University of pugent sound exists and was nearly in the WCC if not for athletic council mutiny, wow, didn’t know that!

Never understood why Seattle wasn’t in the WCC.

I also think that maybe the Texas schools should join forces with the Lonestar conference from Division 2 and Central Oklahoma and others and form a D1 Texas league

I’m surprised they didn’t invite the University of Denver as well. Seems like it would be a good fit.

Denver is a hockey school, there’s no fit there from a sporting perspective

Exactly. If Denver showed any interest in basketball, I think they would've been the 10th team back in 2013. The WCC literally would've been a mini-Pac12 with the additions of the Salt Lake, Denver markets. The only difference being no presence in AZ.

I'll be honest I thought Cal Baptist would be in before Grand Canyon

I have a feeling Cal Baptist will probably join the WCC sooner rather than later. If/when the Utah schools land in the Big Sky *and* the Texas leftovers are merged into the Southland, the WAC will pretty much be dead. It just seems inevitable.

I’m surprised that Grand Canyon was allowed in because of its weak academics

I saw GCU's USNWR ranking and the Lopes look like outliers from that perspective. I thought a private institution would have stronger academics than that.

From what I've read, it was a package deal. WCC Commissioner Stu Jackson really had to sell a lot of the presidents on adding GCU for obvious reasons (academics, for-profit). But I believe many were in favor of Seattle. So, I think he only agreed to bring in Seattle if GCU was taken.
It's interesting because if I'm not mistake, Gonzaga has never been too keen on the idea of adding Seattle. And I honestly don't believe it has anything to do with Seattle but rather Washington due to recruiting battles over the years. Which I believe is why they stopped their annual series for a while.
Ultimately, this could wind up costing Jackson. If Gonzaga wasn't on board with the addition of Seattle and that causes Gonzaga to leave for say the MWC and GCU's red flags lead to sanctions, then Jackson may have just fired himself.

@@marcus813GCU has had quite the ride the last 2 decades. Its academic standing has alot to do with the the school's trustees selling the school to the California-based Significant Education, LLC back in 2004 as the school went nearly bankrupt. It was, if not one of, the first for-profit University in the US.
Since 2014, GCU has been fighting to return to its non-profit status but has been facing compliance and political hurdles, not including ASU refusing to schedule any athletic events against GCU, up until 2020. There's been a several lawsuits between GCU and the DoE and FTC regarding its status as a result.

@@zerocool1980Grand Canyon for profit status is not certain. The department of education says it’s for profit. The IRS and the state of Arizona says it non profit
