STILL with the original clutch when i sold that had no problems and only needed adjusted around 100,000 miles (mechanic said the clutch had at least 40,00 miles still on it). Main problems i had over and above wear and tear (brake pads & discs, suspension bushes, exhaust at 70,000 moles) was an ignition coil gave up, a window mechanism failed, a few minor electrical problems but by far the worst was rust. In Scotland our climate is temperate and it rains a lot, 3rd highest mean rainfall in the world so the sills had to be welded. @@johnbunyan5834 So bad for so long now. I remember test driving a new Beretta in the fall of '90. I didn't like it right off, but the wife might have wanted it, so I gave it a chance. For a small car, it was big and heavy with little power. Good ride though. On the test drive I tried to roll the passenger window down, and it made a weird noise. It rolled back up outside of the car, sticking out like a wing. The salesman is like I hope that won't turn you against the car. Heh. Bought a new '91 Ford Escort which was a joint venture with Mazda at the time (you can't tell the interior of a '91 323 apart from an Escort.) Great video - as we expect from Scotty. The Honda wheels may fit but those rims probably have the 56.1 Honda hub diameter and the Mazda has a 54mm hub. The bolts take the strain of road shocks if that's the case , instead of the hub. It can also mean the wheels can be slightly out of balance.

Hey Scotty- I bought a '99 Civic EX/2D/5sp. a couple of months ago; it came w/ TOYOTA wheels. But I found a deal on Craigslist, buying a tire/wheel combo that was BMW. for $250. Tons of rubber, and no curb rash. Then I just replaced the center hub, and now I'm running 15" OEM "Hondas" on BMW wheelsets, on a Civic. ps: LOVE your channel, and I have learned much.
I got a 2001 BRG miata not long ago with 51k miles on it right now. Only car I've owned that makes me happy to wake up for work in the morning because I get to drive with little traffic and nice cold air for it to suck up on the way to work. :) great car
We bought a one owner Mazda Miata for one of our daughters as her first car. It was a manual shift, and she loved it. But, eventually, it had a couple dents from learning to drive, and needed a new convertible top so she sold it. It was a very fun little car to drive.
At first glance thought it was a S 2000. Tennessee is a great state, was stationed at Ft. Campbell for 18 months. Nashville one weekend, Kentucky Lake the next. Good times.
The valve tapping, to clean them up, just before doing an oil change, put about 3 ounces of fresh transmission fluid and drive it around for about 5 minutes, then change the oil. It will come out as a sludge tar oil, those lifters will be purring. Can work on them with my eyes closed, do change that timing belt, tensioner and water pump, by its condition it probably needs it. At 127K plus miles, it is running on expired time.
From Smoky Mountains, these comments are hilarious. Obviously nobody from Tenn. Donuts in your front yard everyday, talking to yourself waving your arms around, most of my neighbors do. WELCOME HOME SCOTTY.
I got a 1999 Miata with 54k miles and I absolutely love it. Had to change the fluids on it and the alternator belt but other then that trouble free driving
Make sure you clean out the drain tubes for the convertible top. Also remove the two bolts at the bottom of the front fender and clear out the debris by pulling the fender outward. These are to two main reason for older Miata rust..
YES!! Scotty works *inside a fancy garage* like a proper mechanic!! Well done, sir! Cheers from the aviation side of mechanics! And congradulations on the new house and new car! My friend just got a '92 miata standard! Sounds smoother than this one at 150k miles!

Holy sh!t Scotty's got my car! Got a 98 NB in green with 105k on the clock. Still sweet as a nut and can blow away hot hatches in the twisty roads. Such a cheap to run / easy to fix / fun to drive car
Scotty you're right about the Miata, I've been running on for 4 years. It is cheap, easy to work on and reliable. I've had it undersealed here in the UK, as rust is its is biggest problem in the wet weather. Parts are easy to get and reasonably priced. If your viewers want a fun car I can recommend it, and it is almost as much fun as my Norton motorcycle 😂
You'd be surprised what you can get in a Junk Yard - shows picture of a Chevrolet dealer . :). We don't have Chevrolets in the UK so I will assume that was a joke. I remember seeing '57 Chevrolets when I was a kid, and liking them.

