Details of the USB would be helpful. I’ve bought 3 and in each case the TV thinks the space is a fraction of what is actually on the usb. What exactly works?
It is important to know that with Samsung you can only play stuff back on that actual TV that recorded it. So if, for example, your kid is going to be on a TV show and you think recording it means you will have it for ever, you will only have it while you hang onto that TV and won't be able to share it.
Have you tried recording TV screens by your ubs recording function, not TV programs. I've heard some say that this tv only records programs over-the-air. So scrren capture is different from TV programs recording. Do you mind telling me? Thank you.

Just try avermedia 130 ez recorder you can record in HD but it has HDCP 1.4 (Avermedia Don’t need PC or lap to record) or just try oxlaw HDMI capture card but you must need lap or PC to capture use obs etc…

Just been out and bought a Sandisk usb 3 (having watched this video) to use on my Samsung tv to do this - the tv picked up the usb and formatted the drive through the tv no problem, however I am only able to access 'existing videos' through the tv menu from the usb (as I can see the usb folder within recorded tv opition) - I 'do have' the record button but when pressed I just get a notification saying 'not available'? Any ideas or have a come to the end of the road and just now have a spare usb stick? - SINCE - Established it will record but 'only' from the standard aerial tv channels and 'not' from a selected hdmi source selected device ie iptv from mag box/ firestick etc.

I did not the tv could do this. All this time. My remote control does not have an actual record button though. It also says recording is not in the U.S. or Canada.
You are the first person I've heard mention timeshift. So do all the other samsung tvs have the feature to pause rewind and resume? I'm wondering if I now want a smart tv. I don't like not being able to pause my shows. But it seems that smart tvs are all that's being sold now. How can you know if the TV has the timeshift? Before you buy.
@@susan4981 Hi susan. The way i was told to find out whether a TV has timeshift (Pause/FF/RW etc) is to check on the romote control. If the remote has a red record button it should have timeshift. However, i am not 100% sure that is accurate but it does make sense. Sorry i can't be more sure 🙂

The one marked HDD, is for an external hard drive, as these require more power than other devices. Generally speaking, USB sticks, use a low amount of power, so either port should be fine. If not, just experiment.
I can record ok but I can’t find a delete button anywhere, I’m using the standard remote which doesn’t have a record button, there’s play, Fast forward and reverse etc on screen and on the remote but no delete.

I have a 6 series samsung tv but it has no record button and the other one don't give me that option. It does recognize the usb stick though. Idk what's the deal. The tv is 2018 too.
Actually, in the US, you will need to change the region code (which I don't how to do) or flash the firmware to something else (which I don't know how to do.) The record capability is there but disabled in the US (according to the Samsung manual.)

Even though smart TV's have an operating system, like computers, there do not seem to be "smart-TV" hackers, like there are phone and tablet hackers, who would figure out how to flash your TV to do everything it is capable of. TV's are probably "locked down" to prevent it. (If flashing were easy to figure out, they would soon get viruses, like computers, since they connect to the Internet.) Changing the region code should be possible, because you actually do this, maybe without realizing it, in the initial setup of your TV. That simultaneously sets the TV standards to where you are, and since TV standards are different in different areas, the TV would be unlikely to work as a TV, without a lucky coincidence . I think Samsung probably disabled recording because the strict US "digital rights" laws would have made them pay high fees.
@@kennethflorek8532 I found out that Smart TVs have a hidden menu. There are different codes for different years. My Sony Smart-Ass 2013 works with this code. You need to enter them in the order I show, fairly quickly. Fair warning, you really need to learn ahead of time what you should look for, and don't change anything without writing down exactly what you did, so you can undo it. Press... Mute, 182, Power Button There are a number of videos here on UT showing different codes if this one doesn't work for you. I went in, but really didn't know what I was looking for to change the Region. I think we are in Region 2 being NTSC.

I am from the UK so what I needed to do was when the television was switched off I pressed the buttons and the following sequence: Info, menu, mute and power. After a few seconds the menus came up and there were various options but again you need to be very careful and not modify anything unless you know what you are looking for. Anyway I found the extended PVR function and clicked on that which activated the recording feature for me.

Yeah, that's an annoying problem. Don't understand why television companies would encrypt recordings, unless of course, they're being paid by the TV companies to do so.

I've been recording live tv using my playstation 3 since 2007 and I still do. Lol. Playstation was so a head of its time. The tv shows I record using my play tv kit can be transferred to a pen drive or external hard drive and stored on my computer when I want to free up space.
