Damn, I never thought I would get this nostalgic when watching someone open up my childhood. Granted, I only had one starter pack, not a full box, but that was my first MtG experience.
A trip down memory lane sigh just when you thought the knee and back pain were enough to remind you your getting old, Rudy
opens a box of a magic set that was not just 8.95 but also you remember getting on your bike at 13-14 to ride to the comic store to buy a Starter deck and that lasted you a month of playing at the kitchen table with your friends.
I remember opening two mirage boxes when I was a kid with my brother. Reason I was able to get back to magic was because I still had two LED and was shocked at the price so I sold them along with a moderately played Bazaar of Baghdad.

This is easily one of my favorite magic expansions ever. So many memories. The best commons are Ritual, Incinerate, Drain Life and Wall of Roots
So many mirage boxes in one room. It's like they all came back from a 20 year war and are telling tales of their fight against the floppy tacos.
Man this was awesome. We used to have a baseball card shop in the strip center in front of my neighborhood growing up. My friend and I would ride our bikes up there in 5th grade when we started playing to buy what little magic they had. Mirage was the set out when we started playing.
Such a pretty set. I loved it back then.
I am definitely going to collect it some day but I’ll probably have to buy every card anew because I don’t think I used sleeves back then, and I certainly wasn’t careful with all the commons.
Strange to see hype for this video. Back in the day Mirage was thought of as a pretty weak set. But apparently I'm sitting on a gold mine of land cards.

i remember, back in the day i was a 7 yo lil girl playing magic for the first time (my brother went with me and bought me one of those mirage starters) when i pulled a hammer of bogardan out everyone went nuts and i was like wtf... i have no idea what is happening haha :'D such good old times

I was worried the Lion's Eye Diamonds that I bought were fake because they didn't seem to have the right feel to them, but I compared them to a bunch of Mirage basic lands I had and Mirage cards have that strange grit feel, not so glossy, like you were pointing out at about the 5:30 mark. Such a great vid Rudy, thanks!

Ive known about the mirage lands for a long time now. I use them in pre-release and draft as my pre-sleeved lands. Love that old artwork on basic lands.

Ice-Age Starter box was my first taste of Magic the Gathering, bought the starter box, out of cariousity to see what was inside and read the rule book on how the game was played. I havent bought or played MTG since, until Mirage came out, I bought a starter box and from there and became a minor collector buying starter boxes and boosters from time to time, when other Series came out, for a couple of years and playing with high school friends. .... ahh, memories.
Hammer of Bogardan was used in like 2 or 3 of the top 8 decks of the Type II portion during the 97 worlds

Thanks Rudy, finally a video i can say i own all the cards. So satisfying i remember my 1st vooster box in early 1997. Cost 130$ canadian monopoly dollars. Enough to get tacos for the family for 1 entire meal.

I remember Mirage was released. I loved playing with the blue djinns.
I use to run griffin deck. I top 2 a big tourny with it in m/v/w block. Wildfire emmissary kicked my ass unfortunatly. Helm of awakening made em cheaper and they sac to counter or destroy red and black spells/creatures and they bring griffins back to your hand. With swords and disenchant it was unstoppable! I used that blessing card too. Saved me a few times
That land cycle, Flood Plain and Bad River etc, are the original Fetches, the downside being they come in tapped, which is why they arent more expensive. But they have been holding that little bit of value because of Commander players.

Some of my 1st purchases of magic cards in 99/2000 were tempest and legacy tourney packs. Last one I got was kamigawa I think? tourney packs w/2 boosters were used for the occasional sealed tournament at the lgs I used to go to, a lot more fun than getting wrecked by people playing fruity pebbles, red deck wins, and all sorts of other old ass staple archetypes.
I would have loved to open this back in 1996 I even owned the inquest you where using.
Mirage is the first set I started with. Who would have thought that the crap card Lion's Eye Diamond was going to be worth sooo much?
I vividly recall the Mirage cards had a very unique smell. Seriously. It almost smelled like crayons.

I loved those style starter decks. I always saved my money for those vs packs. My friends were oppisite and went for packs. WoTC should bring those back. Good way for them to make more $ off another product per set. Id buy them

Man that was... sort a crap shoot! I used to have most of those cards before my collection got stolen... I guess I must have bought a couple of those starters, because I don't remember cracking packs of mirage. I totally agree with you about how the texture of mirage is... they felt like grainy and matte.
