It seems to happen to me when I have a lot of gas. It's not the passing out that scares me--it's the feelings of doom that accompany these episodes. I literally feel like I'm dying.
I recently had an episode and I was coming out of the shower when I felt nauseous so I lied down then got back up and as I was getting dressed I felt like there was and ice cube in my head so I lied down again this time for like 20 minutes then I got back up and decided to tell my mum but as i was describing what I was feeling my head felt like it was literally on fire and my speech slurred I tried to talk but I couldn't like someone muted me with a remote then I lost my vision for 30 seconds and collapsed then my mum gave me food but I lost my appetite also whenever I try to explain to my local gp they think I am making it up or I am delusional it is very annoying and once it happened in school I have no friends so I told a teacher they said I am lying or it is just a headache but I know the difference between them they never let me go home it happened in pe once when we in a park we were running long distance I came first in the fastest time but then it started happening and I had no friends so on the bus I thought I was gonna die so tears came out of my eyes and I fainted but my teacher said I can't go home cause she doesn't believe me I am 15 now
Agreed! ITs the doom feeling that is awful! I had a few, not LOT of episodes, but last weekend had a really bad one, I never get to faint but the pre scenario is ...... dying.. My solution: I lay back totally plain back in a cold surface, or if im with someone i ask for ice or cold water and naked i toos it in my body, that makes the arthery or veins to restrain! Sorry for my bad spelling!
Adoptme_gamer4life I pass out to blood, I’ve passed out so many times in school, it’s embarrassing but you cant do anything about it. I’m 17 so I feel you
I have dealt with this...I have googled this "feeling" so many times trying to understand some kind or correlation between horrid gas pains or trapped wind lol and anxiety! I dont get anxious then after get gas, no it's the other way. Sometimes I get built up gas or tummy issues so bad that I get the shakes and sweats and panic and the whole 9 yards. Sometimes feeling like I could pass out or vomit. I feel like I'm dying every time it happens and get scared its serious.
@@brib8355 thank you for this because I swear something was seriously wrong with me. I have terrible anxiety and my blood pressure is normally low so I’m normally just cautious. I panic after my stomach starts hurting from my gastritis so I get the doom feeling and excessive worrying
Because of the fact that it truly feels like ur dying, these have been traumatic experiences for me. Videos like these and the comments make me feel so much better. The comment that mentioned the feeling of doom being the worst part, it absolutely is. I truly thought I was dying, so after u get over the physical effects u have to deal with the mental and emotional ones. This sucks. Happens to me with gas / bowel movements and it’s absolutely horrifying.
@@hearme4581 my worst fear is this, when anxiety hits n my heart starts to race , what happened after u came to? If u don’t mind me asking. I’m literally in bed atm lol preparing for impending doom lol
@@Jason1904 I think mines was pushed over the edge with vaping if your using any type of stimulate. Please stop and get on a cbd oil it can help with anxiety a lot. I use broad spectrum cbd it has less thc than full spectrum. After I came too my heart rate was low and people were standing around me. I went to the er and they said it was syncope.
Happened to me a few days ago. Started with vision gradually become patchy, then cold sweats, then nausea/discomfort, then blindness, then ringing in ears, then a sort of body paralysis/stiffness, and my eyes were wide open. Family thought I was having a seizure or, god forbid, dying.
Literally just got out of the ER with what they said was this. It started with a stomach ache like I was going to puke. I sat down and then about 4-5 minutes later my left arm went numb and that feeling traveled down through my whole body and once the numbness hit my feet my body immediately went stiff as a board like someone who is having a seizure and my speech slurred almost to the point where I couldn’t even talk. Lasted about 45 seconds to 1 minute. I thought I was having a stroke honestly but I’m 30 and healthy as an ox. I will say one of the scariest if not the scariest thing I’ve experienced.
The nauseatic sensation is what causes me a panic attack. It feels like I'm about to die and the world around me suddenly goes blurry. I can detect my episodes rather quickly even before starting to feel queazy, but what follows through (the anxiety) is the scariest part.
I experienced this for over 30 years. It started when I was pregnant with my daughter. And only happens when I'm having a loose stool bowel movement. I always know when it's coming on because my thighs feel very weak. Listen to his advice. I have broken my nose twice and fractured my eye socket due to passing out and falling on the floor trying to get to the bed. I went to every specialist I could think of. The last specialist that I went to was a gastroenterologist. He walked into the room and I told him what was happening and he immediately knew what it was. I was angry but happy at the same time because no one else knew and he was just so nonchalant and quickly knew what it was without even examining me. I was so elated that I knew all I had to do was to at least squeeze my legs while I was having the bowel movement and this would not happen. I haven't passed out in over four years now
This happens to me too. Especially if my stomach is upset, depending on how bad the situation, I faint. But I'm up after a few minutes and after bathroom business is done. But the onset is so horrendous!
Good grief! I've had this all my life since childhood and 57 years later, I'm just NOW finding out what it is! I've had attacks that got more prevalent during my 20's and 30's, during a staff meeting one time, during my sleep, during a movie, and on a cross-country trip in a bus. I've been on panic attack meds which helped. I was put on a different med which caused multiple attacks on a plane trip (7 in two hours). I've had a cardiologist explain I had a vasovagal condition but didn't give me any advice. When you said dehydrated, I realized it was exactly my problem. I can't count the number of times I've woken up with my dry tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, my eyes itchy, or a doctor telling me I am dangerously dehydrated and ordering me to drink a gallon of Gatorade and refilling it with water and drinking it asap. Thank you!
Always have some zero gatorade with you. Or even just a little bottle with some sugar and salt solution mixed into the water. Dehydration is the worst culprit for this. I've had this all my life as well. All my best to you, my dear!
I’ve had this all my life and I’m 58 now. Worst experience was when I bit my tongue bad at a restaurant. I felt the dizziness coming on and I tried to put my head down but it was too late. Next thing I remembered was waking up and staring at two paramedics looking down at me. It was embarrassing but the worst part was how much I scared my two young daughters. Had to take a trip in the ambulance to the ER
This happens to me most of the time when getting blood drawn, and when they put an IV in for surgery a couple months ago. So embarrassing and uncomfortable.
