Which tune would you recommend for a lifted GMC running 35" tires?
Hey i bought this. If I have 22×14 on 35s on my 5.3l is it okay too drive in towing mode daily if I tow side by side every weekend, if so is it a must too run 93 fuel ?
I have tried all tunes with the F5. I have a 2011 Yukon XL 4WD with 5.3 and 3.08 gears and a K&N cold air intake. I disabled AFM/DoD with this tuner, and leave it off. I also have a travel trailer I tow weighing 5500 lbs. I have monitored my STFT, LTFT, and timing with a data reader. Looking at fuel trims I can see how the tunes give a richer mixture than stock and timing advances more than stock. Basically a modern day version of re-jetting the carb and twisting the distributor. Overall I love this tuner. Yes, you can use the GM/Chevy built-in tow mode with the vehicle tuned. The OEM tow mode overrides the tuner shift points and makes the trans delay upshifts and holds lower gears when descending. Remember, your vehicle was tuned from the factory to pass government economy tests and for what GM thinks it's core buyers want, and is far from optimal in my opinion. I run 87 Octane tune a lot of the time, use 87 unleaded, and switch to super unleaded for towing. Lately I've been using Mileage XS. Don't use E85 with this tuner. The Superchips rep told me the 2007-2014 model Flashpaq wasn't designed for using E85. Only the 2015 and newer GM's can tune and use E85. The F5 GM tuner didn't have as many options as the F4/F5 Dodge Ram tuner had.
Common to all tunes: throttle is quick and snappy, transmission firms up and isn't mushy in shifting, raised speed limiter, trans torque management changed, shift points changed
Performance: Definitely more power on the low-mid end, runs great, runs strong across all RPM ranges, gas mileage drops, must use 91/92/93 octane fuel only
87 Octane: The manual says this is to run 87 octane no matter what octane the engine calls for, but when I talked to the tech at Superchips they said for the GM products this is actually more like 87 Performance from the manual. This tune feels better in the mid range, and stronger at the top end, runs great, fuel mileage about same on highway and little better in the city, I tow with 87 Octane tune (the manual says you can if you use this tune for towing if you use super unleaded)
Towing: Sucks for towing anything. Lost power at both ends. Lots of high RPM running to keep speeds up. Could barely make it up a hill. The timing is retarded a lot. Maybe if you were towing 8000 pounds or more it might be helpful.
MileageXS: Feels about the same as stock with a snappy throttle. I netted only about a 2 mpg gain. Power really didn't feel much different than stock. If you drove a lot and long distances that little jump in MPG will help. This tune is for highway drivers cruising long distance I'm guessing. I use this tune most of the time. Superchips told me they actually got small gains with this tune and improved mileage.
Stock with options is just stock fuel/timing curves with options like speed limiter, gears, AFM disable, and transmission shifting qualities
Great info Russell!! I just purchased the flashcal for my '09 Silverado 5.3 so I can disable AFM. I'm debating upgrading it to the flashpaq so I can get the tuning but concerned if it's even worth it ($169 upgrade). Any input on that?

I have a 2013 avalanche. I pull travel trailers and boat. I love the tow option, kept all shifts in the meat of the torque range. I honestly felt like it had a 100 more horsepower. I used performance and took off speed limiter and the AFM. I hit 120 pretty damn quick. I wanted to add stage one cams and long tube headers but I’m thinking I don’t have to now. My only modification is k&n stock box air filter. This is a must guys. Don’t need the stock option. I love V8 all the time and now I won’t get left in the dust once I hit 100! Buy guys, this is worth it!!
What did you set your shift points at

I didn’t have to set any shift points. There is an option that you can but I chose tow mode. It modified my tow option on the gearshift as well. I have engine breaking in my Avalanche so even when I’m not towing I push my tow button, that turn in the engine breaking. I love the instant acceleration that you get as well while you have tow button on. This is a good buy. I bought a refurbished one off eBay 199.00
Is it possible to tune multiple vehicles with just the one tuner? I have a Sierra and a Silverado and am curious if I can tune both with the one tuner?

