My favourite chaplain is the one with the power fist doing the 'ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!' pose. Also, Garaghak's Sewer is an amazing brown contrast paint
Oh god, I used to work with a guy who used to be a vellum manufacturer... he said it was the worst smell known to mankind, the production process for vellum
I always figured it was some lost-to-the-ages space material, 'cause paper, vellum or cloth is gonna be gone after the first 10 seconds out of the drop pod. I mean, no matter what, it looks cool!
Super happy to see more of these “converting SM kits into black Templars” videos. Jay does a wonderful job of turning these marines into HIS marines, and it’s truly inspiring.
3:11 regarding the shoulder pad, the Iron Skull is a mark of command (you see it on the helmets of sergeants, captain armour etc); and it's surrounded by an Iron Halo, which is an award given for exceptional leadership, strategy and initiative. So this guy is (or at least was) heavily commended for his leadership skills
Now I feel like I'm the weirdo. This one is my fav of the Primaris chaplain variants! I went and turned the Indomitus model into an Emperor's Champion... Regardless, it was a joy to watch you work and the end result is still heads and shoulders above the original. Wonderful work.
At this point I am that one guy. Who loves the models everyone hates. The desolation sqaud, primaris Chaplin, Lieutenant with combi-weapon I am that guy now. When someone asks who would like this.
I bought YET ANOTHER Chaplain in Terminator Armour for my birthday, so that'll make 5, I think... maybe 6, I got hooked after watching YOUR video on Chaplains. This is why it's so dangerous to watch an EoB video, I'm gunna need another Primaris Chaplain edit: Oh my gaahhd, he looks gorgeous.
My favourite chaplain was the old 3thd edition one. I had three. One just foot slogging, one with a jump pack and the last on a bike. They were quite thematic as well seeing as I played Blood Angels.
I got to say that Chaplains leading the Death Company are the most unique. Awesome work! I wish I could paint half as good as yo but I got shaky hands.
That's an excellent Chaplain. I used to LOVE kitbashing/converting these when i was younger but I struggle to get excited by the Primaris models. The old jumppack chaplain or power fist model were my favourites. Trying to replicate them was great fun Random aside, i love the pattern of your water cup for your brushes 😂
I own a grand total of zero chaplains, but looking at this, I gotta say it’s an impressive army! :D maybe my Sons Of Medusa could do with having one in there… one day… maybe
Chaplains where always one of my favorite 40k characters. The first biker model I got was the bald headed chaplain on the motorbike and the Death company Chaplain with the skull mask. Classics.
All that I had to do to make my chaplain go from my least favorite model I own to an almost auto include in every list was... Paint it different. Just replaced the bone with metal and made the purity seals look like cloth and I loved him. Also used a chrome marker I normally use on my gunpla kits on the bonk stick skull so now it's not just metallic, but shiny to the point it's mirrored
I've done a few of these, they're actually a great canvas for chapter flavour if you're okay with kitbashing Firstly, Headswaps are a vibe, the reiver kit has a bunch of skull-helm options. Bare heads also look great Secondly, the crozius just needs a flavorful backpack icon instead of the tiny skull that comes standard. Just be sure to pin it Finally, a bolt pistol swap is great, since firstborn boltguns are about the size of the absolver bolt pistol, so chapter specific upgrades work excellent here, also, in the case of Black Templars, swapping the entire right arm for one from the crusade squad kit is way better for flavour purposes
Depending on your Army List for Blood Angels, Chaplains become pretty essential as well if you're running Death Company, Lemartes being a pretty powerful HQ as well and could be proxied for a Chaplain with Jump Pack BA Chaplains are needed in 10th for DC units to retain objective control and depending on the Chaplain, will also buff DC units in different ways, some really powerful since BA really like to Charge and Melee
I used this model to make a BT Judiciar, used the Sword of Judgement right arm from the upgrade sprue, and used a spare left arm with hand flamer (I know not wysiwyg) and used the studded Mark III shoulder pad for the left shoulder and one of the Castellan shoulder pads from the Sword Bro Kit on the right shoulder. Rule of cool over wysiwyg for me.
I mean if you want more plastic to buy, what about adding chapter exclusive chaplains like rune priests and converting them to look more black templar? could probably get a video out of that.
After many years of consideration I recently started Warhammer 40k, this guy was one of the first I got for my army! I actually love his base look, but your kitbash with him looks so damn awesome!