I had to get blood drawn just today, (I’m 16) And, I’ve always been fine with needles, giving blood, etc. But, ever since I had a bad experience with getting an IV for my wisdom teeth (just last year) needles, especially IV’s/giving blood always causes me to almost pass out/pass out, so I have to be embarrassed and always tell the doctors that I’m queasy 😂
@@dallantobler6144 same second time I donated blood, only donated half of the unit my blood pressure got low because I didn’t eat good enough and I walked alot. Now on my third time i was anxious about it so I couldn’t even last 10 seconds donating blood. I really want to donate.
Got my blood drawn today- got up to go to the bathroom because i was nauseas. Before i was able to make it to the bathroom door my eyesight went completely black and i was searching for the door knob- unfortunately before i was even able to turn the knob my legs gave out and my head hit a metal screen door, I fainted for the first time. My dad came running and sat me up. He said my face was pale and my lips turned a shade of purple. 3 nurses came rushing in and one took this stick, broke it and put it towards my nose. It smelled like alcohol but way stronger. I became fully aware of my surroundings after i smelled it. It was really weird and i hated the feeling before my legs gave out. I was sweating really bad and became dizzy. I'd say its the worst feeling i have ever experienced so far.
When this happens to me, I never go fully unconscious. I go to a half-coherent hell that feels like a trippy Stanley Kubrick movie and there is no escape. If you've ever had serious drugs without knowing (laced/bad batch) it comes close to the experience. I met one lab tech who was an Air Force medic, he promised me that I wouldn't pass out, and he was right. Whatever he did, no other tech has achieved. I felt the pinch of the needle, and he asked me a few questions, and that was it. I started having these issues in the Marines, and it's only gotten worse.
I've had this since I had a viral fever when I was about 2 years old. It's pretty horrible. It makes me feel as if I'm being pulled into myself, the horrible ringing in the ears, and the feeling in my entire body is just horrible. It's not a normal fainting feeling.
Your description of the horrors that are the pre syncope symptoms is the most spot on interpretation I've ever heard. A slow-motion, half coherent, panic filled struggle to stay alive in that moment.
@@vipercrb5622 It's a terrifying feeling that doesn't compare to anything else. I've had out of body experiences, been put to sleep with narcotics from kidney stone pain, and have been choked out in martial arts training. The feeling of the mind struggling to stay present in the consciousness is difficult to put to words. One time I heard the lab tech ask a question and it repeated in my mind 5 or 6 times and became slower and slower. I also feel as if I step backwards into 3rd person and watch my life in front of my eyes that I cannot control. It's always rough.
Yesterday I was shadowing a PA at my mom’s work, and after watching them give a couple of injections I almost passed out. (My vision and hearing were almost entirely gone in seconds). The exact same thing happened to me when I got my second Pfizer vaccination. I’ve got to get over it man, I want to be a medical professional
I just wanted to come on here for the people here worried about fainting, I have fainted when getting a shot for my entire life, I found this video because I fainted getting a shot a few weeks ago and have been terrified of getting another shot today. I did this applied tension technique while getting a shot today and I did not faint. It WORKS. Drink lots of water, I like to have a few peppermint candies (sugar helps keep blood pressure up) or a gingerale or other type of sugary soda and do this technique. It REALLY WORKS. ❤️
This usually happens when I throw up, I pass out, body shakes, looks like a seizure. Started in my early 30s. Since figuring out what it was, I try avoiding throwing up. I’ve also found it helpful to try and breath deeply to keep from passing out. It’s worked a couple of times now. I’m going to try and remember this next time it happens. Thank you.

My wife had this She sat on the floor instead of lying. We called the ambulance and.then took her to the hospital. Hospital said it was a heart failure. We lost her.
She died from a blood draw or am I misunderstanding? I had a vasovagal episode that was miserable a few minutes ago after a blood draw. First time ever.
I can’t believe there is a clinic. I have been having convulsive Syncope for years. Had my drivers license taken away for epilepsy because I was misdiagnosed. My Tilt table test showed my heart rate at 35 my blood pressure 66/26 I pass out while sitting and laying down. There is no rhyme or reason to why I pass out.
I’ve had two instances of this happening to me in the last 4 months. Both times I was at the gym lifting weights and about a minute after my set I felt symptoms. Very scary felt like I was dying. Honestly almost called 911 for a split second. I hope I can get ahead of this and this doesn’t keep happening. Going to see my doctor right away.
My daughter passed out and had a seizure 2weeks ago, i took her to the ER and the doctors diagnosed her with this, ive been doing so much research since. I'm waiting on the child neurologist to call me back to set up an appointment, one of the scariest things I've ever seen happen to a child. Thank you for the information. Thank you for sharing.
I had an attack while deploying to Afghanistan. The plane was warm, crowded and dark. I have a pacemaker now but still feel very bad at times, mainly while having a bowel movement. It literally feels like you are dying.
I was diagnosed with VVS in 2020. The first time I fainted was 3 months after my open-heart surgery. Of course, my family feared the worst, but I came to a few seconds, but my BP was abnormal low, the EMS people showed up, and I was so confused. Now I know my triggers, and they are all of what you described, I am so happy I found this. I will certainly use the muscle exercise.
I've had this problem since a child and never received an explanation or diagnosis. I'm 37 now and almost fainted driving home after a blood draw today. I was totally fine during the process and didnt feel it coming on until i was a block from my driveway. It makes sense because after running into the house (where I assumed I would pass out) I was fine. It's because I got my heart rate up and used my leg muscles
I seem to get this commonly with blood draws. Had it happen this morning, I remember the needle stick and hearing her switch out vials, she seemed to pick up that I wasn't feeling the best. Noted my color was kind of leaving my head. What possessed me was pretty good tinnitus, that feeling of doom, and subconsciousness. I could hear her and the other lady saying my name but it was like I was underwater. Soon enough, my senses began returning, and the cold wet towels they'd employed felt very nice. They have a laying room which I will definitely request next time.
I experienced this for the first time as a 17 year old and my God I literally thought it was my last day. I full on sprinted for the bus on my way to college without any breakfast and I felt so trapped on the bus, the symptoms are slow settling and incredibly scary especially when u don't pass out, u experience everything.
Toilet seat syncope Vasomotor syncope must effect a fall into the horizontal position to allow for a rapid recovery. Some unfortunate patients are unable to fall during syncope because they happen to be alone sitting on a toilet seat situated in a narrow corner. I have seen or heard of several old people who had been found dead in that sitting position. Toilet room designers should be strictly reminded to leave ample space on either side of the toilet seats to allow syncope sufferers to fall and recover.