Scotty’s new neighbors: “who is that doing donuts in the hood?!”
Someone say donuts? ...Homer Jay Simpson in da hood. 🤣😋
Just takin her out for a test drive ;-D
HHahaha
Scotty's comment at 6:37 is awesome! Nothing wrong with honesty!
love your videos scotty! you look super happy in Tennessee, i hope you like the chance of scenery! take care buddy
HE INDEED LOOKS VERY HAPPY HE WAS CHEESING THROUGH THE WHOLE VIDEO 😄 🤣
I got a 2001 BRG miata not long ago with 51k miles on it right now. Only car I've owned that makes me happy to wake up for work in the morning because I get to drive with little traffic and nice cold air for it to suck up on the way to work. :) great car
Also since Mazda is starting to manufacture parts for these older miatas, there's no reason not to do it
We bought a one owner Mazda Miata for one of our daughters as her first car. It was a manual shift, and she loved it. But, eventually, it had a couple dents from learning to drive, and needed a new convertible top so she sold it. It was a very fun little car to drive.
Stan - Hey Edna !
Edna - What ?
Stan - The new neighbor is the one on youtube, you know ? " Rev-up your engines ! "
Edna - Dear Lord !
Scotty is 100% right, the MX5/Miata is such great cheap fun
At first glance thought it was a S 2000. Tennessee is a great state, was stationed at Ft. Campbell for 18 months. Nashville one weekend, Kentucky Lake the next. Good times.
I’m digging that garage floor Scotty
I like the Honda rims too.😀
The valve tapping, to clean them up, just before doing an oil change, put about 3 ounces of fresh transmission fluid and drive it around for about 5 minutes, then change the oil. It will come out as a sludge tar oil, those lifters will be purring.
Can work on them with my eyes closed, do change that timing belt, tensioner and water pump, by its condition it probably needs it. At 127K plus miles, it is running on expired time.
Welcome to Tennessee. I live in the foothills of the Smoky mountains.
From Smoky Mountains, these comments are hilarious. Obviously nobody from Tenn. Donuts in your front yard everyday, talking to yourself waving your arms around, most of my neighbors do. WELCOME HOME SCOTTY.
Real glad you are still on the Internet . . .
Your garage is so nice. Glad your settled in!
The Miata is definitely a great 2 seater ragtop. Thanks for sharing this scrapyard example with a clean engine and sturdy frame.
I predict Scotty will be speaking with a southern Tennessee accent in 6 months. Rev ya'll engines!
There isn't an accent here
@@abraamsamor7418 You mean, "Aint No Accent Down Here, Y'all!!! Yeeeee Haaaaah!!!
@@abraamsamor7418 New Jersians we dont have any accent.
I got a 1999 Miata with 54k miles and I absolutely love it. Had to change the fluids on it and the alternator belt but other then that trouble free driving
Scotty make a intro in Tennessee.
No. Keep the original for nostalgia 👍
Scotty! At 7:00 you said "it's not a racecar". But the Miata is actually the #1 most raced car in the WORLD! Love those things to death.
He's happy as a duck making new videos again! 👍
Make sure you clean out the drain tubes for the convertible top. Also remove the two bolts at the bottom of the front fender and clear out the debris by pulling the fender outward. These are to two main reason for older Miata rust..
The honda rims on it are killing me 😂
scrub the H logo off, no problem
YES!!
Scotty works *inside a fancy garage* like a proper mechanic!!
Well done, sir!
Cheers from the aviation side of mechanics!
And congradulations on the new house and new car!
My friend just got a '92 miata standard!
Sounds smoother than this one at 150k miles!
"Ahhh the circle of Life" 😄
Hey Scotty ..... glad to see you made the move safely and are "right back in the saddle again". Hope all is well and we look forward to many more entertaining years full of good advice.
Pretty soon the neighbors will be saying “theres a mechanic hollering at his camera”
Scotty, gotta agree with you full heartedly on the Miata especially this year for 1,100 bucks. I dig that you're a straight shooter
I swear, when scotty gets old, he is going to be that one old man doing donuts in a sports car 😂
pretty sure he’s already old
pretty sure he is already
Scotty's not old!
@@Tsch6373 he’s ancient
He's immortal.
Good to see you up and running in Tennessee Scotty.
Honda wheels on a Mazda, well I had a Celica once that had some very decent looking wheels from a Volvo - honest !!
Welcome to Tennessee . I live in west tn. hope you like it here.
One wheel is missing a lug nut...I'm surprised Scotty didn't pick that up
Holy sh!t Scotty's got my car! Got a 98 NB in green with 105k on the clock. Still sweet as a nut and can blow away hot hatches in the twisty roads. Such a cheap to run / easy to fix / fun to drive car
The neighbors are going to have a fun time watching Scotty do his videos
Scott do you say find a mechanic like you there is no other mechanic like you you’re the man
Maybe you'll bump into Uncle Tony's garage crew. He's in tennessee too.
from what Scotty said before, they are in the same area.
@@BrewBlaster I hope they compete!!
@@beniamino939 Theoretically, they already do.
57 chevy bel air is my dream car. And I'm not much of a chevy person..I like the classics though
I appreciate how much fun he's having in this video.
Lug nut missing on the 4th wheel made me wince, esp on one with a total of 4 lugs.
Me too
Yeah it should be replaced but it'll be right
One of my favorite things about Scotty's videos is that, whenever he mentions a junkyard, the picture in the corner is a Chevrolet dealer!!
