1:50 For device like tablet I would say everything below 400 nits defeats purpose of tablet. You cannot move around freely with screen dimmer than that because you wont see anything or it wont be comfortable in many cases.
It's a really cool device. I love the capability of having a such portability with performance, and the ability to add performance when needed. I'd love have a laptop style keyboard attachment in addition to the tablet keyboard with kickstand. It's great if you have internet issues, data caps, or no internet and need to travel to get updates. I think the perfect product is just around the corner. If they could have gotten a 3060 or even a 3070 in the tablet itself and was able to play RDR2 at 60 fps ultra settings with no issues, it would be an absolute beast of a machine. A real desktop replacement with amazing portability and functionality. I can't wait for the next model of this, and I really hope this one sells well so we can get a great next model.
This is a great product, but the prices they are flouting around are jokes. The i9 is 400$ more expensive than last years x13, and i5 is probably going to be 400$ more expensive than surface pro, which is already very pricy. These are already extremely portable products, so it's the price of portability argument is invalid. Asus clearly missed the mark with pricing.

However, one year on and this laptop has some heavy discounts now (~USD1000) so I picked one up. I think at this price, with the ability to put in an older or newer XG Mobile GPU it might be a bargain. Hey, I just purchased this device and got it last week. I have noticed that when I run cinebench r23 I get significantly different results if I use the Armoury crate software set to eco mode to disable the dgpu or if I leave it standard. It seems when I leave the gpu enabled my multicore scores differ anywhere from 9k-14k. In eco mode it is more consistent and generally achieves 12k-16k multicore. I also noticed the cpu will rapidly adjust from 80 degrees at very high ghzs and jump down to 60 degrees running below 1ghz with it jumping back and fourth. Is that something you encountered, do I have a bad unit, or are the drivers just not solidified yet to keep consistency? With the 3050 it can probably upscale late console emulation too. Could be the best portable PS2 released yet.

Amazing! But 13" is too small for gaming for me. With an external monitor would be great tho
For $1900 without the XG mobile, you can do better for an enternal monitor.
@@bfish9700 you are totally right ngl
Best buy has a 6900HS already listed of the z13 which is only 100$ more expensive than x13, it isn't avaible yet though. I think the 6900S is way better than the i9 cuz the battery life will be better than even last year model
Some early reviews seem to hint at the 6900 cpu in the g14 was running hot. And that was with a vapor chamber and liquid metal. So it would be wise to see some user reviews to see if they fix that before spending your hard earned money.
1:50 For device like tablet I would say everything below 400 nits defeats purpose of tablet. You cannot move around freely with screen dimmer than that because you wont see anything or it wont be comfortable in many cases.
Its 500 nits
You can use the Nvidia RTX voice as well for background noise removal.
Really looking forward to the g14 review
I really love the low temperatures. Would choose this instead of most laptops only because of this.
This is a great product, but the prices they are flouting around are jokes. The i9 is 400$ more expensive than last years x13, and i5 is probably going to be 400$ more expensive than surface pro, which is already very pricy. These are already extremely portable products, so it's the price of portability argument is invalid. Asus clearly missed the mark with pricing.
surface pro is just an ultrabook with u-series CPU, think about the analogy of MacBook air vs MacBook pro both portable but you can charge more for more performance
@@woshikakadong I don't know much about Apple shenanigans, but MacBook pro has a gpu afaik, and is a completely different class of product that Appleheads like comparing to gaming laptops. I don't think having just an H class cpu does not turn this into a full fledged gaming laptop. Last years x13 had an R9 cpu as well, and it was sold for 1500$. From what I understand from overseas prices, the egpu used to cost 1500$, and probably not too many people bought it last year, so this year the laptop costs another 500$, and the egpu is "500$ cheaper".
Don't like this at all. I think I'll go with another brand, especially if there will be any ryzen tablets. I think their power band suits this class of machines better
@@LeFatalpotato I dont know about Microsoft shenanigans, but if there exist a surface pro with H series cpu and gtx3050ti, i can guarantee Microsoft will price it higher than current surface pro
@@woshikakadong yeah, the problem is, would it be 1900$?
Currently, i5 surface pro is selling for 900$. The problem with this device is that it is a lot more expensive than anything similar in performance/form factor, including last years almost identical model, x13, which sold for 1500$ for the top model.
Might be powerful, but it’s also expensive as hell, the lack of upgradability has it on a ticking clock, and if the XG mobile is just as cumbersome to use as it was on the X13, I’m not all that interested in picking it up again.
It's cool that you covered it, but I can't see any future that I would buy this. If extreme portability is most important then something like a steam deck would game on the go better, and a 14" laptop would be way more usable for productivity.
extremely thorough and effective review
Excellent review, thank u👍
this thing looks so freaking cool in my dorm room. i have 2 innoview 15inch monitorson vesa mount on either side. mine has the rtx 350 it gets my needs taken care of. studying ,photography, and i play classic wow. as happy as i am with the z13 i would get the 2021 macbook pro 14 now that its on sell
Thanks for the video. I've been watching this laptop for a while as I value the unique portability but agreed the price at release seemed a little high. However, one year on and this laptop has some heavy discounts now (~USD1000) so I picked one up. I think at this price, with the ability to put in an older or newer XG Mobile GPU it might be a bargain. It still seems unique in its size/power/portability and hiping that older gen i9 will still keep it relevant for a few more years.
Came here to say I love the In Flames T-shirt. 🤘😎🤘

