I saw the tiktok video and the way that officer sounded honestly would have worried me if I was on the other side of that door. His using the word bro might have been his way of trying to calm the classroom full of terrified students but it actually could have caused even more serious problems because of their panic they climbed out a window into a courtyard and had to reenter the school. The word bro brought them all to their feet and they immediately headed for the window. Perhaps announcing their name and badge number would be a better way to handle it, those students have cell phones and could have verified it was indeed a police officer at the door. The video was beyond heartbreaking to watch.

So sad to see this happen. Not gonna pass blame because this suspect did absolutely wrong 100%! I feel the school however, truly messed up. Concerning enough for 2 meetings day after day? I'm a teacher myself and I'm saying this... it's not common anywhere I have taught for over 15 years. The school should have had some sort of contact with law enforcement as an escalation step. It wasn't just..this kid was bad a few days before the shooting and suddenly just decided to come to school and kill. There is a whole middle part there we aren't getting. These things don't just simply "happen". There were leading signs or red flags prior to this. The school kept information from law enforcement they didn't know until after the fact that they just discussed. If the school took ALL appropriate steps and action...this probably could have been prevented!!!

As a parent my heart breaks for the parents and families of not only the victims but for the entire school families. All were traumatized by this. As a former educator, I agree 100%. There are always indicators. In this particular case, there were 2 glaring red flags that have been publicized. Most likely, there were many more. The teachers alerted the administration twice in close succession. Admin insists there was no call for "disciplinary action." In my experience, most admins are concerned about political aspects, test scores and sports status and things other than the mental/emotional health of the student body. This sheriff is more articulate and aware than most. I appreciate how trauma-aware he is. I have a hard time believing that this kid wasn't on the radar--somewhere. He certainly was on at least 2 teacher's radar and they acted quickly on very disturbing behavior. I thought schools these days checked backpacks? Yes, in a country where there are more guns than citizens and a gun culture, our precious children continue to die. Insane.
