How To PAUSE & RECORD Live TV

  • Hi, this video shows you how to record and pause live television. You can use a USB Flash Drive or a external hard drive (HDD). A really cheap option is to recycle an old laptop hard drive and buy a HDD caddy for £3. You can pause Live TV, Rewind and Record Live TV and also do series recording via your EPG (Electronic Programme guide). Alot of televisions have this feature and I think it is very useful.
    Many thanks Vince

    The reason the hard drive is a different size is it is likely that there is a hidden partition on the drive, likely for restoration of Windows. If you use disk management software or Linux you should be able to fully flatten it and format fully.
    If USBs are not reporting correct size again maybe hidden partitions or if new, possibly not a genuine stick.

    I am watching Freesat on an LG smart tv. I have pause & play button on my remote but it only seems to work on live TV that's streamed via programmes like BBC iPlayer or ITV Hub. When I try to use on Freesat Live it says I need to connect USB storage. I am unsure that buying a USB stick will work. I have also seen a record facility on the TV but do not recall when or where. Would appreciate your advice please. Tricia

    Many thanks for this clear and helpful video. I have a recent 65" LG TV with two USB ports and I have tried a brand new 128gb USB stick in both (used the TV to format it) but when I try to pause there is the message that "this storage device cannot be used for live playback. Select a different device". I tried a different stick and the same problem persists. What could I be doing wrong?

    You can use the timeshift function without a record button or at least on Freesat you can if not other services, i have a Samsung tv with a Samsung remote without a record button. I put a usb flash drive into the usb camera socket on the back of the tv purely because it was spare, then i got the option to select all content or videos and such, i pressed all content then it said No stored files found because it was an empty usb i then pressed the source button on the remote to go back to the tv channels, then i pressed the pause button on the remote and it said Not Available.
    So thinkng about the format possibility i went into the tv guide, selected a program in the future about half an hour, it gave me the schedule recording option which i pressed and the format options came up so i pressed that. When the usb had finished formatting i got a report of The recording and Timeshift functions are now available. So i went back to the live tv and pressed the pause button and it paused the live tv with rewind, fast forward and the stop button which returns the picture to actual time. Ok i realise this video is nearly four years old and you've probably sussed the info i just gave out by now but it's an active video so i hope it helps someone.

    Hi mate, I'd be interested to know which sort of TV service you use, and what sort of stuff you tend to watch? I've networked all my house project with CAT6 and it's nearly time to decide on what to go for.
    I've always grown up with SKY, especially for the football, but I refuse to pay the prices anymore. Was looking into either NOWTV or AppleTV, any thoughts?
    Cheers.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I get Virginmedia TV as part of the package but I rarely use it.
      I haven't tried Apple TV but I definitely wouldn't go for Now TV. I have had it on 2 occasions, once for a year when it 1st came out and then recently for a few months when I got it free with my phone contract. Now TV isn't compatible with a lot of equipment and once you have it for a few months and caught up with the movies then you tend to not watch it much and I think it is expensive for what you get. I haven't tried out the sports or entertainment on it so that may suit you better.
      Personally I like Netflix on the top package with the ultra HD as it is compatible with everything I have tried and also normal HD Freeview. If you were organised and planned the week ahead on a TV guide you can record a lot of good stuff on Freeview to then watch back at a later stage and it doesn't cost anything. I also tend to watch more and more TH-cam videos.
      Cheers.

    Just for future reference, GigaBits and GigaBytes are two different things. When talking about storage mediums you'd use Gigabytes, Megabytes, Kilobytes.
    Bits are used when talking about data transfer from the internet and locally over a network. A Gigabit is actually vastly different in size to a Gigabyte.
    Great video though :)

      Thanks Danny, I always get them mixed up!!!!!!!!! So the hard drives I used are 80GBps and 120GBps (capital B) which is Gigabytes and my Internet speed with Virginmedia is 70Mbps (small p Not Capital P) so it is Megabits. I need to retain this information but it just seems to constantly vanish from my memory :-)

    • @DannysGalaxyTab
      @DannysGalaxyTab 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Almost right Vince. When talking about hard drives or any sort of storage, even RAM its GB as in 500GB (500 Gigabytes) or 1TB (One Terabyte). Just remove the ps from the end.
      You're right on the internet side though for most cases.
      When the internet's concerned:
      Mbps means megabits per second. Mb is used for download and upload speed.
      MBps stands for megabytes per second. MB is used for file size.
      It is easy to mix them up, and I apologise if I come across as a bit of a stickler pointing this out.

    The other 30GB on your hdd is probably a hidden partition used for system recovery due to it being originally used in a laptop. To get the full 80GB download the minitool partition free wizard tool. Before loading it connect ur hdd to computer, and then once loaded ull see the drive with 1 partition being 50GB and the other 30GB. Delete both partitions and then create one new one and ull now have the full 80GB back to use as ur pvr drive.

    Not with the Sony 950G you can't. It WILL NOT record OTA live broadcast TV to an external USB-HDD. According to Sony,, that feature is "not supported". Unfortunately, I had already bought the damned thing before finding that out. Other Sony Bravia Android TV's WILL so record, and NO REVIEW I saw pre-purchase mentioned the lack of that capability.