My personal favourite Chaplain is the Bloodangels Chaplain with jumppack. I recolered it to fit my grey knight army and i just love the way it looks with the wings.
For mine I replaced his head with the firstborn Blood Angels chaplain, whom I converted into a Captain so I'm happy the gorgeous helmet didn't go to waste. 😁
If you want contrast brown heres a way to do it which I used on my slapchop thousand sons tzangors. Mix bugmans glow with nuln oil and lots of water and it escentially becomes contrast paint. Though it does have a bit too much pink in it so using another brown paint might be nice
I had a friend give me one that wasn't put together or painted cause he was moving and getting out of the hobby. However, I was looking it over and admiring it when I noticed some things and I'm sure it's a recast. It's not a bad one either after some mold line removal and a nice paint job I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference unless told.
You can end up making a Sub-Chapter, strictly filled with Chaplains, and call them "Last Rites". Their Motto.... "Your God may judge me, but mine will watch you Burn!"
I know it can't be used for the black Templars army, but I feel like as such a connoisseur of the chaplain, You should get a wolf priest or Ulric the Slayer for being some of the most unique of the chaplains in modern history
Excellent work, you've improved that very Overwatch-looking figure (the new Maugin Ra figure suffers from that same issue), and I like that you've improved the Croizus too. GW should have included at least three alternate heads for this Chaplin figure, they're not big on extra bits these days and as a sad result people's space marine armies tend to look very samey unless they're chapter specific models.
2:18 He looks good hate the lack of a helm with a burning passion though the point of moat chaplains is that those helmets do not come off outside of their private reliquary
You need ALL chaplains. That means Interrogator chaplains, Lemartes, old and young Cassius, Ulrik, Wolf Priests(?), etc. Oh and the BA death company dreadnought, since he gives the same vibes
This goes well with recent rumor of a new chaplain in Terminator armor being revealed at Nova for the SM reveal. Hopefully it lives up to your expectations and if not I guess thatll be another kitbash video you can make in the future haha. Also I believe you forgot the chaplain dreadnought if Im not mistaken. I dont remember much about it but remember watching a lore video on dreadnoughts once and it popped up
It came out in 2017 after 8th edition was released June of that year. I agree, that model like 90% of the Primaris range just looked bad. Why does it have an iron halo? Chaplains had a Rosarius. Also, the leather trench coat with line-of-sight blocking hood, Flintstones breastplate, and as you mentioned, poorly designed crozius and purity seals.
Chaplains are my favorite unit in the univere i think. They are superb grimdark. As a wolf player, they are also incredible. You are 100% right to crush the crozius on this stupid chaplain. haha
I really, really liked this chaplain model honestly. Maybe it's the hood and cloak, maybe it's the skull crozius, but I had to get one as soon as I saw it.
The paper change was bad imo. Looks like cloth being stretched by weights, so it makes sense that there aren't folds. You also didn't modify the back of it, which is now straight while the front is folded. The rest looks amazing, like always.
Hey Jay , as a dark angels player and fellow chaplain enthusiast (of the interrogator variety i should say, i think i have/kitbashed about a dozen of those myself, i even have been working on one off of the old metal kharn the betrayer of all models ....oh well, i made a librarian from an old metal ahriman before that so....i guess some of you would say i always played chaos space marines from the start so no big deal right? Lol), i have to chime in here and say that for me at least, the black templars are a crazy underrated supplemental source of unique bits and decals to spice up my dark angels with and likely vice-versa too if one decides to go for a black templars army instead(those old kits that came with weapons chained to the arms and unique meltaguns and such in particular have been incredibly useful to me, shame that they're not around anymore though). So as far as I'm concerned...winged swords and big chunky templar crosses are all fair game in either chapter, it's all about how you end up using them nowadays so...hell, even my company veterans, I've built a bunch of them out of old pewter space wolves with minor modifications and they look great (and yes, i can imagine some of you here will be doubly shocked now at my audacity perhaps and I can't blame you for that really), but i guess I've always liked the idea of marines being prone to personalizing their weapons and armour with unique trinkets and family heraldry etc., so it all looks eclectic but i find it works out really well....makes my army feel pretty damn unique. That leather looked a-mazing
I've been putting off new hobby clippers for about 2 years, I should probably buy new ones
If you want more chaplain, looks at the "legion of the damned", they have good potential to be convert into chaplain.
