Jay, your use of non-black-black is really good and I appreciate being able to see the details. Can’t wait for your next iteration of the perfect Black Templars next year ❤
I love the way you go about doing black armour, because its looks more like a blackened metal than a painted armour, to me this still reads as black and in my opinion GW could learn a thing or two from your technique.
I love the diorama idea. PLEASE DO IT!!! Also just a quick thank you. Your painting has inspired me numerous times when I’ve started getting fatigued with it.
Jay, Thank you so mush for that wet pallet video you made 2 years ago, i just painted a Star Wars Legion General Grievous and it looks magnificent and it is great.
I've been really enjoying watching this series as it ticks along, and seeing you dive a little into each of the chapter's lore as you go. But as a chaos player at heart I would love to see you tackle all of the chaos legions as well!
It’s awesome to see about her black Templar maniac. They where my first army since I started, granted it was only 8 years ago but I have slowly amassed quite a force.
i love your almost weekly different space marine chapters! after all the big ones are knocked out, i would love your take on those unlucky lamenters! or some 30k color schemes on some MK6 marines. they come in such high quantities in a box, there should be enough for all of them surely
Would like to see Imperial Fists next! Outstanding painting as always, also glad to see more of your Black Templars, they're truly "yours" love the original details you give em
Although crusade squad initiates typically have black trim, close quarter units do have red trim. Now black is a classic but i actually use black for ranged units and red for close quarters units so that my units have a mix of colors. Off-black is always better honestly. I do mine black with dark jade and teal lighly drybrushed on.
Being a newer person to the hobby, your videos have been a great help. I've just finished my first models today, bases and all! They are clone troopers stationed on a jungle planet, thick with foliage and blue crystals jutting out of the ground. And their armor has green markings to help them better blend into the planets terrain. While not the greatest by any means, your advice really helped me navigate my way through the process. And I just wanted to thank you! :D I've also just built a Captain in Gravis Armor model, so I'm looking forward to painting him as well! (He's going to be a Crimson Fist! :D)
I just started painting miniatures. I don’t play the game but I absolutely love it. My first box was grey knight, terminators I finished two. I would love to see you paint some.
I've been painting a ton of Carcharodons (Space Sharks!) lately and I would love to see your take on the scroll-work on their armor! Lots of folks take inspiration from Maui tattoo designs but I don't think we have ever gotten a concrete description of the designs in any books.
I think your templar look great, but I actually go opposed to your thoughts. My Deathwatch are INKY black. Its a similar mix but one layer of Black Templar contrast over a layer of Leviadon contrast. I want them to look void-black. But I love the unique heraldry per mini you do. I go a bit similar but I think I might lean into the tilt shields on more models.
Love your recipe for the armor, I have a friend that is building Our Martyred Lady and I may borrow your recipe for when I inevitably paint something for him again as a gift.
As a Dark Angels player I unironically love the Crusader squad box, add in a few shields and you have 6x Bladeguard Veterans and 4 scouts, needing just one more kitbashed scout to get 3 boxes worth of guys.
I would LOVE to see how you'd do a Sons of the Phoenix color scheme. I'm about to get back into the tabletop after years of not having picked up a paint brush and am pretty set on SotP as my chapter of choice.
Always nice to see someone painting a fringe chapter and I have never seen or heard of these space marines before! :) How about painting the most famous chapter? The one that started it all way back in 1987.Crimson fists! A Horus Heresy MK VI beakie will look awesome painted up by someone with your painting prowess!
I have been a BT fan for a long time and ive no fuckin clue how i wasnt aware of the lore tid bit about the skulls being the previous marines who used the power armor. That is so fuckin metal its amazing! Thankyou for that Jay
Your technique is awesome, and I can see how you can quickly create a horde of Black Templars that are way beyond table top standard! But, I still think the plate is too light, like a sort of Heresy era Space Wolves... Maybe a coat of Nuln Oil would be the ticket?
Black Dragons - 21st (Cursed) Founding - Their bone blades should be cool to see on your models. Blood Ravens - Unknown Founding - Mostly just a DoW ask. Crimson Fists - 2nd Founding - The first chapter to ever be seen, having been on the cover art of Rogue Trader. Deathwatch - Ordo Xenos - You can basically use whatever chapter you want with this one. Flesh Tearers - 2nd Founding - A more vicious form of the Blood Angels chapter (they actually take pride in the Red Thirst, and are quite a lot more prone to the Black Rage than their progenitors). Plenty of opportunities for chain weapons. Also, Gabriel Seth's take on the Primaris Marines is based. Grey Knights - Ordo Malleus - Can you do this without any of the special parts? Or will you cave? Iron Snakes - 2nd Founding - Out of all art of space marines, one of my favourite will always be that one Marine with the respirator with a grill like that of a snarling beast, and the giant, thick, slab-like pauldrons. It's such an evocative image. Lamenters - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The checkered pattern on the pauldrons will give you a good challenge. Plus, we gotta love these boys. Mantis Warriors - Possible 8th Founding - Stealthy Samurai Marines. Rainbow Warriors - Unknown Founding - You invoked their name. Now you must make them. In the official lore, there's next to no information about them (though they do have rainbow-coloured plasma weapons according to a Trazyn novel), but there is someone who decided to do their own version of the Rainbow Warriors as an Aztec-themed chapter. Good luck on the fine rainbow stripes. Storm Giants - Unknown Founding (possibly during the 36th Millennium, so between 15th through 21st foundings, maybe older) - These Salamanders successors are described as being even larger and stronger than the marines of other chapters. I wanna see how you can do with kitbashing the size of your marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines.
Jay, please try out some world eaters berserkers!, im struggling to decide how best to go about them and your ideas are always just so great. You being able to use constrast paints on space marines instead of going straight to the airbrush is just so fun. But yeh, world eaters! Red an gold, or red and brass or something new, gimme some hints and tips with all that trim!
The most generous recruitment process 😂 "anyone can be a space racist! You, little boy! Do you hate aliens, witches, and anyone who doesn't look like you? Perfect! Welcome aboard!"
with grey templars you can do full chipping, so sponge with black first and paint the sprinkles with a light grey and some metal, you know what i mean, but just metal is the fastest way.
There's something you should try on a one-off Templar. Try using Black 4.0 for the color, just to see how it comes out with the proper void black scheme.
Been trying and retrying to paint some black Templars. I don’t like all the black NMM out there cause it just looks like silver. But this looks fantastic.
To be fair I agree with you completely on the black paint thing. I would never use black as my final main colour for any figures, I'd always work in the darker end of greyscale for it. Black just isn't dynamic enough to be able to really paint it and keep it visually interesting at the same time!
I would love to see a different variation of your black cause i do like your black templars look great but if you do ever have a chance try Dark Angel, Ravenwing specifically the outriders or ravenwing command squad or Black Knights they are a black as well
Excellent video, with great breakdown of stages that i feel could be applied to different colour schemes! Please do something on Dark Angels, might be abit much to ask but how about doing a bonus where you cover the Green, Bone and Black of each 😇 Ill ❤ you long time if you include extra painting stages to turn normal troops into elite by adding the respective colours of each branch of the chapter. Please Jay, your the only one i trust with this!
I would love, love, love if you could do a Lamenters video! They're my favourite chapter but I hate the desaturated mustard yellow or the orange of Imperial Fists. I like bright yellow, vibrant against the dark red of Baal and the guts of the xenos enemy 😄
Jay this is the 7th year in a row you’ve shown “perfected my Black Templars scheme” in class
it's a meta commentary on how you never truly perfect your army scheme, yet you should never cease trying
He just thinks they're neat!
Jay is a secret Emperor's Children devotee, confirmed.
See you next year! - Jay
Totally heard this as the teacher from Jimmy Neutron getting after Sheen for showing Ultra Lord for show and tell lol 😂
Is this the fifth time we’ve had perfect black Templars 💀💀
His perfect grey templars

