    I see firmware as an intermediary device which helps merge the hardware and software. Similar to drivers, but a bit more on the hardware side than the software.
    Therefore, I'm starting a petition to rename "drivers" to "limpware", so that we can have hard > firm > limp > soft!

    As being an employee of HP, i can confirm to you that the method of updating only when an issue arises is not a good method. Some updates are pushed to prevent issues from happening that would in the end require an system board replacement, such as Intel ME firmware. Not to mention it does provide security improvments and bug fixes that may have caused issues you didnt know you were having. Ideally for best performance and stability its recommended to keep all of your drivers, firmware, bios and chipset up to date. Linus is right though there is a risk of doing a bios update, but the chance of something happening is very slim as long as you know what you are doing.

    Hey I recently saw a benchmark of 2x8 GB ram vs 4x4 GB ram and the 4x4 had a performance increase of between 10-30%, which is actually ridiculous, could you please do a video going more in depth with this topic? thankyou!

    Stop with the clickbait titles. Put Firmware in the title. I thought this video would be about electricity or something - the title is very vague

    So how a chip structure work like a gyroscope or sensor or any kind of smol rectangle chip on the motherboards?

  • @privatefactory1173
    @privatefactory1173 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Firmware is a set of instructions or a program that runs microcontroler(s) in your electronic devices driving it's principal functions and usually stored in eeprom memory chip. Without this code\firmware your device is literary a brick. "Conventional software" is also a program but sits on a higher abstraction level that allows us to control the device. The best analogy would be, think of the firmware as an autonomic\parasympathetic nervous system in human body, that controls basic functions like intestine peristalsis, heart beat rate and etc.

    I've been working on this pc tower for over a year and one other. Just to realise this morning aching from work, and worn down from constant yt guides and os jimmying that the "operator" in the 1st matrix film was in fact a program. Like as in compared to an os being "but a simple program" and the fact that I got d in the bios tonight lmao. And yes Linustechtips is morpheus aperantly. Lolol. Good day gentle sirs and legitimate ladies of wee hour goblin activities. Lolol. Idk about you but this is most awesome to me.