My favourite chaplain is the one with the power fist doing the 'ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!' pose. Also, Garaghak's Sewer is an amazing brown contrast paint
Garaghak's sewer is the bomb for leather. It's honestly my favourite contrast paint.
And it's perfect for terrain with a Leadbelcher undercoat
Try it over a silver metallic paint and then add a few bits of verdigris here and there - amazing for old pipes and machines etc
when you complete your collection, you'll have to start converting dark apostles
HERESY!
i did that and love how he looks
Hey Jay, love the Chaplains, they're awesome models. However, you forgot someone in that list of missing models, the Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought.
And Jay has a Huge collection of Dreadnoughts too!
No wrinkles thing is because of the weights on the ends. Also I think they use vellum, so not really paper.
Oh god, I used to work with a guy who used to be a vellum manufacturer... he said it was the worst smell known to mankind, the production process for vellum
I think it’s made out of sheep skin?
@@angusbyers More or less, other skins work too. Making the skins for leather smells insanely bad and is really polluting.
I always thought those dangly things were cloth, like a fancy Catholic priest outfit.

I love my Primaris chaplain and think the Lieu with combi is cool too. I just wish they didn't have a hundred lieutenants.
I will stand by you, brother. The primaris chaplain rips. I don't like the desolation marines though so I gotta push you off the cliff now
Love my primaris chaplain
Love his pimp cane
I have the Indominus Chaplain and I plan to kitbash it into a Wolf Priest, salvaging the head to use for my assault intercessor who rocks a bionic arm
Legend has it that Jay will never have enough chaplains
Black templar player moment
I love the Primaris Chaplain, it’s one of my favourite models tbh, I really enjoyed painting him too, which helps haha 😅
"Feels more like a video game character."
Leandros: "Someone's talking about me."
You can't fake that joy and enthusiasm. Lovely to watch!

I think the model is mostly fine, but I do like your kitbash. Changing the crozius tip and the shoulder pad really personalizes it.
I own a grand total of zero chaplains, but looking at this, I gotta say it’s an impressive army! :D maybe my Sons Of Medusa could do with having one in there… one day… maybe
Nice job. I recently modified mine as well. I think those long purity seals are intended to be fabric stoles.
2:29 "I will die on this world" chills yo.
Chaplains where always one of my favorite 40k characters. The first biker model I got was the bald headed chaplain on the motorbike and the Death company Chaplain with the skull mask. Classics.

Another Black Templar joins the Brotherhood. Good job, I now have several Ideas.
Chaplains are cool!! Nice kitbashing!!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
Love the content. Thank you for making every Monday and Wednesday a little more exciting.
I made my own chaplain out of a tac-marine, he is brother Ballius of the emperor's drip. All his trim is gold.
That skull in the star on his right pauldron is one of the symbols that represent a command role like the arrow used for battleline squads
"That's not a Crozius"
Exactly that's : "José on a stick"(JeffDunham©) , first thing in my mind when i saw this model ! 🤣
Man Jay, no one has critiques for models that I don’t understand the way you do. But you’re right about the Crozius, it is insufficient
That looks so much nicer! Great work on it, EPIC.
At first I didn’t mind the original, but your take on it made it freaking awesome. Well done.
The perfect centerpiece chaplain for your collection will be the mark4 chaplain dreadnought that was from forgeworld. But good luck trying to buy one!
I have one and it’s my prized possession
I had a friend give me one that wasn't put together or painted cause he was moving and getting out of the hobby. However, I was looking it over and admiring it when I noticed some things and I'm sure it's a recast. It's not a bad one either after some mold line removal and a nice paint job I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference unless told.
"I've been cannibalizing him for years" is such a worrying sentence without proper context
That was an impressive batch of chaplains at the end. Nice job!!!
What about the terminator Chaplin with the skull musk ? HES BAD ARSE !
No, your rogue trader chaplain on jet bike is your best chaplain.
Fight me.
I love seeing you kitbash. You should do way more kitbashing!
"That's not a Crozius, that's a STICK!" 🤣
You can end up making a Sub-Chapter, strictly filled with Chaplains, and call them "Last Rites".

My favourite chapy is the jump pack one, it's the one that my dad owns and i just love it
What about the chaplains in other chapters ? The Dark Angels and Blood Angels ones could lok good if you kitbash them a bit !
Really nice video jay !
I thought I saw a kitbashed Lemartes (jet pack one) and the 2nd edition Death Company Chaplain in his collection.
