I opened one of those a couple years ago and pulled the Phyrexian Dreadnought. I got the deck for $25 from a yard sale it was mixed in with a bunch of singles and a Darksteel starter.
46 here dude. Played from 5th edition to the 2002 London Grand Prix. Called it a day after that. Been playing Arena since last year and now the pro level stuff has been brought back seriously toying with getting into paper magic again. Love your content. The old stuff sure does bring back those memories, trying to open play sets of Birds of Paradise, Scroll Racks and the like......happy days!!!
I just purchased the last card, Shallow Graves, to complete my Mirage set this afternoon and come home to see you opening this Mirage starter deck. What a weird coincidence. Thanks for sharing this classic deck and the nostalgia of the by gone days of playing with these early sets.
I remember this was the first set that got my brother and I into Magic, and one of those starter tournament decks was one of the first things he bought. I remember decks like that were $9.99 and kid me was like, that's so expensive! Oh sweet summer child...
I found two of these sealed with their original price tag still on mid 2008 in a small Kentucky town garage sale...asked what they wanted for them, the lady said "The price tag says $9.99 so how about $20 for both?"....pulled a Phyrexian Dreadnought and nothing else....but this was when Stifle Nought was a top tier"ish" deck in legacy so I sold it for a decent penny...still have all the basic lands from these though...I've used them at every prerelease from Shards of Alara to Neon Dynasty...who would have thought the basic lands would have provided the most value from two of these....
Mirage was one of the expansions my buddy and I opened when we started playing Magic. Being from South Africa and being an artist, it was refreshing to see a fantasy game product showcasing African themes and visuals, there is a rich visual territory there that has never been returned to. A real pity, but at the time I really appreciated the artwork of this set, which in my opinion was beyond the sets prior. Sadly, these starter boxes were often a swift trip to poundtown...
Dude, I definitely slap myself when I open anything over $400, like I would before a fight. A little wake-me-up, get ready, luck taps. I thought I was the only one lol
Great old cards you was the dude nobody couldn't find hiding and only a small plug...Joey I think I seen a freckle bro.. lol great vid Moss ✌ peace out...
damn i underestimated how much the Mirage cards were going to hit me right in the feels....great memories with some of these cards. i used to think Urborg Panther had the coolest art when i was younger....damn if half your audience doesnt know what islandwalk is that would make me sad...phasing i get but even still its pretty relevant keyword even today. Flanking is the one a lot of people have a hard time with. Im going to say 90% of the BBG community know what phasing and islandwalk are.
Joey are you one of the acolytes? The video was banging, Ghostatic is so good!! Ive opened so much Mirage in my day, brings back memories. Thank you Joey.
Some of those Mirage basic lands are worth a good bit; the "sunset island" at 8:00, "red mountain" at 8:08, and the "swamp with eyes" at 8:19 can all fetch between two and five bucks. it's a bit of a niche market, but there are definitely people out there thirsty for boutique basics. other good ones are the "Lightning Island" from Urza's Saga, Ice Age snow-covereds, and of course basic lands from Portal and Un-series expansions.
Right in the nostalgia... Started playing MTG and soon after mirage was released...... Tried to play mtg arena yesterday... I suck... so many habilities and new sinergies... I think kids would have a very dificult time playing MTG at the current state...
Man I was hoping for something big with that artifact. Yesterday I stumbled across some TH-camr I've never seen before that was opening what he claimed to be a thrift store purchase for $25 and he was saying he didn't know the value on any of the cards but he skimmed across a lion's eye diamond, a revised bayou, plus there was a revised demonic tutor among some other nice cards and they all seemed to be in pretty good condition. Admittedly I'm calling BS on that being a legitimate thrift store find
Yeah that was crazy. Flipped past a LED. He was clearly someone who knew the original cards like Bayou. That kind of find is honestly once in a lifetime at this point and what all of us collectors pray to find
I bought 2 of these for 50 each when I was opening stuff on my channel. Wish I had not opened them, there is not much value to be found when opened. This is one of the many older sets that are impossible to make money by cracking packs.
mirage was the least purchased set in my day absolute crap garbage . I started in beta. my dci # is less then 1k.. . was a fun time but this set sucks balls.
Man you just keep the hits coming Joey. So glad to be apart of this community it’s something special

I miss those! Having a full deck worth of cards in the box was fun.