I got an episode of vasovagal syncope this morning while having my blood drawn for a test. I get extremely nauseous almost as if my stomach was about to burst in pain, completely soaked in sweat, fuzzy ringing in my ears, and my eyes almost always see “tv static” although i never lose consciousness completely, i can still talk to myself in my head. As a solution, I found that lifting my legs up high makes me regain my senses almost immediately.
I have had these 8 to 10 times per year all of my adult life… It’s horrible that other guy wasn’t exaggerating when he said “I felt like I was going to die.” I have discovered that if I can get my entire head and scalp under cold running water and hold it there for maybe 15 to 30 seconds, I can stop one of these episodes dead in its tracks and initiate its rapid and total reversal. Next time you get one you might try that. If I can’t get my head under running water, a towel soaked in ice water slathered all over my head is almost as effective. My working theory is: cold equals localized peripheral vasoconstriction, which equals localized peripheral (NOT SYSTEMIC) blood pressure boost which results in increased blood supply to the brain, a precisely targeted, short term, elimination of the root cause of the episode; but that’s just my layman’s homegrown explanation that works for me. … I have to add THIS; and I apologize if it sounds harsh, but, I state here that the preceding information is intended for educational purposes only. I am NOT a medical professional, and anything that anyone does as a result of reading this, does so at their own risk, especially in light of the following statement: If a person is running around with a hyper-inflated, thin-walled aneurysm in their brain, something as seemingly innocent as the exercise of my hillbilly cardiology procedure here could conceivably cause a rupture, the very definition of a stroke and thus the tragic end of them. There, was that clear enough? Now no one can say that I did not articulate the self-imposed and self-undertaken risk involved in such self-administered remedies. M-kay? Good luck!
I totally understand your situation. I have done my blood test today and I suddenly fainted right after they took sample. I know I wasn't afraid at all but still I felt like I'm dying.😂
When I took my blood test, I warned the doctors, and I made sure to look away and think of other things to avoid passing out. However when my blood started being drawn, it was like an internal feeling of “oh sh!t” and my mind started getting fuzzy (like your tv static analogy) and my vision was getting distorted and awkward. I didn’t know what was happening and then I can only remember being in a state of just darkness and my whole body tensing and shaking (not violently). I woke up and I looked around and everyone around me was pinning me down with people in the waiting room staring at me. Next time I will definitely tell them to lay me down in the chair.
His suggestions are excellent. One that he mentions briefly is to hydrate. I notice these episodes happen more frequently whenever I have not ensured proper hydration. Anything that causes dehydration, including use of caffeine and alcohol, or several days of not drinking enough water, seems to be a trigger. Then it takes a day or so of proper hydration to completely clear up. I'm sure everyone is different but try hydrating. Keep track of it to ensure you are getting enough water. Might help.
I had my first episode last Friday after having diarrhea all morning from stomach virus. Within 30 seconds I felt pins and needles on both of my arms and then traveling to the top of my head. Got very warm and was drenched in sweat quickly. I felt nauseated and doomed. I was sitting in the toilet when this happened. I called 911 and after describing what was happening the firefighter on the phone knew exactly what was happening. A vasovagal response. I didn't not pass out. I felt better while I was on the phone and eventually the episode passed. Yes, I thought I was going to die. Apparently my sister also experiences this when she has digestive issues. I also have paroxysmal AFib and not even an episode of that was as scary as the vasovagal response. Interestingly enough I know for a fact my AFIb is triggered when I have excessive gas and also have not slept or rested enough prior to the episode. Our tummies are the root of these issues. Vasovagal nerve is too sensitive on some of us.
I got my blood drawn at school yesterday, about an hour later I feel like I'm gooma throw up. I walk to the bathroom, I'm fine so I walk back and sit down in my chair, as soon as I sit down I feel like I'm goona die, I walk right out of the room and my hearing is gone and so is my vision too by this point and that's when my teacher forces me down and the blood drive people come and have me get on my back and stuff, I felt like I was goona die. Scariest thing that's ever happened too me
im in high school rn, and when my history teacher starting talking abt torture methods or whatnot I started feeling lightheaded, panicked, froze up, my hearing turned to just ringing , I couldn’t see, and then I collapsed and busted my face on the floor. Then, a month later he started talking about foot binding in ancient China, (ew), I realized I was going to faint again and had to walk out of the class and lay down in the hallway 😭. The rest of the year I was so afraid that today was going to be the day he talked abt something else gory and I would collapse and embarrass myself again (PS I loved my history teacher). It’s been a while since but anytime someone even brings up something like that I have to dash or else I know ima faint 😭
Thanks for sharing this video. I had VVS just recently and fell, hitting the toilet bowl rim. Had a bad laceration requiring 10 odd stitches. Fortunately, there were no further injuries to the brain etc. I would recommend all to take something light like a mug of hot cocoa before bedtime as this will rehydrate your system. Also, count up to 10 before sitting up from bed especially so in the middle of the night before going to the toilet. To you reading this, do take care and take these preventive measures.
I'm anemic (low oxygen) and if I get triggered, I immediately pass out. It has happened to me so many times. The worst is when they can never find my veins to draw blood and have to poke me really deep or multiple times. 😬
I have had vvs for years and no doctor here in Namibia could tell me why I was fainting several times a day. It took me reading up, guessing and eliminating certain causes to finally figure it out. I wanted some sort of official diagnosis, but the doctors I dealt with here in Namibia kept dismissing it, but also never got to the bottom of it. My triggers were hot temperatures, crowds, loud noises, sudden frights, standing for long periods, holding my urine in for long, bright light, etc. It was so obvious. I learned to read my body and would sit down whenever I felt an attack coming. Also I always had to tell at least one person on how to handle the situation if I ever fainted. Lifting me up would make my body shake, I had to lie down until I felt well enough to get up. It has been a long journey. Idk if the onset could have been catagorized as "acute", but it was bad during the first year and eventually became less intense and less frequent as the years passed by. Anyways, all that was said in this video I can relate with. I just wish I'd known all this so many years ago. Nothing worse than thinking youve got a terminal illness or something 😅
I passed out at work today and im worried its going to happen again. It was because i was standing for a long time. It has happened more than once before so I’m trying to figure out how to prevent it before it happens again. Great video!
