Crete: Experiential Ancient Greek Music Lab - Elissos Travelling Philosophy

✎ The music of #Ancient #Greece was almost universally present in ancient Greek society, from #marriages, #funerals, and #religious ceremonies to #theatre, folk music, and the ballad-like reciting of epic #poetry. It thus played an integral role in the lives of ancient Greeks. Although the ancient Greeks were familiar with many kinds of instruments, three were favored for composition and performance: the #kithara, a plucked string instrument; the #lyre, also a string instrument; and the #aulos, a double-reed instrument.
In a private studio, you will enjoy an hour and a half #workshop on the ancient Greek Music, in #theory and #practice. Theory is focusing on the presentation of the ancient Greek #music #instruments, #musical forms, ancient Greek #modes and #moods, the #harmony of the spheres and ancient Greek musical notation. During the experiential part of the #workshop, you are becoming the musicians! We welcome you to attempt to play simple ancient music #rhythms using accurate copies of ancient Greek musical instruments, with the help of your #instructor.