Man i opened so many of these back in the day. I started playing couple years before Tempest came out.
I love seeing these packs I opened back in the day when I was fully engulfed in card board crack
I remember this was the first set that got my brother and I into Magic, and one of those starter tournament decks was one of the first things he bought. I remember decks like that were $9.99 and kid me was like, that's so expensive! Oh sweet summer child...

The art in this was ahead of its time. Maro had me tripping.

damn i underestimated how much the Mirage cards were going to hit me right in the feels....great memories with some of these cards. i used to think Urborg Panther had the coolest art when i was younger....damn if half your audience doesnt know what islandwalk is that would make me sad...phasing i get but even still its pretty relevant keyword even today. About to turn 45. Started with Revised and Mirage/Visions/WL were my last block until Mirrodin block. Poor college and post graduation years. 😂

The coolest thing you got out of that was the deck box :D Hey, but remember that time you pulled a Cradle?! Chin up my friend.
Big ole L
Infernal contract is great!. Dark ritual , contract first turn. Was win.
Great break.
You are one of the standing bodies in black in Ghostatic video?!
So did you live in the video 😀....Awesome Music video
Damn Joey Moss! Continuing to get your Magic Gucci on, aren't you?
my first deck ❤
I was 10 at the time. It definitely wasn’t the best product to start learning magic with
Cool that was what I started with…and the ice age one.
Whoa, islandwalk?! Man, I used to love all those old landwalk abilities. Wonder if WotC still prints cards with that ability on them…
Chatterfang, Squirrel General has Forestwalk
Was you the eye in the Ghostatic video?
Thanks for these cool openings. Was hoping you would spike something better but was fun to watch none the less
Are you one of the black clad figures around him in the Ghostatic video?
Love you shows and vibes keep those vids coming .
Right in the nostalgia... Started playing MTG and soon after mirage was released...... Tried to play mtg arena yesterday... I suck... so many habilities and new sinergies... I think kids would have a very dificult time playing MTG at the current state...
Island walk means that it can’t be blocked if your opponent controls an island I believe
Worth it just for the old art. Love it
Infernal contract is a neat card in Spanish inquisition
Blasting barrier art !! That begs me back !
You right in the beginning of the music video do. White shirt and face paint
Sup Joey? Thanks for the opening! Are you the back center hooded acolyte?
Yes
Very nice centering in this starter
If every box was awesome it wouldn't be excited anymore

That heart skip at the end from suspense
Hey joey do you plan on doing any alpha or beta stuff. I'd love to see your reaction to pulling something crazy from the og sets
Was talking about this today
Rash of rhinos OP card back in the day !!
From a buying aspect back when these came out I think I liked Visions more than the Mirage set.
Man I was hoping for something big with that artifact. Ah,memories.

My wife hand makes dream catchers for our daughters and around our home.
I smoke to much weed to have dreams
I wish the new product's were more like this and less like bulk mess.
it your eye looking through the eye hole in the video
cool vid... hate that faithless looting art
Your one of the people in black and your on ghostatics right hand side
All the cards are centered except the rares, which are offset to the right ... that's really bad luck!
🤯
Ouch 💩but spectral guardian not bad
You used all your luck yesterday
Lands look incomplete because they are a mirage
Lit
💚🌴
That playmat needs to BURN
Are you the eyeball looking through the peep hole
Nope
I wish WOTC would get rid of those dumb ass theme boosters and bring these back at like $12.95 each. They would be flying off the shelves.
Skadoosh first
Who wants to buy my whole collection🤣🤣🤣
1st comment?
Your playmat carpet looks bad, I dont mean to diss or anything.
I nice opening spoiled by the worst playmat ever. I was trying to forget that garbage art was a magic card

That is the ugliest playmat in existence
