Comparing prices to a couple decades ago, GW prices have gone up barely above inflation in the UK while sculpt quality has gone way up. Its never really been a cheap hobby.
The issue with GWs prices isn't really the price itself but mainly when they do things like cut sanguinary guard (or anything else) from 5 to 3, make short supply of boxes to get money from FOMO, make models you bought previously with money obsolete in game etc.

      @seanmalloy7249 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jrjp01 And sometimes you're stupid until you kill a product; this is what Hasbro did do Heroscape. The rules divide units into uniques and commons; when you build an army, you can only have one of any unique unit, but as many of each common unit as you want. But in an 'inspired' marketing decision, Hasbro would only sell expansion sets to the game stores in whole boxes, which had the three different common packages and the one unique package -- so players would buy _one_ of the unique packages and several of a common package they were interested in, but for every 'extra' common package they bought, the game store wound up with a unique package they couldn't sell, because the game rules meant you couldn't use extras. Rather than build up unsellable inventory, the game stores reduced their orders, and Hasbro watched the sales drop until they decided to pull the plug on the game entirely, instead of looking at _why_ the sales were dropping and fire the *one* person who'd made the whole-box sales decision.
All it takes is overweening greed -- or overweening stupidity -- and a company can easily cripple themselves because they *won't* see that what _they're_ doing is the crux of the problem, and it's not the playerbase losing interest in the game.

Maybe if they stopped trying to be a media conglomerate and just licensed out the IP to people who already have the capital to do a whole tv season or feature film, they wouldn’t need to keep revenue so bloody high.
They need to do three things; one cut the animation studio and license the ip, two free rules with warhammer plus, thirdly have factories or auxiliary factories in their biggest international markets. Put one in Japan (they do incredible minis, one in the US or Canada, on in aus or nz. That dramatic cut import tax and shipping letting those savings be passed to their consumers which will make bring in more customers. They are one of the biggest toy companies in the whole world, they can’t continue being stupid and trying to use a single factory. They’ll literally implode if that factory becomes inoperable. In the case of the First Founding Special Edition book, the reason it's not sold out is actually quite sneaky: It's a "special order item" (ie they'll make as many as they get orders) so it literally cannot get sold out (while the order period is open).
I was almost tempted to buy this one, because I'm a sucked for collector book and GW did a perfect job at conditioning me to think their collectors book are very valuable due to their extremely limited run... but this one isn't even a limited run.
Then I realized it's a A4 sized book, that shows up with a handful of very cheap looking A4 "posters" (if you could even call them that), a set of coins that while nice is literally just cheap stuff you'll get made for pennies in a chinese factory, and a book that's not particularly thick.... AND ITS NOT EVEN "rare" since it's print on demand.
200 bucks for that is INSANE!
Even 100 would be stretching it. GW has totally lost the plot.

The thing is, unlike other limited edition books like Eidolon, they don't make any mention of book having a serial number or anything...

… The Necron rules have barely changed since their codex released. They’ve been one of the most stable armies in Warhammer since 10th editions start…
      And I don’t even like 10th.
The majority of Necron changes have been to their points costs, and making sure that their rules are clear. Prime example being that of nerfing the Plasmancer + Tesla Immortals 5+ Exploding (as in more to hit rolls are generated) Devastating Wounds (wounds that counted as Mortal Wounds) in Canoptek court. It was changed so that only Canoptek units could use that-… in a rule set that is designed to benefit canoptek units…
And I am going to say this, and it will sound mean: but you’re an idiot.
You sold an army based on how it played, rather than how they looked, rather than how much you liked their lore. Their stories… Thats incredibly shallow.
The GAME, is a very tiny portion of Warhammer. There is more books, and lore, than games that could be played. There is more time to be spent painting, and relaxing with your models, than playing.
Who cares if this edition is changing too frequently. Either wait until the next edition, OR do what I did and play an older edition.
The rule books are free, as they’ve been out of print for years, and so are archived. You can use proxy models. No one will fault you for not having era appropriate models in those cases.
And going to be real: 4th edition has been the most fun I’ve had with a 40K system.

I'm looking into a skirmish wargame to buy and was looking between kill team hivestorm and moonstone, hivestorm is 180€ and both starter editions of moonstone is 180€ (you can play with 4 if you got both), but with hivestorm you get 22 figures and terrain with moonstone you get 16 figures but a new kind of combat (i like to call it poker combat).
Currently i'm thinking of buying moonstone and then when hivestorm is like 50% off.

i think the most important factor, when purchasing a game, to play, is who will you play it with. so depending on what your local community plays, or friends and family are interested in. you should def take that into mind. part of why i play almost exclusively games workshop games, is because they are the largest/most popular. so because i play regularly, i will always gravitate towards the most popular games. it doesnt mean i wont play other games, but i've seen hundreds of games and companies come and go over the last 30 years. GW is a pillar of tabletop gaming, so i always gravitate towards them. but i do play games like D&D also, but who you will play with, and what type of ongoing support the games will have, are very important factors. cheers. good luck with your decision, and have fun gaming!

Issue two is the pricing if they want people to buy the sets they have to make the deal better or lower the price which favors the consumer. Under production favors recasts and 3d printing who can fill in the demand of the average consumer for cheaper

I haven't seen explicit advertising that generates FOMO, I think they just haven't kept up with growth (scaling manufacturing is not trivial) up until recently.
I bought Hivestorm at full price and I don't feel like I was ripped off; there's a lot of plastic in there and it comes with lots of supplements. I'm glad higher stocks will mean more people can get it at a lower price, but people with the means to get it weren't ripped off.

I don't see how people complain about GW prices when milk and everything else has gone up dramatically. If anything, I would say GW is doing a good job of keeping the hobby affordable. They sell a lot of extra fluff like brand name brushes and such, but the people complaining about prices have already put thousands of hours and dollars into the hobby already. Their value per dollar per hour is WAY higher than mine right now, and I still feel I got a good deal on money spent. I've played 10 games of killteam by myself and I am so happy I've found a multifaceted tactical war game tabletop hobby to sink into.
I used to pay for video games, spending ludicrous amounts for titles I won't ever pick up again, in digital form. I can't even play dawn of war 1 remaster as LAN. The software is no longer supported.
You want to talk overpriced? Look at the gaming industry crash right now. Consumers are waking up to the lack of value per hour that video games afford them.
People who have been in the hobby for years may complain about pricing, but they're living in am echochamber. Also. Why do you need to build another space marine chapter army? Can you really paint like it's a full time job? Who paints so much and so fast that they run themselves out of income on this hobby?
