I hear that Krita actually began as a fork of GIMP before the design team asked themselves what (conceptually) they wanted to do with it & went all-in on the drawing and painting tools.
None is better. Krita is for drawing/painting and Gimp is a full featured graphics editor. Both can be used for drawing though, but Krita seem to have advanced brushes to simulate real painting tools of all sorts and as I can see on many artworks people are taking advantage of this making the artworks look original. If someone creates all sorts of digital art it's nice to have few different programs that will serve certain purpose. For pixel art theres another program called GrafX2 which resembles Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. Free software for graphics creators, musicians and writers is pretty amazing now.

They all work on Windows, Mac and Linux, laptops and desktops and anything that plugs into those. Gimp is not like Photoshop at all. A completely different philosophy of photo manipulation. Did you use Gimp at all before making the video. While Krita is very similar to photoshop and you can easily switch from Krita to photoshop and vice versa, while from photoshop to gimp is very difficult, the learning curve is very different.
Krita is supposedly focused on digital painting but you can't rotate brushes with hotkeys. Also the toggle eraser mode system is pretty stupid. These problems are not there in Gimp. If you are not using any of the weirder brushes in Krita, Gimp might just be better.
Hi! Would you care to take a closer look at the Affinity programs, and do some content on that? Also you got a little mistake in your thumbnail. Says Krita under both logos, instead of GIMP under the right one ;)
I would say precisely the opposite - especially GIMP interface is catastrophic. Although I would agree Adobe interface inherited from Mac world is a bit misleading, too. After abandoning "many windows" interface GIMP is a bit better but still much worse than any reasonable alternative. For Windows users, Corel is closest to cleanest interface and to what they are used to. That's why I left Inkscape after a years of trying to stick only to it and returned to DRAW! - the work is much faster. The same applies to Photo Paint and Painter. Interface of PaintShop Pro is a bit "popular" but still OK. Apart of that, what these open source alternatives are usually missing is strictly defined, well designed, clean architecture. Plugins instaled anywhere and hard to find when you are trying to uninstall/reinstall them, features are added not based on user requests but on individual likings of developers, many missing for years. Well, that can be also a problem with commercial software, but to get sales, they must hear what users want a bit more.
Just tried both to substitute Photoshop, but I didn´t like them...Gimp is easier to work than Krita my opinion, maybe I should try once more and learn something else.
The minimun requirement would be 4GB for Krita, although, when i checked on the task manager, it consumes 150Mb of RAM, so trying it on a weaker hardware would help us confirm, although, this can increase depending on how big the drawing is and how much stuff you add into it.