I’m a grocery cashier. This has happened to me at work a couple of times. The first time it happened to me was because one of my coworkers got a tattoo. I lost my balance and I couldn’t control anything and I hit my head on the floor. Thankfully not so hard. My customer yelled “HE’S DOWN!!” and I was put in a chair and dragged away. The second time was because someone was wearing eye contacts that I can tell distorted the color of her eyes. Before I could lose my balance I went straight to the manager’s office and I laid down on the floor and I got over it quickly and went back to work 10 minutes later. It’s the worst feeling in the world when it happens because I lose control over my body and I have no sense of direction or anything. It’s also very embarrassing because it does create a scene.
I had my worst attack when trying to out in contact lenses. It makes me so pissed off bc I really want to wear them. So what I plan on doing is slowing building up tolerance. I’ve managed to do it with shots so I’m trying with contact lenses. I’m going to have backup just in case I pass out
Thank you for this video, I have been searching for answers for my young son and his fainting feeling spells. You literally spoke on exact situations that are happening more often almost daily now. Restaurant, church, school, doctor appt.
This has happened to me since middle/high school. The other day I was standing for a couple minutes for a girl to cut the end of my hair. Started feeling that weird feeling I get before and episode and let her know I needed to sit. I almost didn’t make it. Once I got to the chair I was getting hotter and more uneasy feeling. I could feel my vision going away and I was fighting it by trying to breathe through. Sometimes I can recover but apparently not this time. I fainted in the chair for a couple seconds and when I came back to, I started sweating excessively and getting increasingly more uneasy feeling inside. I had to lay on the floor in the middle of the hair salon. Luckily it was just me and one hair stylist but it’s still mortifying. It feels like you’re literally going to die. I’m aware that it’s harmless in most cases but I can’t help but feel terrified. And then the anxiety of having an episode and accidentally triggering it makes it even more prevalent lol . WHO INVENTED THIS.
I know, your story is my nightmare lol this is terrible lol im start practicing this lower body approach more just did it earlier 10min ago seem like im normal again. I can breathe without thinking about breathing 😮💨 lol
For some reason I've gone 21 years of my life without this happening, but just recently it happened during a blood draw and hasn't stopped during triggering situations since. So frustrating.
Same here, passed out right after getting the vaccine. First time I stood up immediately after getting the shot, so I passed out after a minute or so; second time I knew it was likely gonna happen, so I lay down and waited for the symptoms to go away, heart rate and blood pressured dropped severely but still managed to remain awake somehow. It took me about 10/15 minutes to be able to stand up again.
Same. Never happened until I got a blood draw for lab work for a surgery few years ago, now I’ve had several more episode over these past years. Had one yesterday, that’s why I am on this video.
Almost every time I have to give blood in a medical situation, I faint hard. Cold sweat all over my body shaking, etc. A brilliant nurse once laid an ice pack on my chest and it completely worked to prevent me from fainting! But these tips I'll try for next time
I want to share my experience, hopefully someone reading this know they are not alone. Sometimes my tummyache will get very bad like i know its gonna be a diarhea, so i will proceed to use the bathroom, however i will be feeling faint-ish, like i needed to lie down. But the diarhea is coming, and i know i have to purge as its the pain causing the faint feeling, but what do i do first, purge first or lie down first? This is when the feeling of dying is here. I will struggle to stay sitted on the toilet but at the same time leaning my head forward to keep me not fainting, but it is never good enough, the feeling of dying is very intense, i cant get air, i desperately neded to lie down but the purging is just starting. So what i would do if i could, is i purge, then i wash all in 5 seconds, then crouch on the bathroom floor head down for a few seconds until the next purge has to happen, and this short window period of purge and crouch has to happen quickly because i had to fulfil both almost at the same time. This will repeat until i finish purging and the pain will stop, in turn the faint feeling will ease. But i will continue laying on the floor with cold sweat all over my head and body, trying to regain strength, usually half an hour or so. I have asked many doctors what this is all about. No doc ever believe me and say i may need to see a psychiatrist. It angers me because they think its all self inflicted mentally. There was a medic i spoke to who works in ambulance service and he was the one who mentioned vasovagel nerve and that was the only clue i got, he further explained that when the body experience pain or trauma, blood flows to that area to kind of help it by bring oxygen or something, and in turn it takes away oxygen from most other parts of body hence the fainting feeling. And even when i asked another doc about it or researched on this, its always about fainting from seeing blood but never about tummy pain or bad diarhea my first experience was when i was 17, now im 45 and it still happens to me, i am scared when the next episode would be. Would i die in the bathroom..
Like the Doctor said, it's usually a collection of circumstances that brings on an episode. Stopping too quickly after exertion, having an adrenaline spike with no increased physical activity and overheating. Depending on the circumstances I may sit down, deep breathe and do a deep relax or I may do something to keep my heart rate up so that my pressure doesn't drop too suddenly. I do believe that maintaining good physical conditioning keeps it from being worse than it is. I'm usually able to fend off an episode when I feel the symptoms coming. Sometimes I may get through a year or two without experiencing one. It's not from over-exertion alone or elevated or lowered blood pressure alone. It's always a confluence of external activity and internal state (psychosomatic) that contributes to the likelihood of an episode.

I get this most often through straining bowel movements, and a handful of times through intense workouts. I'm glad I can now recognize it coming on and can lay myself down in a safe place before my body collapses.
Same here re the straining or if I have diarrhea. Like clockwork. I know to lie down but last time I crossed my arms across my chest and vigorously rubbed my upper arms. That really helped and I was able to stave it off.
@@sheilathailand1903I have the exact same thing it's ALWAYS when Im in the bathroom or sometimes when I wake up giving be severe unbearable pain in my stomach, do you know anything more about it you can tell me?
I’ve blacked out 3 times in the last two years. The most recent was on New Years Eve right after midnight. But all three times I remember just feeing lightheaded and warm. Then I wake up to someone over me trying to see if I’m okay. My first initial reaction everytime is to reach for my ears and try to remove what I believe to be headphones which is just my ears ringing from hitting the floor. Literally the scariest feeling I’ve ever experienced. Worst part about it is the look on your love ones face who has no idea what just happened and feeing embarrassed because you yourself don’t even know what just happened.
