    You hit the nail on the head. First surgery was in the IR suite for a uterine fibroid embolization. He said “you’re going to feel a slight pinch” and I was watching it. It was unusually warm in the operating room and I had the lead vest on. I was so close to having to sit down but I pumped my calf muscles, thighs, and glutes. Saved my life from embarrassment.
    Edit: I hate needles and giving blood. He said my trigger words and I was watching.

    I am in school for surgical tech. I viewed a thoracotomy at work and was allowed to hold the patient’s heart, I had no weird reaction. Then I saw someone with an arterial bleed and I felt like I would faint. I am absolutely terrified of passing out in the OR.

    I had observed many surgeries, even major ones, with no reaction at all. Then I did my first suture on an awake patient in the ER and fainted after two stitches. I don't know how something like that can happen...😅

    I had my first near vasovagal episode while assisting with a grade 4 lip lac repair on a 4 y.o. She was given ketamine and I was standing at her head holding suction while the ED MD repaired the lac. My POV of the pt was upside down, overhead with her eyes rolling around in their sockets and the unrepaired lac undulating with every breath. I had to step out. The last two times were during clinicals for NP school. Once for a cyst removal where the sac was incredibly stuck, and I had to do a lot of blunt dissection, and the other was a large nevus on the tip of the nose that we punch bx'd and then scraped out. If I have to see the pt's face and they can talk to me, I will have a vasovagal response. I had no issue with any surgery that the face is draped off.

    In third year i did ortho all summer, no problem, first operation in the next year i fainted 😂. Other than feeling hot i experienced tinnitus that lasted more than usual so that's an important symptom as well.

    Hi Dr. Buck, what videogames do you recommend to improve hand-eye coordination if you want to pursue a career in surgery? Thanks

      Any. But first person fast shooters like apex and call of duty are sooooo hard they will improve u very quick. There are also some “shooter trainers” that u can use for very cheap or free.

    Hi Dr. Parker, I am a 79 year-old retired Veterinarian recently diagnosed with Paraesophageal hernia with Cameron lesions and anemia. I have lots of belching, and during some of these belching episodes, I will feel light-headed briefly, followed by a burp. Could this be a Vasovagal response caused by the gas bubble where the stomach is close to the heart and intimately associated with the Vagus nerve? This has happened for years and none of my physicians could explain it. I am consulting with a surgeon about the advisability of surgery on my hernia. My GERD disappeared about 5 years ago, so I think I've had the Paraesophageal hernia for awhile.

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes i suppose it could be a vagus nerve activation, although I have not seen that in any of my patients it could make sense. Sorry i don't have a great answer for you. I do think it's a good idea to get your hernia fixed if possible. Hope you feel better!

    Hey doctor. I watched your video on how to diagnose appendicitis. Have you come across anyone with back pain? With the appendix sometimes hiding behind i thought thats logical.
    Im not a doctor just a patient but ive been struggling for four years and im desperate for answers. Id appreciate any answer even if a no. Thank you for your time.
    I am seeing a 3rd doctor but im not going back until the 20th

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes patients can have some back pain however most of the time appendicitis is very painful within 1-5 days until it bursts and u get very sick. Some do believe there can be chronic appendicitis that is low grade pain lasting for years but this is still a debate on whether it actually exists. Sometimes removing the appendix is sort of one of the last “tests” we do to see if that is the problem.

    Hey, this is a weird question but how do people afford medical school. I work hard and maintain good grades and hold three jobs but still wound up 3000$ off. I'm just about to enter college and am already struggling 😔how did you manage? how did you pay for it and still have time to study?

    • @467076
      @467076 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re not able to work in medical school. You have to much going on. Most people get school loans, so you end up in debt. Some people end up 1 million in debt to become a doctor.

    You took a nondoctor into the OR, did you even explain and ask the patient first. Wow, to be nice, that’s not cool. And definitely not professional.

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@paulsdrc you assume a lot. The non-doctor, and the patient were friends. The patient dared the non-doctor to watch. And it was a small office procedure. People are so quick to judge and be defensive these days. Very interesting you are so comfortable being rude to someone who sacrificed much of his life for others! Have a great day! Or don’t…idgaf! lol
