- The first video in this series on my favourite bands is on Nevermore; The dark and philosophical Progressive Metal titans from Seattle. I do not own the music, I am using it only for educational and entertainment purposes as always. Like, comment, subscribe, and stay metal.

Ayyy thanks for the shoutout my man. Nevermore is so good. Not sure why I never recognized the Candlemass influence to their sound, but now that you have mentioned it, I totally hear it. They combine so many different genres and influenced so many bands that came after them. Their influence on the Djent movement is very very understated. Dead Heart in Dead World is one of my favourite albums of all time. Looking forward to the next video on this topic 🤘
I just wanna say Nevermore is one of the most underrated metal bands to exist. I know Jeff Loomis gets a lot of respect in the guitar community but it still doesn't feel like they had the impact they deserved.

Hell yeah Nevermore. My dad introduced me to the band, mostly to brag he went to elementary school with the drummer Van but still pretty cool. Shame about Warrel's passing.
When I heard Nevermore's song "What Tomorrow Knows" I instantly added it to the music collection. And every time it came up it would be one of those songs you had to stop everything and listen to. Eventually I started hoping they had more like it, so would listen to albums at a time trying to find something. But I never did find anything that hooked me the same. I just couldn't get into anything else they had. I don't have an explanation either. Just one song fits perfectly, and everything else around it, in my mind, doesn't come close.

Nevermore is one of the most respectable careers with several MASTERPIECES in their catalogue. I’d say “Politics of Ecstasy” is among them, right next to Dead Heart & Godless Endeavour. I’d also say another descriptor would be if a power metal band went super depressing. They’re definitely a difficult sell but it’s worth it in the end :)
See, this is one of the reasons, why, I don't get why Progressive Doom Metal still isn't a concrete movement that everyone can vouch for its legitimacy (sure ,any band can have both Prog and Doom elements in their music, but as a movement?). Sure, I can see, not everyone can get into the bandwagon,that is, the more bluesy side of Doom, like Trad, Stoner and Psychedelic Doom. But I can definitely imagine Epic Doom being the gel that enables the combination between the more melodic,shreddy and operatic side of Doom (that's influenced by NWOBHM and Power Metal), with Prog which is already inclusive of those things.
Confessor, Celtic Frost and Triptykon, While Heaven Wept, Umbra Nihil, Sacrosanct (well, a bit), Lesbian, Flesh Of The Stars, Avec Tristesse, Kauan, Dvne; aren't even near enough for us to call it a movement. And then there's the Death-Doom bands that dabbles with Prog, ya know, those who haven't abandoned that genre wholesale yet like Green Carnation, November's Doom, Novembre. the Old Dead Tree, Hanging Garden, Ahab, but that's just dabbling. Thank heavens Oceans Of Slumber and Barren Earth exist, but that's just 2 new bands. Okay, I know about the more mainstream Sludgy and Post-Metal-ey side of Proggy Doom; Mastodon, Cult of Luna, Baroness, Intronaut, The Ocean, Russian Circles, Pelican, The Moth Gatherer, Koloid,etc. but even THAT movement is kinda old (and in danger of loosing steam).
What is Groove, if not a revisit to Sabbath, but not committing to the occult/sludgy side of it? And Npt pnly Nevermore already groovy, melodic and proggy, even their discography oozed sadness and despair, and that makes them, one of the gateway into writing/making Prog/Doom music, even when they were not exactly that.

I have only in very small doses checked out nevermore but my gut feeling tells me it is one of the most important bands I will be listening to eventually.
So far the song about his ex-wife being indoctrinated to religion was the first song I heard from them long ago.
Easily one of the best bands ever, easily.