@@Battouga I don't think that is Lemartes, I did at first but none of the details are the same.
I've always wanted to use the primaris Chaplain on bike's chest to make a custom Chaplain. but I never have the time spare to model these days.
2:25 Damn I like the Chaplin you hate more than all those lol! I think the hooded guy looks sick.
2:40 'The Hero of Helsreach'...
...as if there were only one.
*stares mounfully off into distance*
I know base size wouldn't work, but you could use them to proxy an intercessor squad or a kill team and call it the A-men.
I think you forgot about the Dark Angeles Interogator Chaplain.
Someone, just send him missing chaplains - I need more of that content
Excellent work, you've improved that very Overwatch-looking figure (the new Maugin Ra figure suffers from that same issue), and I like that you've improved the Croizus too. GW should have included at least three alternate heads for this Chaplin figure, they're not big on extra bits these days and as a sad result people's space marine armies tend to look very samey unless they're chapter specific models.
Can’t believe you would disrespect the chaplain pimp cane like that!
Nice conversion, I have 4 early chaplains not shown on your video, although the early chaplains were of variable quality.
Don't forget that Tournament reward only Terminator Chaplain that Tarentus was based off of
You can really smell the paint
In this video
2:18 He looks good hate the lack of a helm with a burning passion though the point of moat chaplains is that those helmets do not come off outside of their private reliquary
Yessss the chaplains kick ass, and that rogue trader jet bike chaplain is amazing, I want one
You need ALL chaplains. That means Interrogator chaplains, Lemartes, old and young Cassius, Ulrik, Wolf Priests(?), etc. Oh and the BA death company dreadnought, since he gives the same vibes

I wanna see a game where Jay plays a game with just his chaplains
I really, really liked this chaplain model honestly. Maybe it's the hood and cloak, maybe it's the skull crozius, but I had to get one as soon as I saw it.
I got a Rougue Traider one on a bike with a sidecar rocking a multimelter - bonkers!
The paper change was bad imo. Looks like cloth being stretched by weights, so it makes sense that there aren't folds. You also didn't modify the back of it, which is now straight while the front is folded.
The rest looks amazing, like always.
Chaplain dreadnought is my favorite, sadly I was never able to get my hands on one.
Keep up the quality work guys, cheers!
my heart desires the chaplain in terminator armor so much i dont even LIKE space marines but that thing just oozes pure cool
GW kindly provided a spare crozius with their new Terminator Chaplain.
I have the jump pack chaplain and the terminator one where the helmet just looks like a complete skull
Naming one of the cool and most power looking guys "sticky ikky" is the most hardest shit i've seen 💀💀
I like the long purity seals, remind me of the stole from a priest costume.
You know.. I started this vid like, really? that's a cool mini. As i watched, I totally agree with everything you said lol. I have this mini, but i have yet to paint it..hadnt paid much attention to the stick and triangle head, but you are correct
Funny that the Chaplain's beat stick looks the same as the Harlequin Shadowseer beat stick.
"Pimp Chaplain in da house!" - 2016 Chaplain
Can't wait to see what he does once the new Terminator chaplain is launched
I think the hood is angular because they decided to try to sculpt it with the ridge of a Space Marine helmet in mind. To me that makes a bit of sense, but its still a little weird.
What are those little pins you use on top of the skull? They look amazing!
Dude, Jay: KITBASH A DREADNOUGHT CHAPLAIN!
Looking at those dangly things, I think there you made a mistake treating them as paper, especially given the weights at the bottom, and the buckles at the top. I'd lean more toward some form of leather. If they were paper, they'd be ripped away in a heartbeat the second those weights started swinging...
Hey jay! Love your channel. I was hoping to get the paints you use for your Templar bases. Keep up the fun content!
Rinox hide with skrag brown highlights then drenched with hardened leather speed paint slaps.
Looks good but that that black armor really doesn't read as black to me. Not even a particularly dark grey either.
nice to see my favourite meme model has a kitbash now
That chaplain is my second favoutite, if i had to choose, most loved is chaplain on bike!
I've tried the contrasts, but I just keep coming back to the ol' layering/glazing. I'll dry brush the majority of the base colours, but finish off with the glazing. I just feel like I have more control, and I much prefer the result.
I have 7 chaplains in total, 5 for my ultramarines and 2 for dark Angels, need other 5 for the Smurfs and then Chaplain Cassius(hoping they do a Primaris version of him)
I love the blood angels specific chaplain