Still can’t wait for the new g14 & new legion reviews
Looking forward to your review of the new TUF line up. Also hoping for a review of the updated flow x13.
Isn't this the updated flow x 13?
@@justarandomguy8099 No, there’s an updated version. Ryzen 9 6000 series. Doesn’t look massively different to last iteration with 3050ti. There’s also an xg mobile with Ryzen RX6850m.
@@danielhirst3151 wow I didn't know that thank you for informing me.
Might honestly get this and the EGPU. Such a cool device and could be future proofed if they keep releasing egpu upgrades
Sorry for the long comment but I really love this device and want to keep it, but I want to make sure that I don't have a defective unit.
how is the battery for general use?
I wondering if we can recharge at least stand the charge by a regular usb A/Usb type C cable?
Funny. I didn't notice you were saying sponsor message until it was almost over :D what a seamless transition. edit: Can't wait to see upcoming 6000 laptops reviews
Can you compare it with the macbook air M1?
In terms of battery life and performance on battery which one do you prefer?
and can you compare the XG Mobile with NVIDIA 3080 with RX 6850M XT in the future?
macbooks are not good for gaming
@@truthseeker6804 yes i know it but for editing like premire pro or after effect or 3d modeling, which one is the best between both laptops?
@@kknmitkelompok3889 you have to check if all the programs you use can run natively on the MacBook, if they can then go for MacBook because probably more battery. But tablet is versatile tho, I’m typing to you now on my iPad as I lay on my bed, can’t do that it easily with my Laptop
@@truthseeker6804 ok 2 in 1 tablet/laptop very versatile. which is a plus point to ROG Flow Z13
could you use a more up to date linux os? something like endeavorOS or Manjaro. Ubuntu uses older kernel which sometimes could mean no hardware enablement to support the newest hardware. something like endeavorOS on the other hand, has a more up to date kernel for iso on live cd (they release new iso every new month or so).
This is just so beautiful.
I love the metal band shirts bro!
love this form factor, probably the best for a gaming laptop, better airflow, better exhaust with keyboard easily removeable so that you don't have to use that awful laptop keyboard for game
As soon as this is available in Oz I'm gonna put in a preorder, to be used as my portal workstation
Jarrod, did you prefer this to the flow x13? I think at this size I'm more attracted to a ryzen 6000 cpu for efficiency. I didn't know if you had a view over which was the better implementation
Hmm I didn't really mind either as a laptop, probably X13 for laptop mode as you don't need the kick stand which is a pain in some scenarios like on your lap. As a tablet though X13 not as good as you are holding the keyboard and it feels a bit weird.
@@JarrodsTech thank you Jarrod, makes sense. I think I lean toward the laptop but the z13 definitely looks more badass 😎 tough call
This is definitely a niche product, but it seems like it would be good for a traveler who plays a lot of controller based games because then you don't even need the keyboard hanging off it. With the 3050 it can probably upscale late console emulation too.
Could be the best portable PS2 released yet.
" or i'm going blind, i mean it's possible, i look at a lot of RGB " this one get's me LOL
They need to kill the SKU with the dGPU completely, change from the tablet form factor to a 14" 2 in 1 and move most of the ports, especially their PCI Connector to the back = perfect machine
I would love to see them put a Ryzen 6800HS in this thing. eGPU or no, portable 1080p gaming in a Surface form factor would be dope.
Exactly. We can hope for flow x13 2022 can do this
@@green_block I mean yes 2900 must include the egpu. Have you checked the 6000 series gaming performance? It can run 60hz on full HD on many games already. Similar to 3050. With Ryzen 6000 series + egpu, hopefully drop price to 2700 would be sweeter
@@green_block well it wouldn't chat that much then, since they wouldn't integrate a dGPU into the design at all. Basically I'm saying that even something like the next generation of Surface products, if they're willing to go HS rather than U, have an amazing value proposition (provided they can handle the thermals)
It’s a really good product, albeit pricy, but like you said, it’s not for everyone.
They couldn't run USB 3 to that A port via a ribbon cable?
Not a bad gaming tab with the 3050, but I wouldn't waste my money getting the external GPU, much cheaper getting a laptop or desktop.
will buy this 15" with VESA/Tripod Socket on the back
Just bought one today i7-12700H 16GB 3050 to replace a surface pro8 LTE. Now I just need to get a hotspot! Just on the fence about a 3090 in an EGPU or the 3080 XG Mobile.
6:11 One storage port that may have been missed in the review was the Micro SD card slot beneath the kickstand.
Good point. I didn't mention it there, but it is discussed and shown at 18:33
@@JarrodsTech I done missed that part and I don’t know how I did🤣. That is pretty dang good performance though like you mentioned and might be good enough to run games off of in a pinch once the SSD starts to get low on storage.
Good job
Btw plz make a video about the required system for 3d modeling and if a gaming laptop for example can meet the needs
And also about different display aspect ratios like 16×10 and 16×9 etc and the benefits of each
Tnk u so much
Thanks Jarrod on your vids.
I've finally bought my own legion 5 laptop for content creation and general business use 😁😁
It just sucks that the PH model gets the cheapest options when it comes to ram and wifi card chips but nevertheless it can be upgraded down the line...