My factory radio went out,replaced it and no longer have my chime/bell any way to fix it??
JR Dee depends on a couple things, was it a bose and do you have onstar etc. go to crutchfield, theyll get u what you need depending on al the factors in play.

@@TheEightSeven1 The aftermarket part to create the chime should have came with the replacement radio harness. The chime is created by the stock radio and played through speakers

It shouldn't. I hate the GM mushy shift. I have this tuner and it firms up the shifts on any tune.

I have 2011 Yukon XL with 5.3 and 3.08 gears. The XS Mileage setting gave me about 1 mpg more city and about 2 mpg more on the highway. So not much different. In XS Mileage mode everything feels stock but the throttle is much snappier.
Does this take off exhaust codes ? I did a muffler delete and I’m AFM
You can disable AFM with this but I'm going to recommend an actual tune from a tuner
Is there an 87 fuel economy and performance tune?
Yep. 87 Octane which is the 87 performance and a XS Mileage tune. The 87 Octane tune makes the truck feel like you have tow mode on and the XS mileage didn't save much more than 1-2 mpg. Any tune makes the transmission less mushy and the throttle more snappy.
I was running some math, and it is true that the mpg gain is quite minimal at about 2mpg. However, if hypothetically you commute say 50 miles each day for 7 days, that 350 miles a week. Divided by your current 15mpg, thats like 23 gallons of gas. And at 3.25 (in my area thats the price for 87 chevron) then that equates to 75$ a week.
Now if u had a 2mpg gain, and still drove 350 miles a week. Now at 17mpg, youd be using a little over 20 gallons(20.5) and at the same price of 3.25, youd spend 67 dollars.
In a month youd save around 40 bucks and in a year its 480 dollars. The tuner is around 350 so i think its worth it as the savings pay it off ovee the first year.

Most chips you'll want to use the fuel your tune is set on. Hyper tech even says using the wrong fuel can damage your engine.

This specific tuner is only programmed for the 2007-2013 Silverado 1500s. I'd recommend getting in touch with Superchips to see if they have anything for your specific application. -Zach

It does everything GM. All modes, Advanced through E85, which it wouldn’t do, especially with the AFM on. I would shut it off because that low of octane was never meant for engines, especially for ones that tow.
Superchips told me not to run E85 with the 2007-2014 tuner. The fuel curves are not designed to account for it. The 2015 and newer GM's can use E85 with the Flashpaq.
If I turn off the active fuel management of my 2012 silverado can I still add e85 and normal gas or no ?
Yes, just keeps it in v8 mode like when you're accelerating.

If your vehicle doesn't have the compression to run mid to high octane you can lose power regardless of tune.

What a crock of crap!! How much is SuperChips paying you? I've tried multiple vehicles and different tune's, no way are you getting anything close to what you say you achieved. There is no way you got 49hp at the wheel from this, best thing these programmers can do is disable AFM or DOD whatever you want to call it, and tire size or transmission shift points/pressure. You will notice a difference in driving, but its only because it remaps the timing and fuel trims. It will feel more peppy but will have a negative effect on your gas mileage vs stock. If you live somewhere FLAT then sure you probably would notice a difference but if you drive on hilly terrain, then no, it will probably be the same or worse than stock. This is just my opinion based on using these on multiple vehicles. If you want to really make a difference get a HP Tuners programmer and let one of them make you a custom tune or do it yourself if you have the knowledge.
I just picked up one for the amount of money I paid I'm really not to impressed it does delete the afm witch is nice and changed my shift points but honestly feels like 2-5 how gain what tuner would you recommen for this year truck ? I've looked into black bear but a little pricey.
It adds up to 5 hp from stock. Woks better with performance upgrades such as cold air intake and exhaust.
And the curve gain is 49 hp
I too was disappointed at first. The Dodge Ram tuner made that truck a bad ass. This one seems to make my GM run better and shift better, and any gains are in the mid range. I watched the timing and fuel trims and it indeed re-maps them. This is a modern day version of re-jetting the carb and twisting the distributor.
It's the gains in low end HP and Torque is where this programmer excels. Peak HP and TQ are minimal. I believe that to be true with any chip tune. It's not magic after all. What did you expect?

They say not to but some people do,and they don't have any problems.. I guess use it at your own risk..lol
