    Man, this is a very good and easy to understand introduction to termal issues on mobile devices.
    I really appreciate it.
    And I have a personal story to share: I had the RoG 3, which still runs Genshin Impact quiet well nowadays but it gets uncomfortably hot to touch. Now, I switched to a RoG 8, after almost 4 years, and I'm very impressed. It is an efficient phone for daily tasks, the "slow" charge speed is 30w and I can't make it get hotter than 42C with that active cooling system in the aggressive mode.

    Well this might be a good place if s24 or s24+ is worth buying (the exynos version), in hot and humid climate like the country I live in, because I have heard about it's over heating and I don't feel pretty safe carrying a mini oven in my pocket. Like comparing it's performance and heat compared to the S24Ultra or even previous S23 line up

    So informative, learned a lot. I have a three questions.
    1) Is overclocking really possible in mobile phones?
    2) My exynos 1280 really heats up the front camera area of the screen when I try to play a graphical game like BGMI/CODM, how does your statement of Lower chips not heating uphold to this?
    3) What about device heat up during charging?

    • @NasiLemakTech
      @NasiLemakTech  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Oh I like structured questions
      1. Yes, but rooted devices only. Phones are very locked down by default.
      2. Exynos 1280 is considered mid-to-high range and again, not all low-end/mid-range chips have performance that is low enough that it doesn't thermal throttle.
      3. I completely missed out on that. Yes, that affects performance as well. It's practically the reverse effects of battery bypass.

    In the topic of the HTC one M8 being a solid block of aluminum, why are phones not built like this anymore, I get the part where all manufacturers use NFC and wireless charging coils now days but is it not cost effective to do something like the first Google pixel where they had a small glass piece at the top but the device was aluminum all around?
    Exelent video! and sorry for the wall of text 😅

      Excellent question - it's sort of creating a Faraday's cage - in this case, a Faraday's barrier???
      I'm not familiar with Google Pixel since it's not available in my country. I think they're not doing that is mostly due to cost and manufacturing complications.

    Qualcomm already has upscaling and frame generation but nobody's using it yet, and on the apple side only a handful of games are using their upscaling tech. Games like wuthering waves with fsr seem to only use it for anti-aliasing, sort of like 'dlaa', though i might be wrong

    Spent bit of money to get a decent cooler, piva bl7, my s23 ultra never throttle in genshin now, it's always 30-35c even in Fontaine water region, fps wise I don't notice that much of a difference but battery life wise it last longer
    Update: Fontaine underwater makes it reach 38c , same with dense jungle area in summer
    It never gets close to 45c like it used to when I first started playing without any cooler.

    After watching many ways to cool a device, i think i finally found two ways,
    1st finding a mini table fan with high rpm, because i have cool climate so the mini fan pushes cool air faster
    2nd is Phone Cooler, but with little addition from our side, Currently the cooler only cools center area and waits for heat to travel to the center, what im gonna do is find a 0.3~0.5mm Cooper plate and cut it in the shape of the phone, so instead the cooler waiting for heat, the cooling travels to heating area, i assume.
    And obviously tweaking graphics and limiting fps to 40~55fps
    But my unluck, i have bad Internet 😤

    One thing you skipped is the display.
    It's not that big of a deal in android phones because most have atleast some form of cooling but iphones are the worst when it comes to throttling the display. Dropping the brightness should help with thermal management but how much do you think affects the power management and throttling?

    • @NasiLemakTech
      @NasiLemakTech  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I am aware of this but I personally use my phone at ~80 nits most of the time, so I didn't experience anything related to brightness level changes due to thermal throttling.
      Worth exploring in the future though

    • @NasiLemakTech

    The temperature you're showing in your videos is always battery temperature. Most Li-ion batteries have an upper temperature limit of 50°C, above which the service life is drastically reduced.

    • @NasiLemakTech

      Nope. That's the IHS of the chip's temperature. Battery temperature is different.

    • @zockerbude2585
      @zockerbude2585 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@NasiLemakTech You can see the actual SoC temperature with DevCheck if your phone is rooted or you got a snapdragon device. Usually the SoC temperature from powerful chipsets like Snapdragon 8 series is between 80-90°C when playing demanding games like Genshin. Give DevCheck a shot if you like. I use it to monitor CPU & GPU temperature on a rooted S21 Ultra with Exynos

    • @ashar8192
      @ashar8192 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@NasiLemakTech the one from GPUWatch is the battery temperature though. This video was great, but you confused the SoC temperature of the Rog Phone with the battery temperature and compared it to the battery temperature of the S24U. Very common mistake and many apps don't even report the right SoC temperature, they just use an estimate. The SoC temperature is unimportant anyway, as silicon is fine up to 90°C and as it is not in direct contact with the phones body anyway
      The battery temperature, from what I am aware of, is correctly reported on any Android device and that is the temperature that is much more likely to be similar to the surface temperature of the phones body. So the one everyone should focus on when trying to assess thermal limits, throttling, whatever
