    Boise is most wanted by TV. San Diego is the #2 addition with Fresno, Colorado State, UNLV, and Air Force being the top 6. Beyond that it moves to AAC teams like Tulane and UTSA who the Pac-2 wants.

    I still believe that California & Stanford would come back; especially with the inevitable ACC implosion happening sooner rather than later. Not to mention that all the traveling back and forth is going to eat at the players and their funding thus they’re likely to lose more games in the process.
    I also believe 6 teams will definitely leave the Mountain West for the Pac-whatever by 2026; no question about it. With Oregon State & Washington State, 6 MWC schools, California & Stanford and possibly 2 other schools the Pac might be the 3rd best conference by 2030.
    What’s with all this love for UTSA? I didn’t even know they were even a school since they weren’t in NCAA 14 at the time.

    Why would any team leave a conference for a conference of two schools? I think WSU and OSU will end up in the ACC once FSU and Clemson leave the conference. If UNC decides to stay in the ACC, adding those two team will help with traveling with Stanford and Cal.

      The same reason everyone else leaves -- money. If they can make 2 or 3x the MWC TV deal, and have a much better chance at the G5 playoff spot each year, it's a no-brainer. OSU and WSU can rebuild the Pac and pick up the best/biggest brands from across the G5.

      I don't think they will go to the ACC. I don't think they would make enough money to justify going. If they go to the ACC, they will have to pay back all that money that the departing 10 schools gave them and they can't afford that. I think the only way they would leave the Pac-12 is if they got a full share offer from the Big 12.

    The price of admission to the FBS club is now $5,000,000, and 2 schools have paid it, Delaware and Missouri State. I believe that Kennesaw St. was the last school to get into the club for only $5,000. That's right in October 2023, the club added three zeroes to their entry fee, and in less than 9 months, two schools have agreed to pay it and many more have asked to pay it, but didn't have an engraved club invitation allowing them to pay the fee!
    Whether this trend continues is probably dependent on the practical effects of these lawsuits. The future is too uncertain to me, to be placing wagers, although rebuilding the Pac in the short run, might be bettable.

    Sorry for being late here. Been busy studying an online course.
    As for the PAC-2, I believe the most likely scenario is OrSU and WSU joining the MWC. They'll try to rebuild the PAC with various G5 schools, but I think they're not going to have enough time (and cooperation) to get it done.

  • @jeh58
    @jeh58 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I agree with Steve, I think some sort of rebuild/ merge with the MWC is the most likely, & what I would prefer. Some kind of major shift would have to happen for the B12 to take OSU & WSU. For the Beavers & WSU to go to the ACC I would think it would take around 20 million a year (media deal & CFP payout) for that to happen. Once FSU & Clemson leave the ACC CFP will drop drastically.
    Good show guys.

    When you get a chance could you consider doing you do some sort of article/podcast about how the payments for the House law suit will be paid if the PAC brings in MWC teams? Who will pay what & how? Will the former PAC12 pay into a PAC12 account an then to be paid to the House/NCAA account? If the PAC rebuilds, will the new teams pay their portion back into their former Conferences? Sounds like a big mess.

  • @danielmiller5
    @danielmiller5 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The PAC-2 have made it clear they have no interest in a MWC merger. They split up their sports for a reason. Wait and see is the best play. Best case scenario is Big 12. Worst case scenario is rebuilding with mostly MWC schools. Wazzu/OSU are more valuable to them than that conference is to Wazzu/OSU. They shouldn’t lock themselves in when there’s still so many realignment dominos to go

  • @thatcollegefootballguy
    @thatcollegefootballguy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    We agree that the best thing for everyone involved is to do a merger between the MWC and the Pac-12. But if they do merge all of the schools together, it will be under the Pac-12 name. If the Pac-12 dissolves before 2027, OSU and WSU have to pay back all of that money they got from the 10 departing schools and they can't afford that.
    On top of that, WSU President Kirk Schulz has basically dropped hints that they don't want their future conference to go any further east than Texas. I have said before that UTSA and North Texas are the top two schools to be considered for the new Pac-12. Have those 16 schools as your new Pac-12 and add Gonzaga for basketball. You're looking at $15 mil per year if you can get all that done.

    • @billl1127
      @billl1127 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree with what you suggest about the merger. The only thing I question is the $15 mil deal. I assume you mean that's the pay-out per team with a new TV deal. I just don't see it anything over $8 mil. Adding WSU and OSU to the MW won't quadruple the value of the TV deal.

    • @TheBigMountainPodcast
      @TheBigMountainPodcast  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great point about the dissolution prior to 2027.
      As time goes on, they will lose more and more leverage. They will have to make a decision at some point as to what is in their best interest for the long term.

      @@billl1127 OSU and WSU are each making $7 mil a year on their current deal with Fox and the CW. Add that to the MWC deal, which would go up in value. You also add UTSA, North Texas and Gonzaga since Hawaii is a football-only member. $12-15 mil is actually very reasonable.
