    Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Middle-Earth - Lord of the Rings continues with the second video on the First Age. Previously we discussed the creation of the world of Tolkien, its powers and races and we see how and why the Elves became the enemies of the Dark Lord Melkor, who they called Morgoth, after their leader Fëanor cursed him for killing his father Finwë and stealing his prized possession - Silmarils. In this episode we see how the evil first rose in the world of Arda and will talk about Ungoliant and other evils, about the Valar and Maiar, about the Elves and their sub-groups - Vanyar, Ñoldor, Teleri, and Avari ( • Beginning of the Age -... ), while this video will show the continuation of the events. In Middle-Earth, Morgoth attacks the Teleri Elves in Doriath under Thingol and his allies Cirdan and Denethor starting the War of the Jewels with the First Battle of the Beleriand. Meanwhile, in the Valinor, the Noldor Elves of Feanor attack their Teleri relatives in the First Kinslaying in order to take their ships. Afterwards, Feanor and his sons travel to the Middle-Earth in order to fight Morgoth and take the Silmarils, leading to the battles of Dagor-nuin-Giliath and Lammoth and the death of Feanor ( • Feanor Strikes Back - ... ). The third episode episode showed the aftermath of the death of Feanor, as the Noldor kingdoms rise in the Middle-Earth taking on Morgoth once again, this time at the battle of Dagor Aglareb, where Feanor's sons Fingolfin and Maedhros, and others fought against the Dark Lord and we also talked about the rise of the humans - the House of Edain ( • Dagor Aglareb - Noldor... ). The fourth episode will describe the battle of Dagor Bragollach and the rise of the father of Dragons Glaurung ( • Dagor Bragollach - Ris... ). In the aftermath of the defeat at the hands of Morgoth, the Elves and Men were on the back foot and the evil spread in the Middle-Earth, but from those dark days, an unlikely pair rose to challenge the darkness - Beren and Lúthien.

    Hey guys Frank Ó'hÁinle the scriptwriter here again. I just wanted to thank you all for your continued support of our retelling of the events of the first age of Tolkien's work, the response has been fantastic so far.
    Above all else though I really hope you enjoy this two part series on Beren and Luthien. It is my joint favorite tale (alongside the children of Hurin of course) in all of Tolkien's work and I sincerely hope you enjoy watching these videos, as much as I have enjoyed working as part of the team to put them together for you all.

    Here is a letter that J.R.R Tolkien wrote to his son Christopher shortly after the death of his wife Edith:
    I never called Edith Lúthien - but she was the source of the story that in time became the chief pan of the Silmarillion. It was first conceived in a small woodland glade filled with hemlocks at Roos in Yorkshire (where I was for a brief time in command of an outpost of the Humber Garrison in 1917, and she was able to live with me for a while).
    In those days her hair was raven, her skin clear, her eyes brighter than you have seen them, and she could sing - and dance. But the story has gone crooked, & I am left, and I cannot plead before the inexorable Mandos.
    I will say no more now. But I should like ere long to have a long talk with you. For if as seems probable I shall never write any ordered biography - it is against my nature, which expresses itself about things deepest felt in tales and myths - someone close in heart to me should know something about things that records do not record:
    the dreadful sufferings of our childhoods, from which we rescued one another, but could not wholly heal the wounds that later often proved disabling; the sufferings that we endured after our love began - all of which (over and above our personal weaknesses) might help to make pardonable, or understandable, the lapses and darknesses which at times marred our lives - and to explain how these never touched our depths nor dimmed our memories of our youthful love.
    For ever (especially when alone) we still met in the woodland glade, and went hand in hand many times to escape the shadow of imminent death before our last parting.

    What I like on Sauron was not only that he had a (cruel) sense of humor, but he was much less than Morgoth after destruction for destruction sake. He wanted to forge the world, not just destroy out of anger that something was denied to him. I think that is a much better motivation for a dark lord.
    If I remember right than in The Two Towers it is speculated that Beren met on his escape towards Doriath Shelob (and I guess that was a unpleasent surprise for him). So the spider was among the few beings at the end of the Third Age who still remembered the events in the story of Beren and Luthien in person.

