When I realized that the slower I play, the better I sound I was asked, “Can you DOOM?” A light bulb (or a nuclear flash) went off…! I was trying to learn how to shred, Van Halen style, and frankly it wasn’t happening.
My North Carolina High School sludge band "Deadweight" opened for Buzzoven and EYEHATEGOD in the early 90's. I also used to regularly drink and smoke with Peppers from COC. I later went back to my punk roots, but now am on a mission to mix the two into something similar to QOTSA Rated R and SFTD.
I play some Doom Metal and Stoner Metal on my 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II RB650 bass but I'm planning on getting a Dean metalman ML or Epiphone Thunderbird E1.
I’d also say for the early proto sound bands like Leaf Hound- growers of mushrooms. That’s a great album. TASTE- Rory Gallagher’s grooves are so heavy and they were a power trio ya boot. Obviously Cream-dizraeli gears. The Flower Traveling Band. Hawkwind. Even the Groundhogs have some awesome influential stuff! I haven’t finished the video yet so with my dumb luck you’ll probably end up listing some of those! LOL. Although I have to say yet another great video man! Glad I stumbled upon it!
Aesthetic is definitely a part of the culture around a genre, but to be fair most of dooms aesthetic seems to be 70s psychedelic rock - but painted black (or at least dark purple). Or are you referring to lyrical themes/vibe? Because that could reasonably be it's own video...
u forget to mention MONOLORD & the incredible B O R I S for instance😁! btw `stoner` isn`t doom to me. it`s just a kind of blues. a heavy kind - but just trivial blues. cheeerz, mate!
Learn the blues scale, downtune your guitar, buy or build a fuzz pedal (preferably a RAT or a Muff). Dress a bit goth or wear a black wife beater and jeans, but no trainers, always shoes or boots, they must be black or brown, no red or white boots, you mite get away with purple or blue, the footwear etiquette is very important, if your turn up in pink sketchers - your not Doom.
Drop tuning and pick one of the following scales - minor, phrygian, phrygian dominant, harmonic minor and play super slow.

Those roadstars are nice. Ibanez has a budget bass that reminds me of the old Aria Pros your profile pic counterpart used to rock.
@@EasyHeat yeah Cliff was the master of his craft.
The wizard..In Black. Thanks for showing people the way.
Thanks. Great series. Cheers from Mainz.
Thanks mate!
When i think of Doom. I think of Cathedral. One reason i do is there debut album is one of the greatest debut albums of all time ever.
I love their debut album it’s a damn masterpiece I also love their sophomore album Forest of the Equilibrium that album is heavy as balls…..

North Carolina contribution goes without saying, and Somewhere Else Tavern in Greensboro was an early MECCA for sludge, doom, and HC.
Good job!
Doom on!!!
Thanks mate!
what is written on the flag to the left in the background? thx
It translates to "an injury to one is an injury to all". It's a IWW flag.
@@NicolasPerrault thank you very much, Nicolas, appreciate your feedback and all the effort you put into this marvellous channel ❤

Don't forget aesthetic too. Aesthetic make doom as well.

Geil! Mehr davon!
Vielen Dank! Mehr gibt's auf jeden Fall!
Why does the description of "Doom" sound so much better in German?!
Idk, but I bet there's a German word for it
He said he think of Led Zeppelin when he thinks of Doom. When i think of Led zeppelin. I think of blaming the for the genre called Hair Guitar.

Ah, but I wear pink shoes all the time... maybe that's why I mostly play Death Metal these days 🤔 😅
You said A hole
That's entirely possible