Thanks for the great video! Only the 4K version comes with the XG Mobile 3080. If I get it and set the resolution to FHD, do you think the battery life & game FPS will be close to the version you’re reviewing? (Don’t care about then4K 60hz refresh as the 3050Ti + small screen size won’t make it too practical for gaming!)
Same question..
Gaming performance should be much the same if you lower the resolution, though battery life might differ a bit as the panel will probably have different brightness levels.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks so much for your insight. I pre-ordered the 4K version as it’s the only option that comes with the 3080 XGM in the UK market. I figured that it’s a bit silly to play games on such a small screen so I wanted more of an iPad display experience. Again, thanks for responding!!
I bought the 1920x1200 120 Hz screen, came with XG Mobile 3080
Hey jarrods, can you take a look at the ACER NITRO 5 AN515-57-98VC. It packed a core i9-11900H, rtx3060, and 16gb of ram. Too good to be true for the price point, if you can get your hands on the laptop it would definetly interesting seeing the quality of it.

It would be perfect if it runs Ryzen 6000 series, the early review of Ryzen 6000 series has a superb efficiency which really fit the "tablet" scenario. I might consider X13 if it the option to get Ryzen version.
The Asus ROG Flow X13 does have Ryzen. The Asus Z13 does not.
@@celinek2690 yup, that is why it's kinda dilemma choosing between the two. At one side, I'm amazed with the tablet / laptop scenario from Z13, but Ryzen efficiency is a big yes in a portable scenario.
@@ValentinoNicko I own both. I bought the Asus X13 in September 2021 and use it for my school. The portability and battery efficiency is definitely better. I use the Asus Z13 at home with the XG mobile. The Z13 combined with the XG mobile runs faster than without it. If you are having a toss up then go with the X13. Cheaper, has Ryzen, similar MPP touch screen with 120Hz (or 4k option). Both same RAM, storage, and comes with the RTX 3050 Ti. In the US you can sometimes find the model on sale at Best Buy for $1249.99 before tax for the X13.
Now the question has to come up. Will Asus make this in a size for adults?
Hey Jarrod, the legion 5 pro (with RTX 3070) is out of stock in my country. Wanted your opinion on good alternatives to it that are close to it in terms of performance. So far I have narrowed down my search to three laptops (which are in stock in my country):
1) ASUS strix G15 advantage edition
2) HP omen 15 (with ryzen 7 and RTX 3070)
3) HP omen 16 (with 11th gen intel core i7 and RTX 3070 max-q)
I am a little concerned about the durability and reliability of ASUS laptops and also the after-sales service.
With omen 15, the problem is the low power limit of the GPU (100W) and a lack of a MUX switch.
I read somewhere that omen 16 has a MUX switch and higher power limit of 115W (not sure about the power limit, will need to confirm if its true).
All things considered, do you think omen 16 would be the best choice among the 3 laptops that I have listed?
def go w strix
Hello, I have seen your video since in principle I plan to acquire this product. Hello again, I'm about to push the button for this tablet /laptop, in part for your review. But I was wondering if it's possible to use another power brick, more compact without so many cables. A Power brick and cable, but without a third long cable. Thank you and sorry for the weird question.
Another 100 watt power brick, that's my question.
I'm not sure what you mean by third long cable. The brick it comes with comes with one type-c cable that connects to it. In theory, it should work but asus have said they limit charger support, so they might not give it full power.
@@JarrodsTech alright, I meant a more portable power brick, with only one cable. Alright, I'll check it out after I purchase it. Your reviews are quite good, thanks
Nice video , really entertaining. I was wondering if we can recharge at least stand the charge by a regular usb A/Usb type C cable?
So heres the thing, the upgrade over the X13 is minimal but the price difference is huge, I can get the X13 for £1150 now with the 5800hs, 16gb, 1TB and 3050TI, the Z13 is £1899 for the basic model...sure the CPU is fairly faster but the main difference is the form factor....is it worth a £750 premium?
That is a good question. I was able to get a discount on the Asus ROG Flow X13 but still am contemplating purchasing the Asus Z13 as my main home setup.

Are you looking for the ryzen or the Intel model? I think ryzens upgrades are slim enough that you can get away with last year's model if they have 200$+ price difference. But alder lake is so much better than last years model, if you're looking for top of the line gaming performance, I would wait for it.

Jerrod, any comment on the CPU dipping to 1.0GHz making some games completely annoying to play? It'll go from 3ghz to 1ghz making it seem like you're constantly unplugging the charger. 60+fps and a really smooth experience to 25-30 for a few seconds and then it just repeats like that. Does this in Rust and Elden Ring.
I bought an XG mobile 3080 direct from Asus, arrived DOA... sent in for RMA, one month later they sent it back with "no problem found".