I experienced this for the first time, I was driving- everything was becoming blurry and it felt like I wasn't going to be able to stay awake, I pulled over to the side of the road as quickly as possible to park the car (afraid that if I hadn't, I would have lost control of the vehicle) I was extremely fortunate I used whatever consciousness I had left to be able to pull over; my sister was in the car and told me that after I pulled over- I became unconscious for about 10 minutes, convulsing and gasping for air or snoring as if I were asleep- I was unconscious and have zero memory of the 10 minutes I was gone- apparently my eyes were wide open the entire time and my sister tried to shake my body to wake up- but like I said I have zero memory of this. I remember when I regained consciousness I felt as though nothing had happened/no time was missing/and my memory began where it was left off (the moment I parked). It scares me to think that my eyes were open the entire time yet I have zero memory of being present in the moment. The cause (I'm speculating) was due to combination dehydration, the hot stagnant air in the car and the lack of sleep I've received prior to leaving the house for a quick errand. I hope it never happens again, especially while I'm driving.
Heat will expand your blood vessels(i think) and dehydration will lower your blood volume - combine that with lack of sleep and you're body is gonna have a hard time with regulating blood pressure so you prob right. Remember to talk to your doctor just in case cause u never know
My last episode, I was told my eyes were open, as well. I don’t remember how long I was out but it felt like no time, but a long time (if that makes sense). I hate this condition!
I had the same thing happen but with a horrible feeling of dread that started just as it happened and lasted for a while after. I think its dehydration but will find out about my EEG from a neurologist tomorrow. Either that or it's my heart rate, it is very low.
I had my blood drawn today and it was the worst thing ever , I was shaking profusely mostly the arm with the needle inside , and I definitely cried a lot , I haven’t had it done in so long so I didn’t think it would hurt but I almost fainted because they had to have 4 full tubes .
This is very common. When I used to get my blood drawn the same thing would happen and I think all the time, just thinking about it, lol one thing that has helped me is called a butterfly. It’s a special tiny tube they used to with draw the blood it looks like a crazy straw. The difference between that and a regular syringe is the blood comes out super small amounts at a time so you don’t even feel the blood coming out of your system.... you have to ask when you go to the blood draw place to please use a butterfly, otherwise they won’t do it. I learned this from a nurse.
I had an accident at my work place that caused me to get vasovagal. I had my hand on a steel gauge that had a spring on it. I inadvertently triggered the spring into my left thumb. Mind you, it was an accident. I started to get dizzy, and started to sweat profusely. At the hospital, they told me it was a vasovagal reaction that sent a shock wave into my brain. I've never fainted at the sight of blood, but I have a bro-in-law that does.
i had my blood drawn a week ago and after that happened i immediately felt like i was going to faint. i didn't faint but i threw up. right after i threw up i felt much better. it was so weird that never happened before and i hadn't thrown up in 7 or 8 years
Had this happen to me today after I had an I.V put in. Never had an issue with needles at all, the scariest part was that I had a seizure when I passed out, never felt anything like that before
Same thing happened to me the first time my blood was drawn for lab work. Passed out and had a seizure. I remember dreaming of a black, misty, rotating pyramid before walking up to nurses all around me.
This guy is so nice! He seems so calm and professional. I am getting my second show of the covid vaccine tomorrow. I passed out for the first one, and pass out with most other shots too. This reassured me that I will be okay and try to control it.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I got my first covid vaccine today and nearly passed out as I was leaving. I had to sit down on the floor in the middle of Walmart. So embarrassing.
@@happynewmom I passed out and started shaking while I was out so it looked like a seizure in the middle of a Walmart after the covid shot, super embarrassing. I never had a problem with needles before but i think I developed a ptsd from it bevause now I pass out in any anxious situation
I passed out multiple times in my life but the most dangerous one was my most recent episode during my physical when they took my blood pressure. They took my blood pressure and then I felt my blood coursing through my arm. Blood is one of my triggers. I started overthinking and my anxiety built up. I felt my legs getting heavy and my mind going blank and I freaked out. I asked to go to the bathroom and right there I passed out sitting upright on the metal bench. I fell off the bench unconscious multiple feet off the concrete ground. My knees slammed into the ground first (thank god) and then my head. All the doctors were freaking out (because they probably weren’t trained for this) and they all rushed to my aid. My doctor said if my knees didn’t hit the ground first, my head would smashed onto the ground. My knees were in horrible pain the next few days it felt like they were both broken and I had to walk with a cane the next few days. I was a tough 15 year old but walking out of that hospital was suffering and held a lot of crying and tears back. After a few days it healed and got back to normal so it wasn’t broken, just super banged up. I could’ve died because of this syncope I have. My tip to all of you reading this is to let the people around you know when you feel something happen and to immediately act. It could be a matter of life or death. If I didn’t hesitate and I just laid on the ground, I could’ve prevented it from happening. If you feel a trigger happen in the car for example, pull over or slow down to lower risk of injury. I haven’t tried the coping mechanism in this video yet because I just saw it, but I hope it works. I’ve probably passed out ~7-8 times in my life from blood triggers or the shock factor of a loved one passing. I’m 16 now.
It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. It came on quite suddenly. I hit my solar plexus on the back of a chair when I went down and ended up with a torn liver. The pain was excruciating. I’m so scared of everything now.
Anyone else experience a seizure like shaking while passed out? Me and my doctors cant quite put our finger on it but think this is the sort of thing that's going on when my blood is drawn.
i’ve been told I have involuntary twitching when I pass out and that it looks like a seizure sometimes. i don’t think it’s super common but it can happen when the brain is deprived of blood or oxygen for a short amount of time
@@mymfmelody My instances have been described as borderline seizures in the past instances with it being more violent than just twitching. We are now also looking into it being PTSD related as I was hospitalized with meningitis when I was 10 years old for almost a month and nearly didn't make it out. which consisted of 5 spinal taps, shots, IV's, feeding tubes, and blood draws. Not totally sure this is related but I was wondering if anyone else experiencing the shaking while passed out from a blood draw or shot might have also had a bad experience or past trauma that would also make you believe that it could possibly be a PTSD related thing?
There is a condition called reflex anoxic seizures. It involves you fainting and your body trying to redistribute the blood around your body by contracting and relaxing your muscles. This can appear like an epileptic seizure but it isn't. Mention it to your doctor and research it a bit further.
