead, he's got immunity to poisons, not just poison resistance.
This is thematically wonderful with Oathbreaker Paladin of your DM allows it.
All this talk of death has me wondering when you'll talk about the Way of Long Death Monk
Okay but let's seriously talk about Goku as your patron (we'll say he's a spirit with the little halo he has after he dies to Cell)
Eldritch Blast = Ki Blast
Phantasmal Force = psyching your opponent out with murderous intent or strong ki