      @@Xevos701 No, nowhere in the book it is mentioned that he "hid" from Morgoth or something like that. In Tolkien's the Lay of Leithian book, we have been told that Sauron went to Taur-na-Fuin *to establish a new throne and a darker stronghold. And he used to send messengers from his mansions in Taur-na-Fuin to Angband/Morgoth very oftenly.* Even Morgoth himself approved that when Luthien introduced herself as 'Thuringwethil' to Morgoth. Later, Morgoth catched her lie and told he(Sauron) had already send messengers and tidings recently.

    • @_semih_
      @_semih_ ปีที่แล้ว

      Morgoth probably didn't even punished Sauron for this because when disguised Luthien told Melkor that she brought new tidings from Sauron's mansions in Taur-na-Fuin, Morgoth said Sauron already sent tidings very recently and he suspected that Luthien was a spy. So as we see that there was no problem between Sauron and Morgoth after the events of Tol-Sirion. Also the Silmarillion says after the War of Wrath; *in him(Sauron), the bonds of Morgoth were very strong.*

Said Thingol, and looking back to Beren said: “What would you here, unhappy mortal, and for what cause have you left your own land to enter this, which is forbidden to such as you? Can you show reason why my power should not be laid on you in heavy punishment for your insolence and folly?" Then Beren looking up beheld the eyes of Luthien, and his glance went also to the face of Melian; and it seemed to him that words were put into his mouth. Fear left him, and the pride of the eldest house of Men returned to him; and he said: "My fate, O King, led me hither, through perils such as few even of the Elves would dare. And here I have found what I sought not indeed, but finding I would possess for ever. For it is above all gold and silver, and beyond all jewels. Neither rock, nor steel, nor the fires of Morgoth, nor all the powers of the Elf-kingdoms, shall keep from me the treasure that I desire. Sauron is Morgoth’s terror weapon here, he clearly prefers to capture, torture and kill his enemies after they’ve run out of uses for him. Kinda seeing a similarity to the Witch King of Angmar being Sauron’s chief commander and tool of destruction operating in Angmar and Minas Morgul while Sauron serving Morgoth has his own base of Tol-in-Gaurhoth and goes to his own ends to terrorize the enemies of Evil.

    A long and protracted duel through song? What were they doing, having a rap battle in Quenya?

    • @marcbartuschka6372
      @marcbartuschka6372 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sort of. Magic in Tolkiens world is often sung (as you could see in the Lord of The Rings with the song of the barrow wight). And here Finrod recalled songs of hope and light, of distraction and courage, but Sauron countered every of his words with melodies of dicoveredtruth, and of despair and destruction, and of course in the end he won and all their disguises were ripped of them and they were defenseless before his eyes... I think there is a poem in the Sil which recalls that.

    They were straights who yet again got the focus & attention, because they fulfilled some ridiculous idealisation of meta-physical purity & perfection... that got mapped out onto/into our physical realm/world. That's basically the main point of/for their creation in the end.
    They had some interesting aspects (everybody does), but would be nice to get outside of such very small boxes.

    Concerning Thingol as "one of the greatest kings" I am sceptical. I always saw him as rather arrogant (even for an elven king) and short-sighted in his isolationism. That he was eventually killed by the dwarves might have been tragic but in this he was not completely innocent I think...

      Well I think next one will be the rest of B+L's story. Then the Nirnaeth comes soon after that. Then the story of Turin, where things get REALLY dark...

    • @marcbartuschka6372
      @marcbartuschka6372 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@desmondd1984 I guess they will split that story in two parts too, since that guy was really into a lot of catastrophes. To be honest, the "person" I liked in that story the most had scales. The great wyrm had some cool scenes, although he spoke only a few times. But the scene in which Morgoth curses Hurin is also cool.

    This should've been the story for The Rings of Power. Except they probably would've screwed it up too and made Luthien another stereotypical girl-boss like Rey/Galadriel etc, and made Beren a Homer Simpson type bumbler.
    So, I guess I'm glad they didn't try to tell the story of Beren and Luthien