I just got blood work done today and I know that I'm already terrified of blood (especially blood leaving my body), but I thought I was in the clear when it was over. All of a sudden my vision started to go out, and I got warm, and my ears were ringing and I experienced somewhat of a panic attack because I didn't want to loose consciousness, plus it felt as if I was dying in a way. (Though I suffer from a lot of panic attacks so I've learned to work through that feeling better). I was just so surprised at myself because I really thought I was in the clear 😂 The nurse kept asking me to repeat my name and I probably sounded drunk. So glad I know what this is now because I feel like it's been getting worse with age.
I have this and I passed out while driving my truck this weekend...totaled my truck but was ok. I had my 7 year old son was in the car and thank God we were both ok, but I've never been so scared in my entire life. I had one small cough that made me pass out. It keeps happening more often and I'm absolutely desperate to cure it. I could've hurt my son who is my whole world.
I wasn't like this til i was 19, it only happened twice, first when i had my nails done and the manicurist cut my finger, second was when i accidentally cut my own finger with a knife and for me its the worst thing, i dont want this especially when i like to be alone ad no one is around to help me. So thank you for this
It happens to me when driving. It started a few weeks ago when after I dozed off while on the freeway. Instantly after waking up, I started to black out. Luckily, I was able to pull over. I thought I was having a stroke, so I called 911.
I faint when I see or have conversations about blood and stuff so when I've tried this in the past the thought of what goes on in stopping me fainting makes me feels ill again
I think that maybe this is my case. It has happened to me since I was a teen. It happens to me when a situation feels totally hopeless and lost, like the world falls apart around me. It is emotionally based. Blood stops flowing up to my brain, my body temperature lowers, I get a headache. I faint but I don't lose consciousness. I need to lie down and resto until it goes away.
I have fainted from panic attacks several times, they always say your blood pressure goes up and that "fight or flight" wouldnt allow you to pass out but my blood pressure drops instead. I also dont hyperventilate usually, its more like everything slows down...except my mind ugh. I feel very alone when it comes to my anxiety because the info out there doesnt seem to apply to me and I dont feel like I have the "normal" attacks they always tell you about and how your gonna be fine and deep breaths will help lol. They say it helps to remember that a panic attack cant hurt you....well that's redundant to me if I can pass out 🤷♀️I have no triggers either so I dont know what to do anymore. Sometimes I think I have some vasovagal issues that are triggered by the anxiety attacks or maybe its even vice versa but doctors all say I'm fine. Standard blood tests dont show anything. I would like the understand wtf is going on because I want my life back.
I go through the exact same thing. It’s happened to me twice this year. Both after traumatic events that trigger my anxiety. I’ve seen 4 doctors after these episodes and they all say that I’m perfectly healthy. I understand how you feel and you’re not alone. We will overcome this.
From my childhood to now I fainted atleast 15 times. I have no fear of blood. But fainting is involuntary for me. Injection, blood test, Injured person, .. are the reasons. It's very difficult feeling while fainting, I feel like soul out of body. Thank you sir I will try these tips at next time.
Hello guys well I am new to this issue I recently passed out after working. I just felt hot all of a sudden and then I walked out of my room and passed out and went to the er and almost passed out again. Also now it feels like I have massive brain fog or I just feel dizzy or lightheaded, it’s not like I cannot speak coherently or hear good but it just feels like something is off. So praying for everyone in the comment section 🙏🏽❤️
I can get blood drawn all day, but as soon as you give me an intramuscular shot, I pass out without warning. Just happened with my first Moderna vaccine shot. Now I'm dreading the follow up.
Im 18 and this happened to me so many times , i tried to tell my parents, but they don't believe me and said I'm to week and scare too much, that's why it happened . I'm not week ! In my case Whenever i got hit on my ankle or elbow at a specific point, i passout and came to normal after some time , it feels like your soul has left your body and you are in pastlife and it feels so real and i remember what i saw in uncontiousness and after getting normal i got a red bruise vertical and in center on my forehead every time . They'd never understand how it feels , so traumatising 😢 .
The worst part for me is coming out of it. Waking up and not even being able to tell who you are. Like, your brain literally can't keep up with the info given. And then you try desperately to understand what you're seeing and hearing around you and it's all just so scary.
This usually happens to me whenever I see some blood, needle peirce, someone who is in pain, Iodine smell etc.. Interestingly I want to become a doctor and I am aware that It's going to be challenging for me to cope with my tendencies of vasovagal syncope. I am ready for it. Thank you doctor for this information.
This has been the most helpful video for me! Thank you so much! I have been dealing with what I understand now is situational syncope my whole life. I get it during blood draws, gory stories or movies, and more recently now at the gym when doing up/down/up motions like deadlifts. I’m going to practice the clenching/squeezing tips you provided! ❤
What would you recommend for people who have exercise induced vasovagal syncope? I have fainted several times in the gym and twice while hiking. I can always feel a fainting spell coming on when my heart rate gets too high, or if my breathing gets too shallow. I want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but I'm too scared to work out because of my fainting spells.
This always happens whenever I get my blood drawn or I’m getting an IV put in me. My heart rate always drops, then I start feeling faint and nauseous like I’m going to throw up, and then my vision starts going dark. Usually I don’t completely pass out but I get pretty close. It’s honestly one of the worst feelings ever. It makes me feel like I’m about to die. Needles are the only thing that triggers it for me
I got eating and drinking syncope. I have fallen over probably 6 or 8 times. The first time at a restaurant and they called an ambulance cuz I was out for a long time. They didn't take me to the hospital cuz I didn't have insurance but my friend had to drive me home. I can fall over from food or drinks, but I have learned the feelings and I slow myself down enough to stay awake. I told my wife sometime I won't be coming back from this cuz I think it is like dying.
I was in the train and I felt very lightheaded and felt like I was about to die , I woke up with people all around me and I had urinated myself , it was so embarrassing :(
Sorry to you Patsy, but do not beat yourself up. It can happen to all of us, you just move on forward with your life and make that experience make you stornger. xx
I had this happen this morning when going in for a Cardiac CT. When they gave me the drugs to drop my blood pressure and put the IV in I just got really ill feeling and sick and barely kept from passing out.
Had an attack today. Had a painful shot at the drs office. Worst pain ive felt. Felt like my insides were burning. Stood up and the nurse goes lay down right now. I turned white, had an instant body sweat and felt scared. On the way home i had it too. Thx god my wife drove me. I panicked and jumped in the back seat like a kid and was terrified. Feels as if you're dying.
