  • These tips help make my painting process a lot faster and streamlined. I've learned them through years of digital painting so I hope they help you speed up your painting process too!
Also this is my first tutorial type video! I would love to hear what you think of it and what else you would like to hear about!

I'm pleasantly surprised by how similar it looks to Photoshop. Nearly all of these are options I use regularly right now. Only the clipping layers (locking alphas) looks a bit more tedious here, but I think I could live with that. Once my Photoshop discount runs out, I think I'll be using Krita.

    • @Noctualis
      @Noctualis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +48

I believe there are also ways to do clipping layers in a similar way to how photoshop does it in Krita. I just find that this way runs a bit faster so that's what I shared! It may seem a little tedious in the video, but once you get used to it, it doesn't feel too bad :)

Another way to avoid the sketch layer from interfering with the R shortcut is to lock it. Then you can still see the sketch, but it will not be selected.

I've been using krita for close to 2 years so I've learnt most this stuff over time and trail and error, but that shift + backspace will save me hours of work down the road as I work with selections a lot. thanks a ton :D

@@Noctualis You can change the behaviour of the fill tool in the tool option docker. You can tell it to disregard all other layers and only sample current layer or you can also tell it to sample layers with specific colour labels.

I've been using krita forever now but I'm still finding new shortcuts, the R shortcut and color picking one will likely be my new fave cause I always have a buttload of layers and its so difficult to grab colors I've got to undo filters and everything this is awesome!
also found some new brushes to try so yeehaw

Regarding to transform tool or crop tool , you dont really need to press Enter button to make the changes i usually press B to get back to my brush and krita still makes these changes. I find it faster.

About color picking, I've always used Alt key on the specified layer to show only that layer on the canvas, then picked from it the color I needed. So the Ctrl + Alt proves to be an excellent alternative!
By the way, you can also use the Alt key I mentioned above on the groups. I personally find it very helpful when I work on lights and shadows in the piece with rough contours. I click on the Colors group to hide all outlines and see how my image presents without it.
Ah, I just remembered, in the Transform tool if you use Alt key, you can stretch both sides simultaneously, or in other words: keep the center in the same place (can be used with Shift to resize whole piece without moving its center).
Anyhow, great video and cute cat! Thanks a lot!

This is a very helpful, useful video! Adding a comment and a like in the hope it will help push this video up in Krita search results. Some other tips that might help save a beginner digital artist some headaches off the top of my head:
    - Before even starting digital painting I'd recommend having a solid knowledge on how to draw first or else you'll be making things harder for yourself by trying to learn all those fundamental skills on top of trying to figure out your painting program and how it works. Sure it's doable but it's an added layer of difficulty
-Mirror your canvas often! You'd be surprised just how easy it is to paint on an unintentional angle, I couldn't believe my own eyes on how tilted and bad my proportions could be because it all looked fine at the time. It might seem trivial but is really powerful and easy to use, so use it!
-The Tool Options docker is Krita's hidden, secret weapon. There are a ton of options there to be explored and can really change how various tools behave.
Oh, and just a little context for the 5 key resetting your canvas rotation, 4 will rotate left and 6 will rotate right by 15 degrees I believe. So in that context 5 makes sense. Hope this helps somebody and again, great video!