literally me watching this at 5 am on my last break
Jay, your use of non-black-black is really good and I appreciate being able to see the details. Can’t wait for your next iteration of the perfect Black Templars next year ❤
Forget the haters. Pure black doesn't look as good as what you have created. Keep on doing what you do.
Looks more like the 50 shades of grey Templars :D
@@Theberzerkers121Slaneeshii Templars
Black Templar keep sounds like a perfect future terrain pack.
How is it that you’ve never painted thousand sons? They’re so up your alley
I'm shocked he hasn't painted a Warpcoven Kill Team yet, considering how obsessed with Kill Team his is.
Jay would have a field day with Tsons lol
There's too many of them
Their my favorite
Wait a damn second, @freedomgeek2097 aren’t you on the cooks server?
I love the way you go about doing black armour, because its looks more like a blackened metal than a painted armour, to me this still reads as black and in my opinion GW could learn a thing or two from your technique.
I love your Black Templars, every time I'm watching one of your videos I want to paint my BT immediately
I love the diorama idea. PLEASE DO IT!!!
Also just a quick thank you. Your painting has inspired me numerous times when I’ve started getting fatigued with it.
The little shield is called an 'Ecranche'. It was used as a target in jousting and serves no practical purpose on a battlefield.
Does it not provide extra armor since its usually on the shooting arm?
It adds the cool factor

Jay, Thank you so mush for that wet pallet video you made 2 years ago, i just painted a Star Wars Legion General Grievous and it looks magnificent and it is great.
Must be so rewarding to be able to demonstrate all your experience. Something for us all to aspire to...