This started happening to me as an adult when i would do work that required me to bend down and straighten up, especially after eating a meal. I get hot, nauseous, and then vision starts leaving. The first time it happened, i was picking up and handing off rocks for a retention pond. Years later, it happened again when i was on a roof removing shingles. That time was scary. My doctor was no help. I searched the internet for years before finding this answer. Knowing definitely helps, but I wish there was a cure.
Today I went to the doctor for a blood test. I don’t easily faint just from seeing blood or anything like that. After the doctor took my blood, I went to the waiting and waited, I felt distress on my body like a my body is just rotating right and left. I went to reception to tell them “I’m gonna need a fresh air” (FYI i was wearing mask so it would’t help unless I went out). Next thing I know is that I slowly slowly lose my vision gray black and I fall down.
Today is the second time in my life I fainted seconds after diarrhea. I literally feel losing control of my body, seeing all white, and just thinking how to get out of the bathroom so my family will hear when I faint and help me. It's such a scary feeling, if anyone knows any way to prevent this, maybe some way to quickly hydrate while on the toilet seat, please share.
Hi, one thing you can try is to keep a cup of electrolytes near the toilet. The one I use is Emergen-C Vitamin Drink Mix. This saved me a couple times. Take care.
Problem is when you start feeling light, it's very hard to tense your body
Because of the fact that it truly feels like ur dying, these have been traumatic experiences for me. Videos like these and the comments make me feel so much better. The comment that mentioned the feeling of doom being the worst part, it absolutely is. I truly thought I was dying, so after u get over the physical effects u have to deal with the mental and emotional ones. This sucks. Happens to me with gas / bowel movements and it’s absolutely horrifying.
Now u know what to do when you have gas or a BM😊
Anxiety and worry or not feeling "safe" is what usually brings this on for me. This was a very helpful video, thank you!

Me too!!
This just happened to me for the first time and it’s was triggered by anxiety
@@hearme4581 my worst fear is this, when anxiety hits n my heart starts to race , what happened after u came to? If u don’t mind me asking. I’m literally in bed atm lol preparing for impending doom lol

Thank you for the insight and so informative. Very appreciative 👍🏼
That’s what happens to me ! I haven’t passed out (tho I was very close)
Exactly what has happened to me since I was a kid. Like he said, best thing to do is to sit down. Best of luck!
Same thing has been happening to me and I really dont feel like it’s normal but idk

Wow how scary
He is teaching us what they teach pilots to avoid them fainting in G force! He is good.
Absolutely. Good catch.
Glad you liked it!
Hick maneuver I believe
The nauseatic sensation is what causes me a panic attack. It feels like I'm about to die and the world around me suddenly goes blurry. I can detect my episodes rather quickly even before starting to feel queazy, but what follows through (the anxiety) is the scariest part.
I don't like the feeling of I have no control and yeah I feel sick when it happens
I haven't passed out in over four years now
Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your experience with us. We're happy to hear that you're feeling better now! Have a good day!
Pls share your experiences now and share the treatment me also bcs I have facing same problem during exercise pls
This happens to me too. Especially if my stomach is upset, depending on how bad the situation, I faint. But I'm up after a few minutes and after bathroom business is done. But the onset is so horrendous!
just wondering how you manage to squeeze your legs while having a bowel movement? thank you
@@lorikgian hahaaaa!! 🤣 You gotta put your legs up on the tub or wall. Thanks for the laugh.
I have general anxiety disorder and experience Vasovagal syncope during blood draws sometimes. Just lying down makes all the difference
I feel this way every time I have to make a blood examination. For this reason I need to have a "chaperone" to help me not faint on the way home

I'm in a similar boat. I get caught between consciousness and unconsciousness. Fucking terrible. Feels like you're trapped under water.
I've had this since I had a viral fever when I was about 2 years old. It's pretty horrible. It makes me feel as if I'm being pulled into myself, the horrible ringing in the ears, and the feeling in my entire body is just horrible. It's not a normal fainting feeling.
Omg that’s exactly how I describe my experience: “half coherent and drugged”.
Salt is needed, good sea salt with minerals
This usually happens when I throw up, I pass out, body shakes, looks like a seizure. Started in my early 30s. Since figuring out what it was, I try avoiding throwing up. I’ve also found it helpful to try and breath deeply to keep from passing out. It’s worked a couple of times now. I’m going to try and remember this next time it happens. Thank you.

I used to faint when I felt sick
My wife had this
She sat on the floor instead of lying. We called the ambulance and.then took her to the hospital. Hospital said it was a heart failure. We lost her.
My condolences
I’m so sorry for your loss 🤍
I’m so sorry foe your loss I have this two weeks ago and make it into the hospital just in time 😞
She died from a blood draw or am I misunderstanding? I had a vasovagal episode that was miserable a few minutes ago after a blood draw. First time ever.
I'm sorry for your loss 😢🙏🏾
I can’t believe there is a clinic. I have been having convulsive Syncope for years. Had my drivers license taken away for epilepsy because I was misdiagnosed. My Tilt table test showed my heart rate at 35 my blood pressure 66/26
I pass out while sitting and laying down.
Thank you for sharing.
what solution did they provide? for my mom they suggested pacemaker and she refused so we’re looking for other solutions
Toilet seat syncope
Vasomotor syncope must effect a fall into the horizontal position to allow for a rapid recovery.

Same happened to me today
Same happened to me few days ago
His suggestions are excellent. One that he mentions briefly is to hydrate. I notice these episodes happen more frequently whenever I have not ensured proper hydration. Anything that causes dehydration, including use of caffeine and alcohol, or several days of not drinking enough water, seems to be a trigger. Then it takes a day or so of proper hydration to completely clear up. I'm sure everyone is different but try hydrating. Keep track of it to ensure you are getting enough water. Might help.
Was washing dishes and cut my finger on a broken glass. Ran to the doctors and fainted in the reception room lol.
Hi, hope you're doing fine now! Have a good day!
Welcome ❤️
Happened to me yesterday my face hit the concrete a lady called the ambulance(I’m grateful for it) and now I have a concussion
It's the best video on syncope . It explains all my problems. I am really thankful to the doctor .
Scariest thing that's ever happened too me
Ya the same happened for me too, that is when I studied in grade 7. But no one knows it. I myself helped me in that situation.
And you even being a wookie and all! I used to be the same way but I hope this isometric exercise will help - with the syncope, not being a wookie.
@@gunav799 same thing happened to me yesterday worst part was it was like in front of the labatory and i had like doctors on my ass
If I spend too much energy focusing on the idea of an injury happening to someone, I get lightheaded and sick
SAME
im in high school rn, and when my history teacher starting talking abt torture methods or whatnot I started feeling lightheaded, panicked, froze up, my hearing turned to just ringing , I couldn’t see, and then I collapsed and busted my face on the floor.
Hi Joseph, thanks for sharing your experience. Hope you are feeling better now. Have a good day!
I’m going to have backup just in case I pass out
@@hal7741 Just wear glasses. I wore glasses for nine years from when I was three until I was twelve. Glasses are also very fashionable.
YES. the anxiety you get afterwards is so horrible. It makes my entire body shake
Happened to me in the library yesterday. Felt like i was dying & my knees went limp & vision black. It was embarrassing and awful
I have experienced that often even if I stand for too long it is very torturous, very unpleasant
Omg it’s so mortifying, right? I have had to lie down at the post office before 😂🙈
For some reason I've gone 21 years of my life without this happening, but just recently it happened during a blood draw and hasn't stopped during triggering situations since. So frustrating.
I’m 21 too and passed out from getting my covid vaccine. It is very frustrating and embarrassing when it happens in public.
Im 21 and this happend to me today during a blood drawn... 😂
I used to donate blood often in college. Had a painful, upsetting blood donor experience and have been vasovagal ever since, for decades.
But these tips I'll try for next time
Super helpful. Thank you. I've suffered from this condition for years.
This is the best description of how to do a counter-pressure maneuver I have heard yet! Thank you!
My mother & brother were both challenged with this condition. Thanks for this very helpful information.
Useful tip on clenching muscles in legs/ gluts and avoiding the triggers thank you.

Isometric Counter Pressure Exercise - thank you for sharing this effective maneuver!
This happened to me in a bar. So embarrassing. Everyone thought I was plastered.
this exact same thing happened to me as well.
Same
I experienced this for the first time, I was driving- everything was becoming blurry and it felt like I wasn't going to be able to stay awake, I pulled over to the side of the road as quickly as possible to park the car (afraid that if I hadn't, I would have lost control of the vehicle) I was extremely fortunate I used whatever consciousness I had left to be able to pull over; my sister was in the car and told me that after I pulled over- I became unconscious for about 10 minutes, convulsing and gasping for air or snoring as if I were asleep- I was unconscious and have zero memory of the 10 minutes I was gone- apparently my eyes were wide open the entire time and my sister tried to shake my body to wake up- but like I said I have zero memory of this.
So terrifying! That happened to me before and I was lucky to be able to pull over. Glad you’re ok
Watching this cuz I’m watching braveheart with a buddy of mine tomorrow and don’t want to get sick and pass out. Thanks for the video
Did you loose you’re vision and you’re hearing goes static by any chance?
I have no idea why this hapoens to me. I'm not scared of needles or blood but every time i have my bloods taken i nearly faint
This is so helpful.. Thank you so much. This could be so serious 🥺
i had my blood drawn a week ago and after that happened i immediately felt like i was going to faint. i didn't faint but i threw up. right after i threw up i felt much better. it was so weird that never happened before and i hadn't thrown up in 7 or 8 years
I had the same thing happen getting the covid vaccine!
Getting blood drawn, I always never look and tell them to give me a cold rag and a cold cup of water.
Really great information. It helped a ton of people for sure
I passed out on my first too. I have my 2nd tomorrow. I'll be asking to lie down to get it.
@@happynewmom I passed out and started shaking while I was out so it looked like a seizure in the middle of a Walmart after the covid shot, super embarrassing. I never had a problem with needles before but i think I developed a ptsd from it bevause now I pass out in any anxious situation

Haaah.. i am not alone. 😝😝
Thank you. My struggle with these attacks are so frustrating
@@wilfbm9067 Will do, thanks so much for the insight!
@@mymfmelody that's scary this happened when they tried to put an iv in like 3 days ago.
Weirdest part is I have bled alot with wounds before but I have this during blood draws smh
I wasn't like this til i was 19, it only happened twice, first when i had my nails done and the manicurist cut my finger, second was when i accidentally cut my own finger with a knife and for me its the worst thing, i dont want this especially when i like to be alone ad no one is around to help me.
So thank you for this
Thank you for sharing your experience, Aihg. Have a good day!
It happens to me when driving. It started a few weeks ago when after I dozed off while on the freeway. Instantly after waking up, I started to black out. Luckily, I was able to pull over. I thought I was having a stroke, so I called 911.
The most terrifying place to pass out
this happened to me when going to the bathroom I was straining lol but I never passed out but very close to it.
I faint when I see or have conversations about blood and stuff so when I've tried this in the past the thought of what goes on in stopping me fainting makes me feels ill again
This sounds like my case!
Sal Vulcano
Anxiety sucks. When I start having a panic attack I get super light headed. Never passed out but it feels like I could.
I'm no doctor, but I can suggest getting more sleep and drink more water.
I go through the exact same thing. It’s happened to me twice this year. Both after traumatic events that trigger my anxiety. I’ve seen 4 doctors after these episodes and they all say that I’m perfectly healthy. I understand how you feel and you’re not alone. We will overcome this.
Thank you doc, very informative. I will try that clenching technique.

This happened to me also when exercising. I was told to drink plennty of water and not to over-exert myself.
That happened to me too once at the gym
I've struggled with this my entire life sucks
This always happens whenever I get my blood drawn or I’m getting an IV put in me. My heart rate always drops, then I start feeling faint and nauseous like I’m going to throw up, and then my vision starts going dark. Usually I don’t completely pass out but I get pretty close. It’s honestly one of the worst feelings ever. It makes me feel like I’m about to die. Needles are the only thing that triggers it for me
Same
It's horrible feeling how to control it can you plz tell me🥴
I got eating and drinking syncope.
It can happen to all of us, you just move on forward with your life and make that experience make you stornger. xx
You may have epilepsy, did you bite the side of your tongue?
This happened to me yesterday. I still ask myself how come
Hi, one thing you can try is to keep a cup of electrolytes near the toilet. The one I use is Emergen-C Vitamin Drink Mix. This saved me a couple times. Take care.