Would like to see a Carcharodon next on this one marine series
I been asking for this since day one haha
I don't care how many videos you put out on your Black Templars, I always like watching you paint them.
Maybe the perfect black templar is the friends we made along the way
Your black Templar are the absolute best I’ve seen. You are making me debate whether to start a BT army with the your scheme, or Dark Angels.
You are a great painter, but also a great presenter! I really enjoy the clear instructions and speech.

fella just described 10th edition SM as a whole
This is what ive been looking for! Just started with black templars as my first army!
Would LOVE to see a shot of all your painted Black Templar army together!
I just started painting miniatures. I don’t play the game but I absolutely love it. My first box was grey knight, terminators I finished two. I would love to see you paint some.

Man, you just inspire me to keep painting my black Templar army one day it will get as big as yours.
OMG a BT collector after my own heart! I also prefer using the water decals vs the increased painting work the chapter specific shoulder pads require!
As a fellow black Templar fan you don’t have to explain yourself jay that color scheme is sick
Jay, the Howling Griffons would be a really fun scheme to see you tackle! I would love to see your approach to the cross hatched colors they have!
That looks sick man. Well done!
I love how consistently you update your black Templar recipe
Greetings from Northern Ireland... always enjoy your painting vids - keep 'em coming!
Thanks for another video. They've helped me a lot. Also, I have added the skulls to the power plant and chained skulls to my bt army
I like your black Templar. You have color variation. You do you boo!! Astral claws!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!

I love the crusader box, bought the black templar combat patrol the other day and converting them into Dark Angels
You have fine taste, sir.
im working on my leviathan box and am getting ready to do the marine half as space wolves, cuz why not :D id love to see you do up some
I really like your videos, they are energetic, positive, and motivationnal to get rid of my pile of shame !

World Eaters please! Love to see your take on a classic red Berserker
You should try Tome Keepers or Exorcists!
This is very cool. Im now considering trying a wash for a black armor based dark angels successor chapter I have been thinking about.
I just got my first warhammer model and your probably the main reason i decided to get one so thanks
Enjoy!
If you were to make a homebrew chapter, what would you call it and how would you paint the Space Marines?
I’ve wanted to work on Space Wolves but I’d love to see how you would interpret them first!
How would you go about painting Blood Ravens without them looking like knock-off Blood Angels?
The most generous recruitment process 😂 "anyone can be a space racist! You, little boy! Do you hate aliens, witches, and anyone who doesn't look like you? Perfect! Welcome aboard!"
Jay understands that perfection is a moving target. I hope you do Legion of the Damned some day!
I really would love to have some of these for the Cloak/Tabard guys when building a Dark angel Intersession Kill team hahaha
As a Crimson Fist player, I'm glad more Sons of Dorn are getting their time in the spotlight.
you really make me repaint my black templar. such a recipe :)
Would be cool to see some pre chaos traitor marines
Although they are called *Black* Templars I feel like you did a great job att detailing the *Templar* aspect of this marine, great job!

Hey Jay love to see your take on Alpha Legion.
Been trying and retrying to paint some black Templars. I don’t like all the black NMM out there cause it just looks like silver. But this looks fantastic.
Stylistically the Black Templars are my favourite next to Dark Angels, but the actual painting was daunting - this method is what I'll try next time.
Those grey templars look great.
Jay your black Templar are better then every model I’ve painted even my Dante I spent 26 hours on …. Everyone that chirps your scheme can pound sand
To be fair I agree with you completely on the black paint thing. I would never use black as my final main colour for any figures, I'd always work in the darker end of greyscale for it. Black just isn't dynamic enough to be able to really paint it and keep it visually interesting at the same time!

Even in the 41st millennium, the subway still works, at least for the Blood Angels

I really wanna make my Soul Drinkers army but seeing the price of models it's ludicrous
Super dope Jay. I love your videos. 🤜🏼🤛🏻
looks great man like the color scheme, think you should do the Diroma you are thinking about.
